^that picture from Geauga Lake reminded me of the coasters at Euclid Beach, two of which are recreated in these videos, the Thriller and the Racing Coaster (apparently originally called the Derby Racer). The sight of these from Lakeshore Blvd was always amazing (I know, hardly anyone here is old enough to remember them lol)

I thought the Bond store at Ninth and Euclid was ugly as a kid, but now that I am more mature and sophisticated, I wish it could have been saved somehow.  Cleveland does not have a lot of examples of commercial mid century modern architecture.

Going to take some liberties with what constitutes "historic" - at the very least these qualify as 'back in the day' 😁 I also realized this week is when I renew my hosting/site on Squarespace - can't believe ClevelandSkyscrapers.com is 25 years old.

I love these old, remastered videos but never saw one of Cleveland until now! Couple things that stood out for me was the amount of traffic nearing the cities peak in population but didnt expect it to be so rundown. If this was 1940 the great depression was still going which obviously would be some of the reason for the dilapidated look correct? I always heard we didn't get out of that until WWII. This may have already been shared but if not, I know everyone in UO would love seeing this one! Seeing the shanty town by the flats brought the torso killer to mind... Not a picture exactly! They call them motion pictures! edit. I forgot the proper way to send a video on here.

Cleveland 1940s in color, Downtown [60fps, Remastered] w/sound design added

This was also posted in another thread on here tonight. Can’t put my finger on anything exactly, but the film feels to me more like mid to late 30s, which would place it right in the Great Depression.

To be fair, I was referring to only the Tremont area at the beginning of the video.

Did the video start from the beginning? Every time I hit the link it directs me to the middle of the video. It may just be youtube thinking that's where I personally left off and would like to return to continue watching but if not, Mods, just delete it. I just wanted to be the first to give knowledge of the video's existence on here, but nothing gets by anyone in here for as long as 7 hours.😄 7 hours was how old video was when it showed up in my recommended feed and viewed it.

This video is incredible. I'm amazed by the clarity of the video restoration. I think I figured out the vantage points:

W7th at Starkweather

East end of Detroit Superior Bridge heading east

Heading south on E140th and Coit Road/Euclid Avenue

Looking west on Coit Road near E140th, Fisher Body Plant

View of Steel Mills and Sohio from W4th & Scotham, scanning north to south

Maybe Woodland & E55th?

I'm fairly confident that at around the 4:36 mark we are heading east on Carnegie. In that portion of the clip, off to the left you can see the back of the building that still stands at Prospect and E 46th, and eventually on the right you can see the terra cotta building that still stands at Carnegie and E. 46th, and I believe that is Warner-Swasey hulking in the background.

Yes, we had it. I think I still do. Not exactly the easiest book to fit on one's shelf, however. It was oversized.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure where the car is within three lanes of traffic heading one way against one lane of traffic heading the other is probably Carnegie -- likely east of the railroad overpass since it cannot be seen in the distance.

It's a wonderful video but Cleveland was extremely dirty. Even in the sunny shots, the ground-level haze was hard to ignore. I vaguely remember the foggy haze of pollution from the 1970s was Cleveland industry was fading fast.

There are multiple AI videos that extrapolate old postcards and add simulations to give viewers an approximation of the neighborhood. The sound is probably non-AI.

I wish I knew how to feed postcards into AI machines and do the same for Cleveland. Grainy black and white footage only goes so far.

I love the cars driving around in the 1750 version of Manhattan 😅

😄 AI is good at some stuff but its pretty bad at trying to generate the past because it's fed so much current day data.
