I'll be so happy when my nephew no longer believes in Santa.  I cannot do another all-nighter.

Happy Yule from Raleigh, North Carolina... A place that's neither urban nor Ohio, but where my parents happen to live.

Looks like it's somewhat urban, though not in great shape. Actually, this part looks better.

Not-so-urban Raleigh:

  • 1 year later...

So are you kids ready for Santas visit?

Yep, present wrapping was completed a whole 60hrs ahead of last year's pace where we finished up at 2AM Christmas day.  Only thing to set up this year is an air hockey table.  Plus, nobody is getting anything electronic that I'll have to spend 4-5hrs helping them figure out.

Can't wait.  Love getting together with the fam!  And I just purchased a flash for my camera, so I'm looking forward to some good shots of the nieces and nephews!.

ROFLMAO!!!

I'm just glad that my neices & nephews no longer believe in Santa.  No more, staying up all night assembling toys.  whew!  Things No. 1 and 2 are in the midst of at least 10 years of playing "Santa".

The baby's spent the night last night and we just came back from the park.  While we were out, Mr & Mrs thing No. 1 & 2 came over and get all the big toys out of my basement.

I'm going to drop the kids off at the baby sitters house.  I know fussy doesn't "get" Christmas yet, he just wants to pull the bulbs off the tree and throw them.  I can't wait to see his and chunky's reaction tomorrow.

The younger your kids are the more fun Christmas is.  Once they are teenagers, they only want cash or clothes.

that might be more appropriate for the Occupy Wall Street thread!  LOL

Oh, Christmas time. The time of the year where I find myself trapped back in suburbia. "Trapped" being an overstatement, since I'm only here for three-ish days. Yet I find myself being escorted around my old suburb and getting irrationally angry as I pass the Walmarts, KFCs and Applebees. Anyone else have similar experiences going back home for the holidays?

Ultimately I know I'm incredibly lucky, so on and so forth. But dear God, it's painful to be back in the exurbs!

I think I've dodged the bullet this year. Not until Thursday did my niece call to give me the schedule for the family Christmas that she and her family host, and I was able to truthfully tell her that I already had made other plans; I did not elaborate that those plans involve a peaceful, contemplative Christmas in the comfort of my leather recliner with a good book, favorite mostly-classical CDs in my CD player, and probably more than one large mug of hot chocolate laced generously with rum or brandy.

I really enjoy kids, but ten or a dozen of them all keyed up over Christmas, plus grownups involving me in boisterous party games, leave me seriously craving tranquility. I look forward to my respectful and respectable Christmas.

Whatever your faith, I wish all my good friends at UO an enjoyable and fulfilling season and good health and a reasonable amount of prosperity in 2012.

Merry Christmas to all!!!!

Where you at!  Sounds rough.  Can't be that bad though.

All the kids are passed out... time for the adults to break out the coquito!

Merry Christmakah!!!!!!

Yup, my Christmas Eve dinner conversation was which old vineyard is being torn up for which developer's next "vision" of strip malls, tract homes and industrial parks.  I really hate going back out to Avon Lake.

Hope everybody is having a good holiday.

Merry Christmas to all my fellow urbanohioans :)

Did everyone have a good Christmas?  Did Santa bring you all what you wanted?

It's so funny to me what kids latch on to.  Mr. Fussy Pants has played more with the 3 boxes that some of his toys came in instead of the toys themselves.

Did everyone have a good Christmas?  Did Santa bring you all what you wanted? ...

Yes, he did. Peace and quiet and no annoying relatives.

I had a great Christmas and was home for a week with family.  I just relaxed and ate. No pressures, no deadlines, no checking email, no waking up early. Tomorrow I catch a train back to Chicago.  Jan 3, vacation ends and it's back to the grind. 3 full miserable months of Chicago winter. My next week off is April.  That seems like forever from now

Baby Jesus stolen

A two-foot statue of Baby Jesus was stolen from St. Patrick Church on Christmas.

Father James Reymann said the nativity scene has been outside the church for 33 years.

“There’s never been a problem with it before,” he said.

Reymann said Baby Jesus was in the crib Christmas morning, but when he went out to walk his dog that night, he saw it was missing...
