Posted December 16, 200915 yr Little Rock has some rough points, but the city seems to be heading in the right direction with urban infill and the streetcar line. First off, Central High School, not just an art deco beauty, but a National Historic Site: From http://www.nps.gov/chsc/index.htm: On the morning of September 23, 1957 nine African-American teenagers stood up to an angry crowd protesting integration in front of Little Rock's Central High as they entered the school for the first time. This event, broadcast around the world, made Little Rock the site of the first important test of the U.S. Supreme Court’s historic Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka decision. Now, Downtown... Hum...what's that? Ooh
December 16, 200915 yr Interesting-looking downtown; it looks like there are a lot of quality vintage buildings in use and in good repair. I like the streetcar; do you know if that is one of the replica cars built by Gomaco? That broad street terminated by the Capitol is quite a vista; it would benefit by some more quality architecture filling in some gaps along the way, like that suface lot on the right in one of the last blocks.
December 16, 200915 yr Where is the Downtown Dillard's...isn't this the HQ city? Interesting pics, thanks for sharing

December 16, 200915 yr The same week that our President sent troops to the high school to force integration, the Soviets launched the first satellite, Sputnik. Americans noted that while our military was addressing racial problems, theirs was launcing their space program.
