Posted January 4, 201015 yr Back in August the daughter, wife and I went to Camp Lejeune, NC to visit the daughters Beau. While the two kids kanoodled, the wife and I took a day trip to New Bern. The weather was warm, but the town was a pleasant visit. New Bern (named after Bern Switzerland) is full of history. It was settled in 1710, and making plans for its 300th birthday next year. There'll be big goings on down there, might be worth the trip. The city has about 29,000 residents (though it doesn't really feel that big), and about 120,000 in the micropolitan area. Located at the intersection of the Trent and Neuse rivers, New Bern is about 30 miles from the Atlantic Ocean. For those interested in more info, here you go: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Bern,_North_Carolina Now for the far too many pics.:D 1. 2. 3. Bears everywhere 4. So ya want a cake, eh? 5. 6. Needs a trim. 7. 8. Tallest downtown building - it's under renovation. 9. Old theatre which I believe is being renovated. 10. Small Arcade 11. 12. 13. ^ 14. 15. Sculpture garden. 16. 17. All the rest of the pics were taken during a tour bus ride/tour. Being as I'm an old fart, and was tired out from walking, I talked the wife into the trolley-bus tour. The only other passengers were five retired ladies in town for a day trip. What fun. :D Actually, the lady giving the tour put out a lot of good info, but of course I can't remember most of it. 71. This one kind of looked out of place. 72. Quite a few chimneys for the south. 73. 74. 75. We stopped by a really old graveyard. :sly: 76. 77. The guide told us that going to the graveyard was quite the social event waaaay back in the day. The table-looking thing was used for picnics. :wtf: 78. Back on the tour. 79. About 45 minutes into the tour we stopped at the New Bern Academy (we got to use the restroom  ). January 5, 201015 yr Lots of Southern charm and graciousness there. For a city its size, it appears to have a lot to offer.
January 6, 201015 yr those homes are absolutely gorgeous, there must be some rundown parts of town :? http://www.mainstreetpainesville.org/
