January 18, 201015 yr Cleveland is one of five NFL teams that have yet to qualify for the Super Bowl. Furthermore, Cleveland has never hosted a Super Bowl, making it the only NFL city to have neither hosted nor sent a team to the Super Bowl This decade the Browns have been to the playoffs once. The Bengals have been twice. Since 1990, the Browns and Bengals have both been to the playoffs twice. The Bengals have been in two superbowls. Th Cleveland Browns ceased to exist for 3 years. You can say the Bengals have been sh!tty for the past few decades, but you can't claim the Browns have been any better. And at least Cincinnati never lost its NFL team... As someone who likes BOTH teams, I'd just like to point out that... A) NFL history didn't begin or get restarted in 1967. The Browns have FOUR NFL CHAMPIONSHIPS and have appeared in the NFL Championship Game NINE times. B) The Browns having been moved and rebuilt and still having the same level of success as the Bengals in the last 10 years is an indictment on the Bengals, NOT the Browns. If an expansion team has as much success as an existing team that should have had the benefits of continuity and time to build, that's an embarrasment for the existing team! C) I'm not sure what hosting a Super Bowl has to do with anything. It's only done in warm weather cities now, so neither Cincinnati nor Cleveland have any shot at doing so any time soon. Meanwhile New Orleans, Miami, Jacksonville, etc will host them again and again and again, despite having comparatively mediocre fan bases. It would make more sense to have the Super Bowl in LA every year if they want to be fair and assure good weather, but that's another discussion entirely.
January 18, 201015 yr And at least Cincinnati never had lost its NFL team stolen away... We didn''t "lose" our team. Modell and Baltimore stole them. How can that possibly be an indictment against the fans or the City? The NFL recognized the great, great fanbase we have, as well as the injustice done by the move, and left the franchise - colors, record books, etc. What other City/fanbase has the NFL done that for? Houston (Oilers) - no. LA (Rams or Raiders) - no. Baltimore (Colts) - no. Well, with all due respect to the fan base it was lawsuits, and a final feeling of remorse from Modell that left the name and colors in Clevelend on a technicality.

You forgot about the congressional hearings, protests in Cleveland and Pittsburgh (of all places) and the NFL-led talks between the two cities and Modell which led to the Browns merely being "deactivated" by the NFL for three years. I lived through it. To call it a "technicality" that we kept our name, records and colors... that's just ridiculous.
January 18, 201015 yr You can't reasonw w/cincy fans. Its the same group of people that think the bearcats could beat tOSU........LMFAO!!
January 18, 201015 yr The browns franchise is also worth more: http://www.forbes.com/2009/09/02/nfl-pro-football-business-sportsmoney-football-values-09-nfl_land.html
January 18, 201015 yr You can't reasonw w/cincy fans. Its the same group of people that think the bearcats could beat tOSU........LMFAO!! At least Cincinnati doesn't have to look to Columbus for a winning sports team, and actually has two universities with national calliber athletics.

At least Cincinnati doesn't have to look to Columbus for a winning sports team, and actually has two universities with national calliber athletics. Why do you take the bait? If you feed the strays, they will keep coming back. And, BTW, we root for the Buckeyes because they are the OHIO State Buckeyes... not the Columbus Buckeyes. NEO also supplies more than its fair share of the Buckeyes' talent. But regardless, I am going to see a "winning" PROFESSIONAL sports team this Thursday in downtown Cleveland so I don't get your Columbus comment at all.
January 18, 201015 yr What teams have done in the past shouldn't be used to measure how great a team or franchise is. What matters is what they are doing now. In the past decade both teams are about even when it comes to success, like edale said. By the way Ochocinco was named to the pro bowl.

In the past decade both teams are about even when it comes to success, like edale said. By the way Ochocinco was named to the pro bowl. One of the dumbest posts I've read, well, this decade.
January 18, 201015 yr Then they should me measured by their fan base. There really is no comparison, as evidenced by the "so called" sellouts in Cincinnati this year.
January 18, 201015 yr I guess edale really doesn't think much of his Bengals!!!!! Well why would anyone go to a Colts game? We have a pro (at least in name) team. I've gone up to 2 Pacer games in my lifetime. Both times my family made a weekend trip out of it and stayed in Indy for a day or 2.
January 18, 201015 yr To be honest I couldn't care less about which team has more championships or more playoff appearances. I want wins now, I don't care how good teams did in the past. And yes, I'm talking about the Bengals too (I'm a Bengals fan). This year and 2005 were nice but they are over so I'm looking at what they can do to become better (like fire Bratkowski) and get to the Super Bowl next year.
January 18, 201015 yr Fan? yes. Supid? no. I love the Bengals, but i'll be the first to say they have been extremely shitty for most of my lifetime. If I grew up in Cleveland my experience would be the same, except there would have been three seasons where my team didn't exist. Neither Ohio city should be bragging about our NFL teams...they've both been pretty pathetic the past 20 years.
January 19, 201015 yr As long as the winter is not as long and cold as winter in Cleveland we will be fine - thanks! However, since you are the second Browns fan to make this statement I thought I would point out to you that by losing to the Jets, the Texans were eliminated not the Steelers - just saying. The Steelers had been eliminated prior to the Bengals/Jets game. You Bengal fans can get through this long cold winter knowing that by losing to the Jets the first time, it kept the Steelers out of the playoffs! The 2nd loss to the Jets is ok also, because maybe you can say "at least we lost to the Superbowl winners"!!
February 5, 201015 yr Chad: Please sign Owens Posted by jreedy February 4th, 2010, 5:26 pm http://cincinnati.com/blogs/bengals/2010/02/04/chad-please-sign-owens/
February 5, 201015 yr It's just hard to fathom that a competitive professional football team in Ohio can not "legitimately" sell out regular season or playoff home games, unless they're playing Pittsburgh or Cleveland (thanks to their fanbases). This putrid "fan" support (or lack of it) is an embarrassment for the entire state. I don't blame Mike Brown for considering relocating the team, he should think about Akron/Canton.
February 5, 201015 yr Too much Browns loyalty in Akron/Canton. The market could not support another team.

This putrid "fan" support (or lack of it) is an embarrassment for the entire state. I don't blame Mike Brown for considering relocating the team, he should think about Akron/Canton. Are you saying the city don't deserve a team? Who says you have to sale out a year in advanced??? Nothing wrong with extensions. IT is not like they had 10,000's of tickets to be sold before game time. The 2-3k or so may have lost their job and others are cutting back. Im not complaining. We still got to the playoff's and the Browns didn't. ;)
February 5, 201015 yr The fact remains that the Bengals have 52 consecutive sellouts, have one of the best stadiums in the NFL, and have a sweetheart deal from Hamilton County. They aren't going anywhere...this is just typical Mike Brown posturing.
February 5, 201015 yr The Bengals have something like 52 consecutive sellouts with the last non-sellout game coming against the Houston Texans back in 2003. Yeah but there were numerous times, just this year alone, when outside entities had to swoop in at the last second and buy tickets to avoid black outs. Kroger and Chad Johnson each did it once. As a Browns fan it is hard for me to be impartial. Cleveland had a franchise that it loved and supported no matter what and was robbed of it. The Bengals put out a winning season, make the playoffs, and still struggled drawing fans in? I know there are hard economic times out there but no Bengals fan could sell me on the fact that things are worse off in Cincinnati than they are in NE Ohio. I'm not advocating the Bengals re-locate. That would be horrible for Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., the State of Ohio, northern Kentucky, and even the Browns themselves. Outside entites? These were local companies. Infact if it wasn't for corporate sponsorship most teams wouldn't be around today. Wait a minute the fans owe you nothing. The fans owe the NFL nothing. If there was 15,000 fans at the games then i would maybe agree, but the stadium has had 60k+ fans the past 52 games in a row. It's not the fans fault. It's the Bengals fault. EDIT: Fixed quoted sections
February 5, 201015 yr I just want to know why Cleveland posters have to keep coming into the Cincinnati sports threads to stir up trouble. Yes, we know the Browns are terrible. We know you don't have a college football team either. I think it would be best for Clevelanders to move on from football, and talk about their one quality team, the Cavs. You can bring up the same tired line about ticket sales (a sellout is a sellout in my opinion), but the bottom line is our team went to the playoffs, beat your team twice, and the Browns were the laughing stock of the NFL.
February 5, 201015 yr ^That should be an effective way to get rid of them. I know when I don't want to fight and want the other guy to walk away... I punch him in the nuts ;)
February 5, 201015 yr ^Why is the expectation that Cincinnati fans should just not respond to antagonistic comments? In both the Bearcats football thread, and this thread, Clevelanders have felt the need to come in and talk shit about our teams, and when we respond, we're told it's out of line. Cleveland posters belittled UC's undefeated regular season, celebrated Brian Kelly's departure to ND, and now advocating that the Bengals move to another city. Meanwhile, if you take a look at the Cleveland sports threads, you rarely, if ever, see comments of this nature from Cincinnati fans. At first I thought it was just a few disgruntled posters, but maybe it is really just that Cleveland sports fans are a rough and classless group, ala Philadelphia fans. Sam Wyche hit the nail on the head when he said "you don't live in Cleveland" as a response to fans throwing trash on the field.
February 6, 201015 yr ^^Easy with the generalizations. Yes, we are a passionate bunch and can be a bit rough around the edges. Try to wear a Bengals jersey to Browns stadium - or if you are really ballsy, the dawg pound - and you will find out. But you don't have to condemn the whole lot of us as 'classless' due to the immaturity of a few you have interacted with on this forum. I usually read all these threads and with the exception of one poster, I don't see anyone coming over to any Cincy sports threads and going past any light ribbing you should expect in any rivalry. In the Cincy thread, that was more "OSU fan" than "Cleveland guy" giving you a hard time. Just so happens that some of those guys were from Cleveland which is a faithful OHIO State football town because, as you continually remind us, we have no major D1 team up around here. That said, I feel fairly conofident in saying that NEO has 14 times as many college football national championships in the last 20 years than the rest of the State combined!!
February 6, 201015 yr Really? How does the topic change from Chad wanting T.O. signed to dissing the Bengals fans? If your not a Bengals fan then simply don't click the forum that reads "Cincinnati Bengals Discussion". That way you don't have to talk to us "putrid" fans. It's really not that hard.
February 7, 201015 yr Play nice kids! There's nothing wrong with a little smack talk. We'll beat the Browns twice AGAIN in 2010 and piss em off even more! :-D Meanwhile, this Bengal minion is keeping fingers crossed! Expect Terrell Owens to Join the Cincinnati Bengals Saturday, February 06, 2010 Written by Bob Cunningham http://www.yardbarker.com/all_sports/article_external/Expect_Terrell_Owens_to_Join_the_Cincinnati_Bengals/2044310 What started out as playful banter between Chad Ochocinco and Terrell Owens has not gotten serious enough that T.O. is addressing it, saying he'll change his name to "Ocho Uno" if and when he becomes a member of the Bengals.
February 7, 201015 yr Browns and Bengals fans will share the same solidarity tomorrow on their respective couches tomorrow as two real teams play. I'm rootin for the colts...+5 :)
February 7, 201015 yr Once again, this has become ridiculous. The Bengals have sold out 52 straight games, all under the completely inept ownership of Mike Brown. I personally would like to see how another city would respond with the track record he has had since 1990 - what is it 2 winning seasons? I would hazard a guess that that team would not continue to sell out games, and would likely be ridden out of town. This year, the team made the playoffs, which is good, certainly not great. Cleveland football fans' obsession with the Bengals as well as the Bearcats is old, yet very typical. This is a little strange, because having gone to OSU and UC I am a fan of both, but the flaming on that and this board is a real turn-off. I guess I have not read it that much, but it just doesn't seem like Cincy fans go onto the Brown's board to talk smack. Not that there is not a lot of smack to be had.
February 7, 201015 yr Geez. Touchy bunch. Why so sensitive. Anyways... got the point although I don't think I have personally posted anything out of line. I am a football fan. If there was a Toledo Rockets thread, I would post there also. Note to my fellow Cleveland football fans - if you don't have something nice and pleasant to say about the other NFL team in this state, don't say anything at all. Let's keep things all peaches and ice cream fellas. After all, we don't want to seem "obsessed" with the Bengals :-D If you want to mix things up even a little bit, go to a Shitsburgh site... at least they can stomach a little back and forth.
February 7, 201015 yr ^It's not back and forth when only one side is participating. It's not back and forth when you suggest our team should leave Cincinnati. The uproar that would happen if a Cincinnati person went into a Browns thread and said that your team should leave Cleveland (again) would be incredible. Please don't make it seem like we are being overly sensitive, when the reaction would be ten fold if the reverse played out.
February 7, 201015 yr The Bengals have sold out 52 straight games, all under the completely inept ownership of Mike Brown. What are you talking about? There is nothing inept about Mike Brown. Probably one of the smartest owners out there. He treats the Bengals as a business, a business that is making his family a LOT of money. He's not like these other silly owners who only care about winning football games and championships! His bottom line is his family's pocketbook, and at that he is very successful! A fe winning seasons every few years and the fans just keep on coming. When the team is down, they make a few changes, they win a few games, and they're back! Win the division, go to the playoffs, and raise ticket prices! Very shrewd. He's letting the county know, that if they fight him, he will do all he can do to get out of the lease. When he wins, he will get more money from another city and he will leave. Of that, there is no doubt.
February 7, 201015 yr Play nice now kids, cuz daddy has some money on the only game that matters this year. As for the Browns leaving again, I'd wholly support that, maybe when the team returns we'd get a better one. A new team certainly couldn't be worse. :-P

Bengals fans are that dedicated. So dedicated in fact, that we would, under absolutely no circumstances, allow our franchise to pack up and move to a place like Baltimore.

And the Browns bashing continues.. When the Bengals move to L.A., or another city that can legitimately sell out a playoff game, the NFL will work on awarding a new franchise to Cincinnati about as fast as the NBA worked on getting Cincinnati a new NBA team after the Royals moved. Because their team will be lost due to a lack of fan support, unlike Cleveland who lost a team due to a greedy New Yorker that was mad because the city built a new baseball stadium (while letting the Indians out of their lease with Modell) before they built a new stadium for that piece of gargage Modell. Browns fans outnumber Bengals fans at least 3-1 (I'm not aware of a national Bengals Backers fan club), the franchise is still worth a couple hundred million more dollars than the Bengals, and the Browns "fans" actually sell out games; all despite having one of, if not the worst "team" over the past 10 years. As far as the UC Bearcats, I rooted for them all year because they are an Ohio school. However, I seriously doubt that many Cincinnatians would root for Akron or Kent St should they join a little bigger conference, and have a couple of good years like UC.
February 8, 201015 yr ^ chill dude, the browns suck, we all know this, take your noise outside of their forum and enjoy the superbowl... ya know the game that the browns and bengals won't be in anytime soon.
February 8, 201015 yr The "Your team's fans are mean, we've been over here all innocent *cough*your mother is a mule*cough*! ... No, your team's fans are mean, we've been over here all innocent *cough*I heard your mother started drinking again*cough*!" argument is not very interesting regardless of what forum, bar, or living room it takes place in. There is no place for high horses in a sports forum, and certainly not for anyone that's been involved in this silly line of conversation.
February 8, 201015 yr This Cleveland vs. Cincinnati nonsense is going to stop right now. Clean up your behavior, or I'm going to start cleaning up this thread and laying down the UO law.

July 27, 201014 yr Bengals discuss deal with Owens ESPN.com news services Updated: July 26, 2010, 7:24 PM ET CINCINNATI -- Cincinnati Bengals owner Mike Brown is trying to produce his own reality show. Terrell Owens. Chad Ochocinco. Together in Cincinnati. Brown said on Monday that the team has discussed a contract with Owens and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. The Bengals passed on the chance to sign the 36-year-old receiver after a tryout in March, but have given it more thought now that he remains a free agent. Sources had told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen that the St. Louis Rams also were interested in signing Owens, however the team decided Monday against adding Owens. If Owens accepts the offer, the Bengals would lead the league in reality show stars. Receiver Chad Ochocinco appeared on "Dancing With the Stars" in the offseason, and has a dating show called "Ochocinco: The Ultimate Catch" currently playing on VH1. Right after Ochocinco's show comes "The T.O. Show." Full story: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5411203
July 27, 201014 yr I have mixed emotions on this - he might be able to help stretch the field, but he can also turn into a complete distraction. The only reason I would consider him is due to the anemic pass offense last year. The Bengals really blew strong defensive and running game performances.
July 27, 201014 yr T.O. and Ocho Cinco on the field at the same time would be a deadly combination. It would force a unique defensive strategy by the opposing team, as most secondaries shade toward the number one receiver or double team the number one receiver during passing situations. While it wouldn’t be the first time a team has two receivers that could both be number one guys, it would be the first time a team has had two receivers that are each arguable able to be the best in the league.
July 27, 201014 yr He's had a negative impact on each of the last 2 or 3 teams that he's played for. I'm surprised he's getting this much attention.
July 27, 201014 yr ^Probably not but he is a complete receiver. Long threat, possession receiver and his physical prowess allow him to get good YAC and block much smaller CB's. Ochocinco probably isn't a #1 either except in name. He has always been better served with a supporting cast like Houshmandzadeh, et al.
July 27, 201014 yr According to ESPN.com, one of their insiders just reported that he signed a one year 2m deal with the Bengals.
