All this talk about Chad Johnson being traded is making me sick to my stomach. Look, I know sometimes he gets out of hand, but we cannot let this guy go. He's just too damn good. He catches ridiculous passes that only a few WR's in the NFL will make and he brings a tremendous amount of publicity to Cincinnati that one couldn't pay for.

Plus, if we're really trading him because of his behavior, should HE really be the first to go??

Fact is ... he is a HOF'er anyway you slice it. In my opinion he's not even close to T.O. ...

If we let a HOF'er like CJ go, we'll be regretting it down the road very soon.

edale, I think it's the bonuses more than anything. I think he's been enticed by other teams with incentives on leaving when his contract is up. Btw, when is his contract up?

We need Chris Henry back too, man I miss his speed and the way he catches passes over defender's heads. CJ, TJ, and Henry are just straight up a lethal offensive tool.

^ He'll be back in 3 weeks. The 9th game of the season.

Without Henry you can really see the obvious running shortages.  I hope when he comes back we'll still at least have a shot at success.  That would add a completely new dimension to the team.

OMG Chad SUCKS this year.

WOw i said that, but i don't want him hurt though. I hope he will be ok.

you don't punt when you are down five with 5 minutes left in the fourth quarter if you have no confidence in your defense.

Why does Carson keeps going to a knee and not finish the play when they catch or try to catch someone offsides. It hurt them today since it was not called against the Bills during one of the drives in the game..

i blame chad.  if he had caught that gimme he would have taken it for a td, putting us up 2 scores.  bah!

yea if he does that again, i swear to God.

my thoughts exactly.  I love how the bengals defense makes every teams offense look awesome.  I swear every weekend theres some story about some running backhaving a break out game against the bengals.

This defense is not working. They should switch to something else, because i can't imagine a defense that is worse. It's mid season and things are not changing. So change is needed.

Enjoy it while lasts. Prepared to get waylaid by the mighty Patriots. That's one reason I'm not too bothered by the Bengals off-year. Everyone else is playing for second.

Honestly, I'm disappointed that the Bengals have returned to the Bungles.  I quite enjoyed our brief rivalry... it was quite intense for half a season.  Oh well... I guess it's the Browns' time now.

This, coming from a team that barely beat Dolphins 3-0.

lol!

How about switching to a 3-4 defense...I think that would suit the Bengals much better.  Especially since they seem poised to move Justin Smith and have already moved Robert Geathers to OLB for good.  When they got Sam Adams the other year I thought the 3-4 defense was going to happen then...unfortunately that never transpired, but I am hopeful it can happen next year.

I find it humorous that as the Bengals fans want to switch to the 3-4 defense, that the Browns fans want to switch back to the 4-3.

Also, I think it would be the worst idea ever for the Bengals to switch to the 3-4 right now, they hardly can field linebackers now, let alone needing a 4th starting LB.

^It's easier and cheaper to find good/quality linebackers in the NFL than it is to find defensive lineman.  And yes, the Bengals have been hurt at the LB position, but we have a slew of young/talented LBs that are ready and able to contribute.  Rashad Jeanty, Robert Geathers, and Landon Johnson are all solid players.  I could only imagine our linebacking core if Pollack hadn't gotten injured and Thurman wasn't a screw-up.

Now get rid of Bob Bratkowski and then we'll be on to something here.

Reports: Bresnahan out

BY MARK CURNUTTE | CINCINNATI ENQUIRER

January 2, 2008

CINCINNATI - The Bengals late today reportedly fired defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan and linebackers coach Ricky Hunley.  The club would not comment today on its coaching staff. But Bengals spokesman Jack Brennan said the club might have an announcement to make Thursday.  ESPN reported the firings on its SportsCenter news show tonight.  Messages left for Bresnahan, Hunley, head coach Marvin Lewis, other Bengals assistant coaches and several Bengals players have not been immediately returned.

THe offensive coaches need to go too. The defense is what got the Bengals back on track the 2nd half. The offense struggled the ENTIRE season.

^I partially agree, but I would find that hard to convince to NFL receptions leader TJ Houshmanzdeh...or Bengals single-season passing yards record breaker Carson Palmer...or even Bengals single-season receiving yards record breaker Chad Johnson.

There were some stunning numbers put up offensively...the problem was consistency.  The passing offense looked MUCH better when Chris Henry got back out on the field, and our rushing offense looked better any time Rudi wasn't on the field.  Cut Rudi and resign the O-line...hope for a healthier next year and call it done on the offensive side of the ball.  Oh yeah, and like I mentioned...get rid of Bratkowski (offensive coordinator).

^ Agreed.  Once the season was over, the only real fun was trying to predict what play the Bengals would run next.  I was right most of the time.

Chad Johnson just got named to the Pro Bowl in place of Randy Moss. Brady also isn't showing up. Derek Anderson is taking his place.

I originally posted this, but apparently ESPN has voided the trade due to "language issues" and the Bengals are now exploring more options. I got excited over nothing  :whip:

Big Deal for Big Man

By GEOFF HOBSON

February 29, 2008

An NFL source confirmed Friday the Bengals have swung one of their biggest deals in history by acquiring Lions defensive tackle Shaun Rogers for a third- and a fifth-round pick in the upcoming draft.  As of late Friday afternoon, the Bengals had not confirmed the deal.  The 6-4 Rogers, listed at 340 pounds, turns 29 in two weeks and has three years left on his contract but the Bengals are aparently open to renegotiating it.  A two-time Pro Bowler who led all NFL tackles in sacks this past season with a career-high seven, Rogers has been the subject of heated trade rumors ever since he left the locker room last season saying he wanted a change of scenery from a Detroit club that is 50 games under .500 since it took him in the second round of the 2001 draft.

So the Bengals' defense has lost Madieu Williams and Justin Smith...and gotten nothing in return.  We missed out on an opportunity to bring in Shaun Rogers, and now look at us.  We just lost two of the more athletic and talented defensive players on our team, and got nothing out of it...I'm not sure where we are heading.  It certainly does not look good though.

I have to agree. According to their website, the Bengals are also interested in Jets' tackle Dewayne Robertson, Colts' TE Ben Utecht, and FS Marlon McCree. I think Mike Brown is gonna screw us again.

I thought the Smith thing was just rumors at this point?

I think he's officially signed with another team.

I thought the Smith thing was just rumors at this point?

He is a 49er now.

I am not too disappointed over Justin Smith - Mr. 2 sacks and a "high motor".  The money he got is ridiculous for his production.  He has a lot of tackles, unfortunately most of them are 8 yards down the field - not good for a defensive lineman.  On the good news front, the Bengals got Odom, and Bengals.com states the deal is done:

After near misses on trades for defensive tackles Shaun Rogers and Dewayne Robertson, the Bengals are finalizing a deal with free agent defensive end Antwan Odom, who had eight sacks last season for Tennessee.  The terms of the deal are five years, $29.5 million, with $11.5 million in guaranteed money.  The Bengals are considering a switch to the 3-4 defense, but the best fit of personnel will be the ultimate factor in whether a change in the base defense is made.

I believe the draft will be the biggest factor in deciding whether or not to switch to a 3-4.  According to the people on the bengals.com forum, Pollack has been cleared by his doctor to come back but needs some time to announce a definite answer. If he returns and OD comes back, then that will bring major help IMO. OD might be a little rusty from not playing for 2 years, but Pollack is in the best shape of his life despite the injury he had.

Getting Thurman and Pollack back would be huge - those were big factors in the defensive problems.  I agree about the draft, and it does not seem they are set on one defense or the other so the players they get through that and free agency will decide it.  My gut instinct is that Pollack will not return though.  Hearing him talk makes it clear that football is not everything, and if he thinks there is any chance of another injury he will turn to broadcasting.

In my opinion. the Bengals are a kentucky team. they play a few hundred feet from the kentucky state line.. I know more bengals fans from NKY then in Ohio.. Ohio is mostly Cleveland fans.!. Just my opinion tho. But since my G/F is from cinci (colerain) she is a bengals fan.. so I have to watch them when I'm there... but I bleed Orange and Brown!!!!

You're not bringing anything to this discussion so the next thing that you boast about, it's getting deleted.

Tell that to all the people driving on I-75 South, from the Dayton area, on Sundays.  A good way to spot them is the Bengal flags, decals, Bengal buses, etc...

^Very True.  There are probably more Bengals fans north of the 275 loop than inside of it.  Who Dey!!

When I was at CCU.. We had a population project. and that was my topic of choice. so me and 2 other classmates went to PBS and did an exit poll after a bengals/browns  game.. We got 3,782 people with bengals gear to stop and answer where they were from.  and I was actually shocked to find out that most of them were families from KY.. the number was 1,137/Ohio 2,063/KY .. and 511 from IN and a the rest were from other states. I thought it was interesting.. thats why I shared that info..

That's the most scientific sh!t I have ever heard of.

Well the Bengals bar I go to in DC only has one person from Kentucky, and all the rest Ohio natives...

Landon Johnson has signed a contract with the Carolina Panthers...our defense continues to be dismantled.

Well thats great news....Our D is basically going to rely on the draft. I think Cleveland has been the biggest winners in the offseason so far...

WTF? Get Chris Henry out of here. I don't care how much talent he has. It's just ridiculous. There is a warrant out for his arrest.

You would think he learned his lesson the first time around. Apparently his side of the story is completely different though. It will be interesting to see how this one turns out. With this happening and Johnson bitching about wanting out it wouldn't surprise me if they picked a WR or two in the draft, especially with all the compensatory picks we just got.

Cincinnati Bengals Franchise Finally Showing They Can Get Tough

Posted Apr 3rd 2008 12:23PM by Sportz Assassin

You know how in the movies the outcast guy finally has enough of the bullying ... gets up, grows some cojones and responds?  Next thing you know, chicks dig him?  Think Three O'Clock High.  That's how I'm viewing the Cincinnati Bengals right now.  Long a franchise that just deals with all the garbage by giving in to the bullies ... the Bengals have finally pushed back.  Today, the Bengals cut Chris Henry after he was arrested for assault and criminal damaging.  Now, as Michael David Smith said in his post, it may be two years too late. Still, it is very un-Bengal like to break a talented guy off so quickly after running in with the law.  Sure, they did it to A.J. Nicholson last year, but he wasn't a guy that was getting on the field.  Henry was.

I'm sorry but get rid of Chad. I dislike cry babies. The Bengals never done anything to him. I can't believe how these multi million dollar players act these days. I'm black so it 's not a racial thing.

^ I agree!    For years I talked praise about how CJ wasn't like TO and many others with their on/off field distractions.

I said    " Oh, CJ just likes to have fun.        What's wrong with that?"

I am looking pretty silly now.
