Posted November 12, 200915 yr Is there anyway to include giving rep out to people who gives good and exceptional posts?
November 12, 200915 yr I guess this is the thread to do it in! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
November 16, 200915 yr the airliners.net forum here http://www.airliners.net/aviation-forums/general_aviation/ has a feature like this, and it seems to work well. basically, instead of having stars or post count, you would also have a "Respect Rating" or something similar with a count. It is pretty helpful determining who actually knows what they are talking about.
November 16, 200915 yr The forums at woot.com also have a designation for "Quality Posts" listed under the forumer ID e.g., "KJP, Quality Posts: 34." I don't know how it works. It think it's at the sole discretion of the mods.
November 16, 200915 yr I think this is a great idea. Lots of forums have an option to "rate" a post and subject. Poster/forumer ratings are determined via those ratings.
November 16, 200915 yr Seems like a popularity contest. (In valley voice) Umm, like O M G! Helloooo, everyone, like already knows, that like, um, MayDay and I are the cool kids. Like OK?!
November 16, 200915 yr SMF has something similar built in but is called karma. Users are able to give a + or - and its tallied up.
November 16, 200915 yr I'm not a fan of these - I'd rather people stop and take the time to follow threads and come up with their own opinion. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram

I'd rather we all ignore, or pay attention to folks based on our own opinion of the quality of their posts. It isn't that hard to form an opinion of who we should ignore.

November 16, 200915 yr I also agree, thus it has never been activated in the four years or so we've used SMF.
November 16, 200915 yr not to mention, I would be exposed for the fraud that I am if we were rated by quality of posts.

November 16, 200915 yr We could just use this thread to call attention and give mad props to awesome posts.... Maybe rename it to "Incredibly Informative and Awesome Posts Thread"? Hehe.
November 16, 200915 yr I would also vote against having such a rating option. It has been shown on a lot of different forums that people start using it as a barometer of how often they agree with a poster's sentiment, rather than the quality of the information.
November 17, 200915 yr It's clear by the color of star who the important people are. Agreed! We should have a star for the holidays!
November 17, 200915 yr It's clear by the color of star who the important people are. Agreed! We should have a star for the holidays! Red spinning stars aren't festive enough for you? Perhaps we could get spinning christmas trees?
November 17, 200915 yr It's clear by the color of star who the important people are. Agreed! We should have a star for the holidays! Red spinning stars aren't festive enough for you? Perhaps we could get spinning christmas trees? Well you know Christmas is the second favorite gay holiday right behind all hallows eve. So some sparkling silvery thingies would be nice. ;)
