Kamm's Corner

So I decided that a photo thread on Kamm's corner was way overdue considering it is one of Cleveland best neighborhoods (in terms of being stabilized and income) and just received a face lift at Lorain and Rocky River drive.

Here's a couple of scenic shots in the Rocky Rive Metroparks....

Here's my favorite residential street in West Park: Greenwood.  This is probably Cleveland's best collection of tutor homes.  Apparently I have still have numerous distant relatives who live on this street...

This probably Cleveland's best collection of tutor homes.

There's a lot to be learned from tutor architecture!  Seriously, though, it's an underrated Cleveland neighborhood.  Some sections of it are quite urban, in a Lakewood sort of way.  I need to get down there to check out the Lorain Ave. improvements.  And I hope the Hillard Blvd bridge is redone a la Fulton, not the Innerbelt.

Gorgeous neighborhood!  Thanks for the pics

Thanks for the pictures.  Truely a charming neighborhood.  My grandparents lived here.

Love the deer!

Question:  Is West Park and Kamm's Corner considered the same thing?  Is Kamm's more the business district?

This is a very loaded question ;)....  Originally Kamm's Corner was meant to signify just the intersection of Rockey River and Lorain.  But the name now encompasses neighborhoods surrounding this intersection.  I have even seen a sign for Kamm's corner at Triskett and West 147th (which is definitively not Kamm's Corner)...  I believe the city is using the Kamm's Corner name as a way to market West Park since is such a highly repected name.

Nice looking neighborhood.

Love this area! I like the fact that the plaza actually boasts many independently/locally owned businesses, in contrast to the typical Westlake thing; even a small pet shop. The parking lot is not overly humongous and there is still a very walkable appeal to the area. Nice trees...great views overlooking the metro park. Lots of nice "Three Little Pigs" style brick homes! It is kind of a combination of urban/suburban if I had to describe it. And, to have that feature of a natural less altered river and meadow cutting though the area is the real treat!

Very nice photo set.

Kamm's and the West Park area in general have a strong Irish heritage.

As someone who is almost all Irish, I wonder if Kathleen's (?) Kitchen is still there on Lorain?  :-)

This along with Lee-Miles are the most surburbanesq neighborhoods in Cleveland.  Ranch homes, Culdasacks and dead end streets

To my understanding, West Park is not an official city neighborhood; it encompasses Kamm's Corner, Jefferson, Puritas-Longmead, and Riverside neighborhoods (city west of 117th).

Nah...half of Hough looks like this.

Hough where??  :wtf:

I think he means the ridiculous new stuff off of Chester.

Great pics. And so many great houses!!

This is the old Kilbane's Pub that's being renovated into Si Senor's Mexican Restaurant. The renovations have actually started, but it's interior stuff.....

It will be interesting to see the fusion of Mexican decor with a more Tudor-like structure. That is a small Tudor style structure, isn't it?

Very nice, urbanforever!  We see so little West Park on UO... It's a nice change of pace.

And boy, does the Lorain Ave. streetscaping make a world of difference!  This is the first I've seen of it, and now I want to go check it out in person.  :)

Also check out some of the superb articles about the Kamm's streetscape in Sun Newspapers :)

Great photos!

Nice quality residential stock.

Rocky River Metropark is beautiful in summer. I've biked through it a few times, and it's one of the most pleasant urban paths I've ridden.

No, Kathleen's closed about 3-4 years ago.  Its been through a few reincarnations since then and within the last month Big Daddy's Cheesesteaks opened in that space.  I tried it yesterday for the first time and it was pretty good.

Thanks.

Is there any chance that those are authentic Philly style Cheesesteaks ? (if you've had them---especially in Philly---you'll know what I mean)

Where on Lorain is this?

16804 Lorain.

Should be right in that area you photographed.

Not someplace I'd go out of my way to visit; even the urban section seems to lacking in interesting places, but the "coffee bar" and pub look promising. Now I want to see more gritty commercial streets in Cleveland.

^Kamm's Corner is not a place you would visit.  It is place where you would live.

There are plenty of them in Cleveland!!  If you are ever in Cleveland I suggest taking Lorain from downtown all the way west to Kamm's Corner.  You will find many there.  I hope to one day do a photo tread on the streett but it would take a long time..

Thanks.

I've not had a cheesesteak in Philly, so I can't compare to an authentic, but I thought it was pretty good.  I got the Cleveland cheesesteak which was a normal cheesesteak (shaved steak, onions, mushrooms, peppers & cheese) with a side of an au jus-like gravy for dipping.

It is the spot just west of the Kilbane's Pub/Si Senor building

Sounds good. I'll have to get over there
