Posted December 21, 200915 yr Corning was one of the larger towns in the Little Cities of the Black Diamonds region. Unfortunately, less than half of the town center remains today. An entire block resembling Shawnee is gone and a large hotel and 3-story brick block burnt in recent decades. The town was platted in 1879 by Joseph Rogers just after the completion of a railroad from Columbus was finally completed. The remains... '

December 21, 200915 yr Nice photos, Ink. Looks like Shawnee's Victorian era signature upstairs balcony porches were just as common at one time in Corning. While there's still something left to see in Shawnee, apparently only archival photos remain to show what was once in Corning. Sad...

December 21, 200915 yr I was hoping you got Corning! It's really staggering just how fast the boom and bust transpired in the region. I'm sure I'm not the only one getting an itch to take a tour of the Black Diamond region. Just fascinating stuff.
