The bomb site, just outside Christy's bar (site of today's Quarter brand-new apartment complex) was dotted with bits of Shondor's flesh, including some hanging from trees along Detroit Avenue. My dad worked at Realty One with a woman who was Shondor's wife at the time of Shondor's death. She was well aware of how he made his living, as did most of Cleveland. He was a famous gangster around Northeast Ohio whose reputation extended back to his bootlegging days during Prohibition. The story I heard is she was so sheltered from the business end she had no clue it was Danny Greene that killed him, and gave him his dog because she knew he loved them.

They got married soon after she provided his alibi from a murder. No one in this town ever frustrated zealous prosecutors more than Shondor. Nationally, maybe only Joey and Nick Bosa's great grandpa did so more.

It was also where I first met the former singer of Death of Samantha and Cobra Verde and current PD writer, John Petkovic. In fact, I was there just shy of a month when he convinced the GM to let DoS play a gig there. He was let go shortly after that infamous gig. The place was trashed.

July 31, 20186 yr It would be fascinating, but also I think a touch depressing. The smoke and industrial smells would have been choking, the river horribly polluted with visible oil slicks, and any patch of ground not paved would be churned to mud.

I get it, but I think just to see the labor on the docks, the taverns on the water, the gas-lit cobblestone streets, the industry. I'd be fascinated.
