Posted November 9, 200915 yr Hello, I'm a CWRU student doing a project on media portrayls of Cleveland. Right now, I'm trying to compile a list of all portrayls of the city that have been either made by outsiders or presented to them. So in other words, if a documentary that was made on say downtown but only watched by locals, I won't include it. So far, I've read through the board's list of movies which was very helpful! I was wondering if you all know of major features on the city done by newspapers or magazines (I think I have all of the ones from the last two years)? Also, do you know of any video games that take place in Cleveland beyond sports games or flight simulator?
November 9, 200915 yr You should be able to see links to most articles written about Cleveland on the various threads here. Lots of travel ones lately, and of course "rust belt" stories Video games? Don't know.

November 10, 200915 yr mokbubble...very good padawan However I cannot believe you forgot one of the most iconic and ironic bands and cover art to come out of Cleveland. I'm not a MSB lover, but this poster, speaks to me and is one of my favorites pieces of artwork!
November 10, 200915 yr The Curse of Rocky Colavito: A Loving Look at a 33-Year Slump - book by Terry Pluto (two sequels were printed as well).
November 10, 200915 yr Wow I didn't know about that poster. On a more enfuriating note, I also forgot to add the Fiji "because it's not bottled in Cleveland ad" either. Does anyone have a link for that?
November 10, 200915 yr Honestly I have a ton of these from the last 2 years - I actually have a site I was working on that compiled a bunch of these also. I could easily fill a few pages on here... I don't have much time right now but I will keep updating this post. Another question is how far back are you looking at for movies, music and articles? I see that you have some from about 10 years ago, so what is the limit if any? You should also really watch the 30 rock episode on Cleveland its kinda cool. Music 216 (Hey Hey) - 216 NEW VIDEO "HEY HEY" Pretty good if you like hiphop / rap Cleveland BY T.U.N Entertainment The Awakening - A Sports Time Ohio thing but was shown nationally KOLGATE- 216 TV 30 Rock episode called Cleveland - Hulu - 30 Rock: Cleveland Get Away Here is the 30 rock full Cleveland episode http://tvshack.net/tv/30_Rock/season_1/episode_20/ Movies "Proximity" 2001 Warner Bros. Pictures (Most of it was shot in Downtown Cleveland)
November 10, 200915 yr I'll include anything in the last 30 years really or before if it was really big, I only moved here two years ago so that's why it's more weighed towards recent things. I'm obviously not going to be able to review everything, so if nothing else I can make an enormous list of the material I didn't get to, and give it to the Western Reserve Historical Society.
November 10, 200915 yr I don't think Cleveland is mentioned in the Huey Lewis song. Alot of people think the chorus is "The heart of rock n roll is in Cleveland" but its really "The heart of rock n roll is still beatin'" And they mention a bunch of cities in the song, but I don't think Cleveland is one of them.

Listen to the record again. Cleveland, along with Detroit, are the last cities to be mentioned.
November 10, 200915 yr Yes they do mention Cleveland. At the end of one of the chorus lines he says "the heart of rock and roll is still beatin...in Cleveland." Then he says "Detroit!" It's towards the end of the song.
November 10, 200915 yr ^Sacralidge. It is most definitely included... in the last chorus. But the heart of rock and roll, the heart of rock and roll is still beatin... in cleveland. Detroit! Uh! Heart of rock and roll.
November 10, 200915 yr Us old time MTV video watchers (when MTV played videos) know what we speak! LOL
November 10, 200915 yr I made sure to include the whole "Still beatin'" controversy. Supposedly the lyric was supposed to be "Cleveland" but was then changed to still beatin. Fortunately theres the "In Clevealand" line so I can use it.
November 10, 200915 yr Gah. I thought Cleveland might have been in the cities, but then I looked it up on 3 different lyrics sites and none of them had the Cleveland-Detroit part in the last verse. Stupid lyrics sites. And I probably have like 5 viruses now from going there. On a related note, I did read this on a "misunderstood lyrics" site. Not sure if its really true or not: "Huey Lewis wrote this song after performing to a great crowd in Cleveland, and the original line actually was "the heart of rock & roll is in Cleveland." But his bandmates thought he was crazy to have that be part of the chorus, so he changed it."
