Posted December 4, 200915 yr A few bad pics from around LA my hood Hollywood look toward downtown World Class Signage I went to a party up there. The owners received a foreclosuree notice from the sheriff during the party. There were no gift bags at this party. Did a lil shopping. Rodeo Drive and Wilshire were completely dead. I mean dead. Dior, Prada, Miu Miu, Gucci, LV, Barney's, Needless Markup, Saks EMPTY at 1 PM on Black Friday. Hugo Boss sales people were begging people to come in. The girls went back on Saturday and said there was even less traffic. My father, the second cheapest man on earth, went to buy some shoes. He was in the store for over an hour. He said since he was the only person in the store - not one person came in an hour - he had 4 people waiting on him to buy a one pair of shoes. Lots of empty stores. and as per the usual, I can never get a shot of Cleveland from above. Never ugh...
December 4, 200915 yr I hate LA Child so do I. But this past week the weather was in the 80s and the city seemed empty. I worried about my nephew driving in LA, but the traffic wasn't that bad.

December 4, 200915 yr That retail area reminds me of Crocker Park. It's the picture. Thats Rodeo Drive. There is n o t h i n g and I mean n o t h i n g about it that is similar to Crocker Park or Legacy Village. I went to a party up there. The owners received a foreclosuree notice from the sheriff during the party. There were no gift bags at this party. I wanna feel sorry for those people, but that's kinda funny. Don't feel sorry, you could tell they were living above their means. I went to the bathroom and open a closet instead there was a box with looked like 50 or so unopened bills. In the bathroom they had no toilet paper, how does a woman live in a house with only two bathrooms and there is no toilet paper. Plus they had all these successories, but very little furniture. It was one of those things where I knew something was wrong, but couldn't figure it out. Then when the sheriff showed up...the lightbulb went off. there were just little things that gave clues, like the gate not working. There was a sign that said "to enter, push gate" then they had a pad lock on the gate. The pool smelled really bad, like it hadn't been serviced in a while.
December 4, 200915 yr Oy, I'm going to have to start posting some LA threads to help its image a little bit amongst the Urban Ohioers. I don't find it nearly as depressing living hear as some make it out to be.
December 4, 200915 yr Thats Rodeo Drive. There is n o t h i n g and I mean n o t h i n g about it that is similar to Crocker Park or Legacy Village. You mean other than that vantage point that makes it look JUST LIKE Legacy Village.
December 4, 200915 yr Oy, I'm going to have to start posting some LA threads to help its image a little bit amongst the Urban Ohioers. I don't find it nearly as depressing living hear as some make it out to be. LA's traffic and nonchalant attitude annoy me. I dont like to drive or sit in traffic. Venice, Palms & Pico are nightmare streets. Normally I don't drive in LA, but have learned side streets, so this trip was a bit easier. When its 30/35 minutes to go from my house to the 405, it's maddening. when on paper that should take 10-15 minutes max. Although, this weird thing happened. We were eating at a restaurant and one of the waiters kept staring. My brother asked him what was his problem. The guy was you guys look familiar. So we started talking and he ask where we lived and we were like the Palms/Cheviot area. He says, "oh, I thouhgt you were visiting, I thought you may be out of towners." We were like, yes we are, we're from Cleveland. He says, "So am I." We ask what part, he says "Shaker. I used to live in Drexmore. I lived on Drexmore and Van Aken until 2007." Come to find out, his nephews go to school with my middle nephew. Small world. Thats Rodeo Drive. There is n o t h i n g and I mean n o t h i n g about it that is similar to Crocker Park or Legacy Village. You mean other than that vantage point that makes it look JUST LIKE Legacy Village. I still don't think it looks/resembles like legacy/crocker park.
December 4, 200915 yr Although blurry, it looks like the Terminal Tower has an interesting lighting configuration. MTS, I know its easier to blame the camera, but did the in flights drinks have anythig to do with it? :drunk:

MTS, I know its easier to blame the camera, but did the in flights drinks have anythig to do with it? :drunk: Now you know I dont drink. I dont have a super tech advanced camera, just my pda. The kids had the cameras and they came home Sunday. BUT it never fails, I can get pics of Manhattan, DC, BOS, LA, Miami but never Cleveland.

MTS, I know its easier to blame the camera, but did the in flights drinks have anythig to do with it? :drunk: It's red and green again for Christmas. And that giant blue blob between Key Tower and Tower City is thousands of blue LED lights on trees around the Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument. They're incredibly hard to look at when driving down Superior.

I don't find it nearly as depressing living hear as some make it out to be. It's my dream to work in LA, so I'd like to see the good side too. I love you young kids. Your dreams and aspirations.
December 4, 200915 yr That retail area reminds me of Crocker Park. It's the picture. Thats Rodeo Drive. There is n o t h i n g and I mean n o t h i n g about it that is similar to Crocker Park or Legacy Village. X probably knew this, but the part on the right is Two Rodeo Drive (http://www.tworodeo.com/), isn't it? It is a "lifestyle center" in all but name...so aside from the tenant quality, it certainly reminds me of Crocker and Legacy. Same cheesy-fakey facades and comprehensively designed blah-ness. A tad more wealth walking on those streets though. Cool shots, MTS! I love of the rare Southern California photo threads on UO. Wish I got out there more. Especially this time of year.

Thats actually via rodeo. The 6/7 stores are independant and there is walkway. too me IN PERSON it doesn't look cheesy. As there are street level stores on the pedestrian walkway and it's only one small block of the rodeo Drive shopping street. See it in person. It looks and feels like a street thats always been there. I don't feel like its "blah"...Especially considering what's on the inside of the store is what's important. I never take photos of LA because im always asleep or in the back of the car doing work, but when the kids are with me, we stop, we walk, ans they all have cameras and camera phones, etc. The only real pictures I took are of the battle-ax across the street who wont maintain her lawn. f*ck with me an I'll have her ass cited.

Sometimes it's faster to get from Downtown to SM/Venice Beach if you take Venice than if you take the 10! Pictures don't really do LA justice, as the city is actually pretty ugly. I don't mind it though. The ammount of cool stuff to do here, the topography, energy, weather, etc. all more than makes up for its ugly appearence. Oh, and Beverly Hills is really nothing like Crocker Park or any other lifestyle center. There are through streets thoughout pretty much all of it, and there is a surprising ammount of density to make the area pretty walkable.

I think though that Via Rodeo is part of the larger "Two Rodeo" development. I remember first reading about it in a ULI magazine many years ago or something. I thought it looked sort of fakey in person too, but you're right, definitely not "blah"- bad choice of words. It is seriously fancy and is a very pleasant pedestrian environment, which I have to admit is true about the lifestyle malls too...once you drive there. Less back seat work and more LA photos please!
December 4, 200915 yr Seeing Rodeo empty on a busy shopping day is creepy. For what it's worth, I can tell you that Palm Beach was the same way when I was there last month. We were there on a Saturday afternoon and both Palm Beach proper and City Place in West Palm were so dead, we had salespeople asking us to come in off the street.

I have to take city streets. If going to the one office/studio, I can take pico to fairfax to sunset. The other office is Century City, which is only 10 away non rush/25 min during rush. All the other offices I need to get to the 405 to get to them. The 405 can be maddening and I'm not even driving. Thats actually via rodeo. Dont get Black on me now. It's bad enough MayDay is quasi black! :P (he's sucking his teeth and rolling his eyes and neck right now) LMAO! 2 opened right when pretty woman came out. They even comment on it in the movie about it being the newest street in BH in some odd years. We shoot a lot of commercials and TV episodes there. We were there on a Saturday afternoon and both Palm Beach proper and City Place in West Palm were so dead, we had salespeople asking us to come in off the street. Personally I was happy. More sales people for me. My family outnumbered the people on the street. My dad actually "shopped." Which was shocking. My grandfather complained and kept asking "where are all the snooty rich people I see on TV? I want to see fake boobs and (bad) plastic surgery cases, this is LA for christsakes!" It was creepy. People weren't outside at the Luxe hotel or the Beverly Wilshire. Century City was dead. Westside pavillion seemed more active.

Gotta take advantage of the new traffic feature on google maps that shows you traffic speeds on arterials. I've been using this and it makes getting around during rush hour a heck of a lot easier! Got from my apt in West LA (west of the 405) to The Wiltern in under 45 minutes during evening rush hour recently! By the way, if there's a band you are interested in while in town playing The Wiltern I hightly recommend it... fantastic performance space.

The performance space was restored not to long ago and the sound quality is phenomenal.

December 6, 200915 yr Good to see some L.A. posts. I am fascinated by the city just because of its sheer size and ohh the Sprawl!
