Hi,

I am looking to find a good dentist in Cleveland.  I currently live in Stonebridge and would appreciate any advice from anyone's experiences.

Thanks!

I like (and go to) Brad Knapp, who has an office in the Hanna Building in Playhouse Square. Number is 216-241-5745.

Schermer Haynes and Associates on Superior next to the Hyatt. Dr. Haddad at the practice is awesome.

510 Superior Ave E.

216-621-3675

Hrs 8:45-4 M-F and 9-12:30 on Sat

I don't have dental insurance, so I have to bargain shop.  I went to several the past 10 years, before finally settling down with Bradley Cohen - http://www.yellowpages.com/info-5892369/Cohen-Bradley-E-DDS?from=qpibp-mi

Very reasonably priced, can take you right away and does all the work himself, including making crowns in the office.  The downside is he does not use hygenists for cleaning, etc. and accepts emergency appointments so you may be waiting in the chair for quite awhile.  The distance for you (he is in South Euclid) may also be a problem.

If you don't have insurance (or if you do and it sucks), consider going to the dental clinic at Case's dental school. I went there for several years when I didn't have dental; they even did wisdom tooth removal for me at considerably less than any dentist.

I guess I should note that I am fortunate enough to have dental insurance.  All the comments are much appreciated and more are welcome!

I'd second the Brad Knapp recommendation. He's very efficient and is easy to schedule. He doesn't waste time. When

I get a cleaning, I'm out of the office in 20 minutes and back to work. He's not a talker, so there is no wasted chit chat.

I'd like to thank everyone for the Brad Knapp recommendation, even though this wasn't my post.  I am SO frustrated with my current dentist.  They require you to book 9-10 months in advance for a cleaning, and it's just not working for me.  By the time the date comes up, there's something work-related that often requires me to not be able to make the appointment, and you can't just cancel and get another appointment - if you cancel, that's another 10 month wait to be seen again, so they just put you on a "call list" and call you if there's a cancellation.  They've called me 3x for a cancellation but it's always like, oh, we have an appt in an hour, can you make it?  It takes me a f*cking hour just to get to my CAR during the day since I don't drive to work, let alone to drive out to N.O. to the dentist's office, so no, that doesn't work for me either.  And the receptionist there is a complete bitch and I am sick of her shit.  Sorry, thanks for listening to me rant.

I called Dr Knapp's office and they got me in NEXT WEEK and over my lunch hour, which is perfect.  My current dentist wouldn't release my X-rays to the new dentist until I paid my bill in full over the phone (I had a crown put on and was paying it off in monthly installments since it was so much $$).  CHRIST.  I told her I really liked the dentist but their scheduling procedure sucks and they are losing my business as well as others I have referred there (mr.rockandroller, my mom).  I'm sure they couldn't care less.

  • 1 year later...

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread, but I wanted to update this to say I'm no longer going to be going to Dr Knapp.

I've been to his office several times now. I had some misgivings after my very first visit, which was a cleaning. He uses one of those electronic cleaning machines instead of doing a manual cleaning. It really, really hurts my teeth/gums and seems a much more "violent" cleaning than doing it by hand. I mentioned to him about the pain/sensitivity but he basically said these do a better job with cleaning so it's better to just put up with it a couple of times a year and get through it. This to me seems bad. Dentist vists are bad enough without having pain and sensitivity during and afterwards every time you have a cleaning.  He also does not have an assistant or hygeinist. There has never been anyone else there in all my visits there besides his front office lady, who is very nice, but both she and the office look like you've gone into a time machine into the 50s and it's a little disconcerting.

I was having pain in a tooth last summer and he took an x-ray and said I needed a filling. Months later, the tooth was still hurting. I called to tell them about it and the front office woman talked to the dentist and he said sometimes fillings can hurt for a YEAR, and if it was still hurting by this summer, we would take another look at it.  I tried to be patient and just completely quit chewing on the affected side for months. I went in for a cleaning, this was about 9 months after the filling, and while I was there I said you know, this thing is still painful and it's not letting up, it just doesn't seem normal. He took another picture of it and said it looked like the root might be starting to die and that I needed a root canal. My very first.

The canal took 2 steps. The first step was handled the "old way" dentists do it, with hand-drilling out each of the 3 canals in the molar to remove the pulp. Then he put in antibiotics and a temporary filling and said come back in 2 weeks. I came back this past Friday. He filled up the canals with cement stuff, which I understand is normal, and then put a perm. filling in the tooth and said we were all done. No crown. I thought this was normal. The tooth was fine all weekend but last night it started having bad, throbbing pain, which could mean an infection, so he's called in an antibiotic for me. I started doing some research, and basically can't find any dentists that recommend doing a root canal without a crown, particularly in a molar, because it's going to be a very weakened tooth and will break, sooner rather than later because of chewing action, and the crown will protect it and extend the life of the tooth. I have no idea why he didn't do a crown, maybe he doesn't do them or something but the whole thing just seems whack to me. I am in terrible pain. I have to go on an antibiotic now (which he is calling in today) as there is probably an infection in the tooth.

To me, this is enough that I'm not going back again. I don't like the way this was handled. I think I probably needed a root canal from the beginning and the filling was a waste of my time and money, I was in pain for MONTHS for no reason, and the canal doesn't seem to have been done properly. When you combine it with the cleaning experiences, I'm just going to find someone else. I made an appt with another dentist, though they can't get me in until Monday.

I'm disappointed mostly because this guy has a very conveniently located office for me since he is downtown and I could get a lot of appointments done over my lunch hour, but it's not worth it to me to continue going at this point.

If you are looking for a good dentist downtown you should try and check out Dr. Rosenblitt. His office is on the 15th floor of the Leader Building. I go to him and I have nothing but good things to say about my experience. Everyone in his office is so friendly and he genuinely loves working downtown. I highly recommend him.

Thanks. I like the idea of having someone closer to where I live and they have evening hours twice a week as well, so we'll see how it goes there. If I don't like them, I'll check him out.

RnR, I would recommend Dr. Carrie Hansen.  Its who my Wife and I have been going to for the past couple years, and as my wife hates the dentist and likes her I would say its a good dentist.  I'm not sure what their hours are off the top of my head though, ph# (440) 887-0550.  They are located in MH at w130th and smith.

Rosenblitt is very nice, always seems to remember me even though I have been there 4 times, and they are super caring.. And have an AMAZING view of the mall.. which will be even sweeter with the CC/MM.

I recommend Dr. Haddad at Shermer Haynes and Associates which is located across the street from the main library on Superior. My wife and I both go to him and he does old fashioned cleaning. We both have nothing but good things to say about him. In addition to cleanings, I've had other work done with great results.

Thanks guys. Like I said, for now, I do have a new dentist lined up, hopefully they will be good.

+2!!!  My wife and I go to Dr. Rosenblitt and we have nothing but good things to say about him.  The office staff and hygienists are tremendous and Dr. Rosenblitt is as genuine and honest as they come.  Great view of the mall/lake from his chairs too.

^ I think you meant 'nothing but good things' ?

LOL.  Re: Rosenblitt, I'm sure he's nice and has a great view, but I need a really good dentist, with a lot of skill and preferably some more modern equipment. Does his office fit the bill? I might call and see if they could get me in today or tomorrow as I am in a lot of pain, and waiting til Monday to see the new dentist seems an eternity away.

I'm not sure about what kind of equipment he has but I know he has a painless dentistry philosophy. The procedure I had done was a little tricky (fixing my retainer which came loose) but he handled it well. I don't know if he could handle your problem but I know he doesn't mind talking to patients on the phone to figure out if he can help you or not. Good luck and I hope you feel better.

DOH... yes, nothing but good things.  Point is, Rosenblitt is great!

his office is very clean, and the equiment is as modern looking dentist equipment as i have seen which is probably due to the fact that he is relatively young for a dentist/doctor. at least he seems that way.

thx Scav. With Advil, I think I can make it til Monday so I'll give this new dentie a try.

I wasn't sure what the rules on promoting a business were on this forum, but my fiancee just started working as a dental hygienist for Dr. Rosenblitt in the Leader Building and we've been really trying to market the business to build up his and her customer base. I just wanted to let everyone know if they need an excellent young dentist who is committed to downtown Cleveland as well as a hygienist who lives downtown and loves Cleveland, then you should check out his office. Just let them know you heard about it through Brittany (my fiancee).
