Can anyone identify where this 1916 photo of the Cleveland Indians playing around in a tree was taken? I've compared streetviews with dozens of churches and can't figure out where this was taken. Pretty sure it was in a neighborhood, but the notes on the back of the photo provide no help...

The Cleveland Catholic Diocese may be able to help or steer you to a historian, there's people around who could identify any old church at a glance.

I have been working with the Historic New Orleans collection to try to place exactly where in the city the photo was taken.  Unfortunately a hurricane stronger than Katrina passed through in 1915 and significantly impacted the city.  If the church survived, it may have rebuilt the front.

Sorry, but late-1980s isn't "vintage"....

As much as I hate to admit it, yes...it is.  Ten years is passe, twenty is "retro", thirty plus is "vintage".

We did use the word to describe the 50s during the 80s.

In this case, the character of the town has changed, in some cases dramatically.  Not like east side burbs, but it has.

Italians were viewed with great suspicion and fear 100 years ago when Big Italy was at its peak. Many established Americans, including the police, saw Italians as criminals in the Black Hand or in the anarchist movement. Sadly similar to Muslims today. So many Italians didn't advertise their heritage.

To say that the past treatment of Italians(or Irish or fill in the blank group) is comparable to today's treatment of Muslims is misplaced.

Photo 10 of 15 makes E22nd look pretty dense. Am I missing something or was there some serious demo? Or is that an older St. Vincent Hospital that was actually built up to the street. Not to mention old St. Joseph's along Woodland in the background.

Amazing...  I think I'm looking at this right but is that 668 on the far right?  If so it looks very different than what they restored it do today.

That's the Hippodrome Building and theater. 668 is immediately west of The Hipp. You can the awning for 668 in the photo from 1968 (the year the movie "Candy" was released)....

Love the 1872/2016 painting, though perhaps the modern buildings should have looked more spectral.  Easier to say than do, I know.....

I hadn't seen most of these pictures before. There are some awesome shots in here:

Have to wonder when these houses were built. They look early 19th century. And Lakeside Avenue was a dirt road at the dawn of the 20th century!

And of course, my favorite...
