December 29, 20159 yr Alright I'll say it. AJ McCarron looks a little like jmecklenborg[/member] ? www.cincinnatiideas.com
December 29, 20159 yr Alright I'll say it. AJ McCarron looks a little like jmecklenborg[/member] ? Put that dumb tattoo on my brother Karl and he'd have a twin.
December 29, 20159 yr It's over. AJ McCarron got hurt that last play. MRI to be done today. They'll start Sanu at QB. He's got the foot stomp down, at least. Seriously McCarren looked outstanding in the first half. Like Montana or the other legends leading those flawless drives. You could tell The Bengals were getting really tired from the altitude in the 4th quarter. If they had won the coin flip they obviously would have had a much better chance at winning, but by that time the team's first half brilliance was breaking down because of the fatigue.
December 29, 20159 yr I couldn't agree more, they really got worn out and Denver also started to show why they have the #1 defense in the league, mixing things up on defense and blitzing like crazy on McCarron. McCarron really showed a lot in this game though. It's dissapointing they missed that 45 yard field goal close to the end of the 1st half, that would have kept a ton of momentum going into half with a 14 point lead instead of an 11 point lead, it makes a big difference. I like McCarron, he will be a good QB in this league. He is a much different QB than Dalton. Dalton doesn't have the arm strength but he has a better rhythm in the offense. McCarron is like an old school, drop back QB with a gun. But, he is accurate with it and really smart with it. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Bengals start fielding some offers for him to get traded. I think they may have an option on his rookie contract which I am sure they will exercise and possibly trade around the draft. Or, they could keep him as a back up as they groom a 3rd string back up, who knows. He is a cheap luxury right now but when his rookie contract is over, he will be worth a lot. Did any news come out of his MRI? The thing is though, it's his non-throwing hand, so they still may be able to tape it up enough to stabilize so he can keep playing.
December 29, 20159 yr Sounds like the MRI turned out pretty good for McCarron. He will likely be back next week.
December 30, 20159 yr That's good news. I sprained my wrist my sophomore year of football. It really does feel like a break, went to the ER, had to leave the game, etc. They put a splint on it and I didn't practice all week, then had it taped heavily during the game. It was painful but the tape job kept it in place from moving too much. Since it is his non-throwing hand, he may have issues transfer snaps to his throwing hand or handing off with his left hand. He is a big guy though, so he shouldn't have too much trouble gripping the ball. The Bengals really need to get this W against the Ravens and keep the 3 seed. It looks like they are lining up with the Jets right now. I like this match up a lot better than the Texans. I think for me personally the Chiefs would be best for the Bengals, but they can beat the Jets and they have a better team than them. In reality, Cincinnati wins their last 3 with Dalton in for a 2 seed, but if they can grind it out past the Ravens and Jets in these next two games (if the Jets are indeed their opponent), it it will set up nicely with a rematch against Denver and Dalton back full speed. Dalton would be a better option than McCarron against the quick, blitz oriented Broncos defense. Dalton did a remarkable job this year of quick passes and decision making that McCarron at this stage simply can not do because of his low experience level.
January 4, 20169 yr If Marvin is going to get his first playoff win. He will have to do it against the Steelers. Can he do it?
January 4, 20169 yr If Marvin is going to get his first playoff win. He will have to do it against the Steelers. Can he do it? Don't we already no the answer to such a question as this?
January 4, 20169 yr A terrible scenario: McCarron leads the Bengals over the Steelers, and then Dalton loses the following week.
January 4, 20169 yr McCarron can do his part, but the offensive line has to improve over yesterday's poor performance and give him a little more room.
January 4, 20169 yr I got tickets to the playoff game for Christmas, so I'll be down there to witness either the misery or the unadulterated joy on Saturday night, depending how things turn out. I attended the home playoff loss against the Chargers, and the final two Reds losses in the improbable home sweep at the hands of the Giants. Those were truly awful experiences- misery and heartbreak amplified on a mass scale due to the crowds and collective hopes of the fans. I'm worried this Saturday will be another sad chapter in Cincinnati's crummy sports history, but oh how sweet it will be if we win. Beating the Steelers to get a first playoff win in 25 years? And it's a Saturday night game? Downtown is going to be rowdy regardless of the outcome of the game, that's for sure.
January 4, 20169 yr I am very confident that McCarron will step in and not let fans down. The playoffs are basically guaranteed. Cincinnati clinches a playoff spot with: 1) CIN win OR 2) NYJ loss OR 3) KC loss OR 4) CIN tie + KC tie OR 5) CIN tie + NYJ tie They will want the BYE even more with the Dalton injury. DEN probably loses @ PIT this weekend giving CIN the lead for the 2 seed. CIN @ DEN will be for the BYE as both have winnable games at home in Week 17. KC and NYJ /should/ win this weekend and keep PIT on the outside looking in. <fingers crossed> Problem is, PIT will win out with their schedule and get to 11-5. They will probably take NYJ place. KC should hold serve. I'm predicting: 1. NE 2. DEN 3. CIN 4. HOU 5. PIT 6. KC Flip flop NE/DEN and PIT/KC and it was right.

January 10, 20169 yr That game was the most insane thing in the history of the NFL. There were so many totally insane episodes you can't think about one before you're distracted by another. And you can't even chuckle about any of them since several guys suffered serious injuries on both teams. The problem with this game is that it's going to hang over this franchise next season. This loss was *way* worse than any of the recent playoff losses since there were so many intentional malicious incidents by both teams yet inconsistent personal foul calls by the refs. Both incidents with the Pittsburgh coaching staff interfering with the game should have seen them ejected and thing with Adam Jones at the end of the game should have been offset since that Pittsburgh coach wasn't even allowed to be on the field. It's crazy though...a different call on that Jeremy Hill run with 1:30 on the clock and The Bengals almost certainly would have won the game.
January 10, 20169 yr It's crazy though...a different call on that Jeremy Hill run with 1:30 on the clock and The Bengals almost certainly would have won the game. Except that call was correct. Hill clearly lost the ball. I wish the Bengals would have called a timeout after lining up before this play. You could sense the anticipation in the Bengals players. I feel had they taken a TO, and had more time to simply calm down, refocus, and realize the game was theirs if they would just hold on to that damn ball.......... The Steelers didn't win. Immaturity beat the Bengals.

We get all our "incidents" named, so Bungle In The Jungle seems to fit. That coach was Joey Porter, who once got kicked out of a Stoolers-Browns game before it started. But they usually cut the coaches slack when there's a hurt player on the field. The Shazier hit was borderline legal but they call the Burficit one every time.
January 10, 20169 yr I FULLY expect Marvin to be fired by the morning. Mike Brown has reverted to idiotic form if he does. That said, Marvin just burned a lot of the slack he'd get the next time they miss the playoffs.
January 10, 20169 yr The chaos in Cleveland compared to our consistently making the playoffs year after year is exhibit A in the case for NOT firing Marvin. The truth is football is a fickle game, folks have trouble reconciling that with the emotional investment they put into it. www.cincinnatiideas.com
January 10, 20169 yr Except that call was correct. Hill clearly lost the ball. I think he meant the "defenseless player" no-call on the hit that caused the fumble. Interesting, since the Bengals were hit with a bad defenseless player call in the previous half. The refereeing in that game was sloppy, to put it mildly.
January 10, 20169 yr Different year and different circumstances, same old shit from the good old Bengals. I'm done with them.
January 10, 20169 yr Well, I went to The Meltdown at Paul Brown and trust me when I say, the crowd was 10X fired up than I'm sure was shown on television. The fourth quarter was insane; depression, elation, shock, anger, then finding the exit. When we got the interception after the touchdown I was hugging complete strangers, elated and joyful beyond belief that FINALLY I would get to witness a playoff win. Though I leaned over to my sister and said "we can still lose this game. It is the Bengals, after all." Next play, Jeremy Hill fumbles the damn ball and the final minute and a half was just a nightmare. I couldn't sleep last night, and I've felt legitimately depressed all day. Sports shouldn't do that to you- it's just a game after all. But NO sports fan should have to endure the feeling that was hanging in the air at the end of last night's game. Broken hearted doesn't even come close to describing the feeling. Just pure misery, disgust, astonishment, and embarrassment. Cincinnati = choke city, and that really, really sucks.
January 10, 20169 yr Marvin will stay as head coach. Sources from ESPN. The Bengals have the same chances as the Browns of winning the Super Bowl with Marvin as their coach. The man simply cannot get it done. His record in primetime games is abysmal, and he is the first coach IN NFL HISTORY to go 0-7 in the playoffs. The Bengals could go 16-0 next season and I still would not be excited going into the playoffs. Lucy can only snatch that football away so many times before Charlie Brown wises up and tells her to kick rocks. That's about where I'm at with the Bengals.

January 11, 20169 yr Not much you can say. In reality, when they fumbled the ball, that was the end of the game. They couldn't really just kneel down, because then you have quite a long field goal. You got to tip your cap to Shazier, that was a great strip. I'd say chances are fairly low when you give the ball up to Roethlisberger with 1:30, 3 timeouts and 40 yards to go. They did have a shot though. Just 18 seconds would have been left with the ball at the Steelers 40. They would have needed to complete 1 deep side line pass, at least 15 yards, get out of bounds, or spike it with a throw down the middle. The thing with Burfict is he is legitimately one of the top 3 inside linebackers in the game. You take away his edge, and he may lose his ability to play at top tier. You got to live or die by it. He makes some incredible plays, and some incredibly dumb plays. On that knockout hit, I am sure he was just going through the motions and wasn't even thinking and forgot to realize he is 245 lbs. of muscle, then downhill from there. I don't know what to say, except the Steelers were in the Bengals heads. In regards to Marvin Lewis, maybe you look to replace but what coach would you want besides maybe Hugh? This is the best team Cincinnati fielded in a long time and it's hard to argue that if they had Dalton, they would have probably got the #1 or #2 seed and been rolling. I still think they could have beat the Patriots next week with McCarron. McCarron was admirable, but Dalton is at a higher level right now. On this one, I believe Mike Brown is smart to keep Marvin and moves forward. They will have a decent draft pick and I think they need to get another linebacker or safety in the first two rounds. If they don't put it together this next year, then I think you look to have him replaced. Sorry for the long rant, but the Bengals are my adopted team and I never had an NFL team growing up or before I moved here, so I am disappointed like everyone else. These losses can burn and this one is going to burn a long time until next year gets started. But that's sports.
January 11, 20169 yr So...Pittsburgh fans actually started calling Cincinnati sports bars to insult the staffs. That's how pathetic their fan base is. They get on their smart phones, googled "cincinnati sports bar", then started calling random bars and throwing insults. This was probably started by somebody on twitter and perhaps they've done it to other cities. I also saw a Steelers fan who was a bartender at a Cincinnati bar whose name I won't disclose taunt and then fight some Bengals fans at the end of the game. I was there for the final five minutes of the game and it was amazing hearing the whole neighborhood going crazy after the interception. After the fumble the bartender taunted 10-20 Bengals fans and after the field goal they traded punches outside the side door. It was total lunacy.
January 11, 20169 yr Honestly, that last paragraph is fairly normal. That's rivals in a playoff situation at a bar at midnight. Not much rationalization, or good behavior comes out of that situation. I've seen that countless times.

I've seen that countless times. Except all of this doesn't happen in Cincinnati when we play The Browns, Baltimore, or even Indianapolis, which is the closest city with an NFL team. The Pittsburgh fans are totally and completely out-of-control, on a huge, near-riot scale at all times, regular season or otherwise. I quit going to that game in 2012 after a Pittsburgh fan came by our grill and stole food off it, then asked "what we were going to do about it". I mean, who does that?

They don't do that at the Muni Lot. They would get seriously beat down by pretty much anyone so inclined in the area and would be the only ones arrested.
January 11, 20169 yr After the performance and lack of civility of both teams, Denver should just get a bye next week instead of letting the Steelers play on. Mike Munchak and Joey Porter should be immediately suspended from the remainder of the playoffs. If the Steelers win the Super Bowl, they should not get a ring, financial benefits, or official recognition. They should be suspended for at least half of next season for their embarrassing behavior. It's pretty telling how an organization is run when there have been 3 coaches in the last two years who have tried to start fights or interfered with a live ball. Really disgraceful. This doesn't mean the Bengals should have won. Neither team deserved the win. At least our coaching staff wasn't pulling hair and taunting players on the field, though. If we would have won that game, everyone would be talking about the terrible unsportsmanlike conduct of the Steelers organization, not the Bengals.
January 11, 20169 yr Poor attendance will be coming. This will set the stage for Brown leaving the city.

Here is the list for you to see it: http://www.pro32.ap.org/abqjournal/article/2013-all-pro-team Secondly, if he wanted to completely knock out Antonio Brown, he could have easily done that. Yeah it was dirty and he shouldn't have done it, I'm not condoning it, but in my mind that was simply a play where he wasn't even thinking, not so much that he was looking to knock him out. You can tell he wasn't 100% when he hit him. If you look at this video here, you can see he puts his full body into it, laying out 6'4", 260 lb. Tight End Maxx Williams. He definitely didn't do this to Antonio Brown: http://www.totalprosports.com/2016/01/10/vontaze-burfict-headshot-maxx-williams-video/
January 11, 20169 yr Poor attendance will be coming. This will set the stage for Brown leaving the city. If they keep playing at the level they have, and have poor attendance, yes it could. I don't see that happening. Mike Brown idolizes his father, who LOVED Ohio. I can't imagine him considering a move unless the future of the team itself were at stake. I've always thought the threat of relocation back in the 90s was an empty one. Mike Brown might have used the hysteria in the wake of the Browns' move to Baltimore to his advantage, but he isn't Art Modell.

I'm not saying he isn't a dirty player, but I don't think he was consciously trying to knock out Antonio Brown on that play. That's what I meant when I said he plays with an edge that you can't really turn off or on. You got to take the good with the bad if you want him on your team. His good is top level NFL good, his bad is top level NFL bad. I don't necessarily think that hit on Maxx Williams was illegal in the sense that you can mark receivers less than 5 yards down the field. It's more unwritten rules dirty, but still in the confines. If the NFL did deem that he hit Williams helmet to helmet, then he would get fined with that, but marking a receiver less than 5 yards down the field isn't a penalty. Not saying it isn't dirty, but that happens all the time in the NFL and college.

Every ILB in the league can cover the pass, stuff the run & rush the passer. Ever watch Clay Matthews? How about Shazier? I'd put both ahead of him for starters... I could pick a half dozen more from the other playoff teams Fact is, Steelers had 167 yds rushing and he's gonna get rung up hard by the Ginger Hammer for this latest hit and his past record.
