still in JXN? Try to make itup to Canton, the couthouse is worth the trip.  the square is usef in a lot of movies, time to kill probably being the most popular

Do I see confederate flags?  :x

Do I see confederate flags? :x

Yes you do.  They permeate the south.  South Carolina is the worst.  In fact I've seen t-shirts in ATL with that shyt.  They even have captions that its not about hate but about their heritage.  There is NOTHING different between that flag and a swastika.

Thanks for the photos!

Jackson looks clean and pretty well preserved.

Larger than I had expected, and with a lot of impressive historic buildings.

Courthouse is nice, but why does such a small city need a 3 lane one way?

Do I see confederate flags?  :x

Actually what you're seeing unless I missed it is the state flag of Mississippi.

Not sure as some of the flags are partially obstructed.  Anywho....it's the south.  You know how I feel about "the south"?!

Ahhh, Dixie!!!

I was here in 2000 for a fish convention. It was an interesting place....

Mississippi scares me. But it looks like Jackson has some nice historic skyscrapers.

Some outstanding historic buildings, well-kept city. Thanks for the photos.

Me too.

Jackson has an awesome nature center and public aquarium focusing on the gulf and Mississippi river eco-systems. It is first class. HUGE aquarium some 18 feet high by 30 feet long by 15 feet wide that is a replica of a riverbank habitat in the Mississippi with humongous Alligator Gar, Bowfin, Paddlefish, Sturgeon and much more....  all prehistoric river monsters!

I like this:

Not a frequentally photographed city... thanks for sharing!

I really like this image alot, the building is very ornate in its features.

A mini-Carew Tower!

anyone know why there is a half wall of concrete around the street light?

The mini Memphis...always glad to see pics of Jackson.

The art deco tower (yeah, wow..and in Mississippi no less) was renovated into 76 apartments, retail space, and a business center, cost $30M +.  Part of a larger project including the King Edward hotel.  This according to Preservation magazine.

@@@

There's some strange stuff in these pix.  How about that clocktower buidling.  Or that neoclassical monster with the courtyard behind the columns?

The nice thing is the way the old state capital (i guess) terminates the vista down that busy street.  I always wonder why  US cities dont make more of these "european" style neoclassical/baroque urban ensembles.  Indianapolis has a similar arrangement, but that street is underdeveloped, IMO.

The former Greyhound station looks identical to the one in Fort Wayne, that was turned into a parking lot in a weekend midnight raid by a real estate speculator, in order to do an end run around preservationists' efforts.

^It also looks just like the one still humming along in Cleveland (though smaller and...bluer).
