The plywood "catch" came down yesterday, something that had been thre seemingly forever to protect peds from a possibly falling facade/cornice.

Revealed some detail that couldnt really be seen for a while.

Anyone have a picture of the tree?

Anyone have a picture of the tree?

Not a very good one. This is from the tree's Twitter account https://twitter.com/TrumanTree

BTW, I'm glad to see visible signs of progress -- in addition to the tree coming down.

Those restaurant signs were gone when I saw the building the other day

Nice job! Now if the owners of the John Hartness Brown buildings across the street could just their project moving, or the Cleveland Athletic Club get theirs going, that will be a kick-ass section of Euclid.

Amen. I'm tired of walking by those buildings in their current state. The left-most one has recently become a urinal for drifters judging by the smell coming from the doorway. I can't wait to see that whole stretch of Euclid come alive again.

I walked past the Truman building yesterday and they had the doors open while they were working. Looks like a really nice space inside!

Why is this thread in the completed projects

Hardly completed, this was the exterior on monday

Btw this building has been renamed the "Ivory on Euclid." On the GWay Walk & Dine i met the guy from CRM  who said he was the one who came up w the new name. I told hime he'd have hell to pay on UrbanOhio for that one. lol

Yes, someone has been a little too quick on the draw recently with moving threads about projects still underway into the completed section.

Finally this thread is back where it belongs.

Tours available starting Sept 30 including a demo suite.  I plan on checking it out soon, maybe I'll even take some pictures!

If possible, take some exterior pictures as we haven't had any of those in a while.

this is from this past Monday.

the only apparent difference is the skeletal system for the cornice (scrubbed/rustoleumed ?)

I recently tried looking for available units at the Ivory on Euclid. However, the building has been completely pre-leased and will open for move-in on May 1.

Actually there are already people living there.  There's a back entrance that residents can use.  Not sure how that has worked out (or if it is legal) but no harm no foul I suppose.

From right is the old Cleveland Trust Rotunda (home of Heinen's), the Swetland Building (Azure up top, apartments over offices over more of Heinen's on the first floor) and then the Truman Building (home of Geiger's and more)....

The Ivory (ex-Truman Bldg) on Euclid Ave. @DowntownCLE was so neglected it had a tree growing from its roof.

Didn't the tree have its own Twitter account too?

If it was up to me and it was practical, I'd find it a transplant spot nearby, with a plaque.  "This is what we had to bring this building back from...."

Don't put it on Euclid. The tree mortality rate on Euclid is through the roof.

Was that an intended play on words?

With the opening of Geiger's is this project nearing completion or are there some apartments that are not yet completed? http://www.cleveland19.com/story/30310572/geigers-will-open-new-store-on-euclid-in-old-ivory-building

"No one is going to afford this, especially not the crowd you see downtown Cleveland because downtown Cleveland is a bunch of extremely homeless people or extremely rich," said another downtown resident.

How is one "extremely homeless" as opposed to moderately or lightly homeless?

^ Good question. And I live downtown, but I am neither homeless, nor even close to being rich.

Usually I like to use the term "misinformed", but I think your terminology is accurate in this instance.

Hmm, and there are already two in greater Cleveland, so I think the would understand the market well enough to make an informed decision.

The market for downtown retail is not limited to downtown.

The market for downtown retail is not limited to downtown.

Right, just like all of the restaurants are only frequented by people that live there.

^I don't know if that is such a good analogy.  Restaurants are frequented often during a "night on the town" and many downtown restaurants and their ambience/experience simply can't be duplicated in many suburban areas.  It's difficult to say the same about retail, especially when talking about retail which will draw in the people that don't live downtown.  Certainly, downtown retail is not limited to downtown residents, but it is much moreso than downtown entertainment IMHO.

I'll agree with that to a degree, but It also depends on the store and restaurant.  If Zara opened downtown, the entire market area would go versus if target or Home Depot opened, just downtown residents would go.  Same could be said that suburban residents go to Greenhouse Tavern.  However, in the case of Chipoltle, only downtown residents and office employees go.  It's all about what's a destination store, and what's a market satisfaction store.  In Cleveland, generally speaking, destination stores reach for the suburbs first, and unfortunately it is perceived that our market can only handle one of them.

All that said, my next prediction for downtown retail would be a Second Sole in the general location of Heinens and Geigers.  I think it would be a good addition.
