January 10, 201015 yr I think Marvin needs to go as well. 2 challenges and lost them, with all in the first quarter is really insane.
January 13, 201015 yr Did the Bengals actually sell out the playoff game? I'm not talking corporate ticket buyout's, but actual people in seats. I know they needed an extension for every home game (except for Browns & Steelers), before they were eventually bailed out. Hard to imagine a divisional winner not being able to sell all of their tickets. :wtf:
January 13, 201015 yr Awwwwww. Better luck next year. Yeah. Hey, I didn't catch the score of the Browns game this weekend, how'd they do? :)
January 13, 201015 yr Awwwwww. Better luck next year. Yeah. Hey, I didn't catch the score of the Browns game this weekend, how'd they do? :) I tried to be nice and comforting. However, now, you've made me go there. The Browns were not playing, they were at home watching the Bengals get their asses whipped on national TV! See how that works? ;) ;D
January 13, 201015 yr Ticket brokers were selling playoff tickets for less than face value! That surpises me. Browns playoff tix would be the hottest item in town.... IF we ever hosted a playoff game. But I can remember when I was a kid and the Browns were perrenial playoff contenders. The City went mad. Songs were written about them. Too bad the younger generation has not gotten to experience all that hoopla..... YET! Re the Bengals losing to the Jets this past weekend, I hate to say I told you so. Well... that's not true - TOLD YOU SO! Terrible plan for Week 17.
January 13, 201015 yr I was saying the same thing this past week, there were no songs in Cincinnati equivalent to "Bernie, Bernie"! I also like to point out to my friends here in Cincinnati, that the Bengals only got to the Super Bowl in "88 because Bernie was injured and the Browns had to use 6 quarterbacks while still making the playoffs as a wild card!
January 13, 201015 yr The playoff game sold out, but without much fanfare. I'm guessing the reason behind that was the trip that many Cincinnati football fans took down to New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl. Add in the fact that the Bengals flubbed the last several weeks of the year, and the Bearcats got shafted in every which way, and you have a burnt out football fan base.

I'm not watching another football game until September. I'm done.

They're the bad, bad Cleveland Browns the baddest team in the whole damn town they're badder than a team should be they're gonna win the AFC.
January 13, 201015 yr Yes, unlike the Bengals they are a real NFL franchise. They've even won NFL championships!
January 14, 201015 yr Yes, unlike the Bengals they are a real NFL franchise. They've even won NFL championships! The Browns that were once decent now play in Baltimore. Don't confuse the two.
January 14, 201015 yr Sorry, check the record book. Those are the Cleveland Browns, who's history goes back to 1945. They are not the Colts whose best quarterback ever was Johnny Unitas, nor are they the Dodgers who broke the racial barrier with Jackie Robinson, or John McGraw's Giants! Hell, even the Seattle Pilot's history transferred to Milwaukee!
January 14, 201015 yr Have to give credit to Bengals fans for creativity on why they didn't sell out (legitimately) for home games. Each week, it seems to be a different, yet fresh, explanation as to why fans don't show up to support their city's team, a competitive one at that..
January 14, 201015 yr Cincinnati Bengals (and really all sports...) fans are just relly jaded. In 2005, the last time the Bengals made the playoffs, Bengals gear was flying off the shelves, every game was sold out quickly, and Bengals fever was undeniable all hroughout Cincinnati. The day of the game, a couple of the local networks cancelled regular programming to insted air multiple hour specials on the Bengls. Then the game starts, and Carson Palmer gets taken out with a knee injury, and you could just feel the misery of the entire region, and feel the pain that yet another chance at greatness was destroyed by a fluke injury. The same story has happened to Cincinnati more times than I think anyone cares to count. When the Bearcats basketball team was ranked number 1 almost all year, and the team was heavilly favored to win the final four, Kenyon Martin goes down with an ankle injury. Brian Kelly left the Bearcats before the Sugar Bowl, leading in part to an embarassing showing n the final game that made a lot of people forget about the 12-0 regular season. Thad Matta and Sean Miller led Xavier basketball to the elite 8, only to depart to bigger programs, and forcing XU to completely reload. We finally got Griffey back in Cincy, and he couldn't stay healthy for 3 weeks. Time after time after time this crap has happened to Cincinnati sports teams, and yet we still lend our support in a cautiously optimistic way. The Bengals sold out all their games from 05, on up through this season. Last year we went 4-12, and those games were still sold out. Take the shitty season they had last year, the resentment the entire city feels for Mike Brown, and add in that history of heartbreak, and those 65,000+ seats start to get pretty hard to fill.
January 14, 201015 yr Don't you live in Cincinnati? Or do you just enjoy being a troll in every thread you post in?
January 14, 201015 yr As 8Titles said, Creative!! Almost as creative as Browns fans are when they try and pretend the current franchise has some sort of legacy. All the lawyers of the collective angst of Cleveland can't sell that to me!!
January 14, 201015 yr Yes, unlike the Bengals they are a real NFL franchise. They've even won NFL championships! The Browns that were once decent now play in Baltimore. Don't confuse the two. Ohhhh shiiiiiiiiiit!!!
January 14, 201015 yr Don't you live in Cincinnati? Or do you just enjoy being a troll in every thread you post in? Yes, I live in Cincinnati. I am a Brown's fan who has lived in Cincinnati for almost 40 years. I think I am qualified to post in a Cincinnati Bengals discussion thread. I didn't see anything in the title about Bengal fans only. It's a rivalry, that's half the fun. Do you think calling me a troll hurts my feelings?
January 14, 201015 yr Don't you live in Cincinnati? Or do you just enjoy being a troll in every thread you post in? Honey, relax! There was a time when the Bengals, couldn't win a game if they bribed every ref! You have to take the good with the bad. Anyway....how about the pro bowl?! I'm excited to watch all the Browns and Bengals players. Oh wait......
January 14, 201015 yr One of my favorite Enquirer headlines on a Monday morning following a Browns-Bengals game in 1972: BENGALS DEFENSE CONFUSES PHIPPS Oh, BTW, the Browns won something like 27-6!!
January 14, 201015 yr Hey, the Lions wouldn't be where they are today if it wasn't for the Portsmouth Spartans! Up too early...
January 14, 201015 yr Funny how NFL fans point to the "Ravens" relocation to Baltimore, and somehow fault the Browns "fans". Browns fans can't help the fact Art Modell was the scrooge himself, primarily upset with the fact that the city helped the Indians get out of that terrible lease with Modell and old Municipal stadium. Art was in fact, controlling both the baseball and football franchises in Cleveland, making money off of both. Had the city not built the new baseball stadium, the Indians probably would've relocated, instead of Art Modell's football franchise. The city planned on building him a new football stadium, but couldn't afford to build the R&R HOF, GLSM, Jacobs Field, and the Gund Arena (now the Q) concurrently. Something had to wait, and the biggest project (football stadium) was put on the shelf while the other smaller projects were worked.. Art decided that he couldn't wait anymore, that he couldn't make enough $$ on luxury boxes (old stadium only had 8 suites) in addition to being mad about not being able to control and make $$ on the Indians, so he sold his soul to Baltimore.. With all of that said.. The Cleveland Browns are the Cleveland Browns, and what makes them the Browns is not the owner, not the players, and not even the city, but the "Fans", fans in Cleveland, Ohio, and throughout the country. And, when they finally win "another" NFL championship, the banner will say "Cleveland Browns win 5th NFL Championship, and 9th Professional Football championship. It will not say, the "new" Cleveland Browns win the 1st NFL title, while the old one won.... Same goes with the next Hall of Fame inductee, when/if Josh Cribss is inducted as the greatest special teams player in the history of the NFL, he will be the 17th Cleveland Brown inducted into the HOF; not the 1st "New Brown" to be inducted... Now, getting back to the Bengals...
January 14, 201015 yr Anyway....how about the pro bowl?! I'm excited to watch all the Browns and Bengals players. Oh wait...... Ohhhh shiiiiiiiiiit!!!
January 16, 201015 yr Congrats to Marvin Lewis. It was a rollercoaster ride for the AFC North Champs. They have great foundation to build from. Lewis a deserving Coach of the Year But unlike most awards, this year's voting went deeper than standings and statistics. It was about tragedy and the ability to lead an entire organization through some of the toughest situations imaginable. To read more: http://espn.go.com/blog/afcnorth/post/_/id/8585/ap-chooses-tragedy-over-victories Meanwhile, the Cleveland Shitstains are still throwing the ball sideways. Bottom feeders for years to come. http://cdn2.sbnation.com/entry_photo_images/122073/50266_titans_browns_football.jpg
January 16, 201015 yr Overall I would say it was a good year for football in Cincinnati. How many cities in the country have their NFL team make the playoffs and their college team go to a BCS game in the same year (furthering my belief that we have one of the best mixes of pro/college sports around)? The post season results were clearly disappointing, but I would take this over many other alternatives. And the Bengals have been to 2 Super Bowls, which is what the big game is referred to in modern times. Generally, when your team is criticized by other fans it means they don't suck. Congrats to coach Lewis.
January 17, 201015 yr So, if a team wins a championship in 1964, that's not considered "modern". But, if a team wins a championship in 1967, that is considered "modern", got it.. With that said, how many "Championships" have the Bengals won in pre-modern, and modern times? Always remember, it's better to be a "has been", than a "never was".
January 17, 201015 yr Generally, when your team is criticized by other fans it means they don't suck. Congratulations then because that would make the Bengals the least sucky team in history!!
January 17, 201015 yr If "has been" fuels your tank, in a bygone era, a bygone world then enjoy it (aka not a Super Bowl). If your support of your team moves you to comment about another team enjoy that as well. Personally, I prefer to support the team I root for, and leave the smack for the so-called sports message boards. Oh, the protestation....absolute genius.... Generally, when your team is criticized by other fans it means they don't suck. Congratulations then because that would make the Bengals the least sucky team in history!!
January 17, 201015 yr "Bygone era", LMAO.. Just because the name of the game changed from "NFL Championship" to "Super Bowl", it's a "bygone era".. That means that the first four years (bygone era), of Dick Butkus' career doesn't count, but his last five years (modern) do count, got it.. Johnny Unitas' career doesn't mean squat (NFL Titles & Pro Bowls prior to 1967 are bogus), but half of Gale Sayers' does count because the game evolved so much in his 5.5 years in the league.. Anyway, since we can selectively cut out pieces of history and/or discount it or excuse it away; does that mean that the Civil War or WWII didn't occur, or really didn't mean anything, because they weren't "modern wars"? Using the same theory, Iraq's 2nd place finish (aka, #1 loser) in our modern war with them means, somehow more than U.S. victory in WWII, right?? Also, does that mean that other teams in other sports have won less championships than they actually have? Yankees really haven't won 27 World Series, because 20 of them were prior to 1964 (and 13 of them prior to the Browns winning their 1st "NFL" Championship"), so they've really only won 7? Baseball has evolved, fences moved in, mound raised, ball technology, bat technology, multiple divisional realignments. I suppose the Reds have really only won three Baseball championships, since the others are prior to 1964. Same goes with college football too right? Any Championships prior "X" or "Y" don't count, because, well, it's just convenient.. Ohio State should just scrap their four national championships prior to 1964 (1961 does not count, but 1968 does count) because Bengals fans say they weren't "modern enough", only the three after 1964 really count.
January 17, 201015 yr No one's arguing about history, we are (at least I am) just saying we'd rather have a good team to root for now than championships from the past to brag about.
January 17, 201015 yr Which proves the point, that as Bengals fans, your expectations are much lower!
January 17, 201015 yr Expectations are what I hope to happen in the future. Not what I care to reminisce about the past. This is kind of moot anyways, since the Browns past had to be fought about in a lawsuit, their history exists on a technicality.
January 17, 201015 yr The jealousy of Bengals fans of the Browns is beyond compulsive. As far as franchises moving, let's just say if/when the Bengals move to L.A. because they can't even sell out playoff games, the "Cincinnati" Bengals will never again exist. Unlike the Browns, the NFL felt it was their responsibility to immediately award another franchise to the city and fans of Cleveland, because they were wrongfully stripped by a greedy New Yorker. We'll just have to get used to saying the L.A. Bengals. As far as a competitive team, it's clear that the Browns are on the right path with Holmgren & Heckert. Let's come back to this discussion about competitiveness in 2-3 years Bengal fans. On the bright side, Bengal fans won't have to worry about losing another 1st round playoff game, because they won't be in any..

Hey, if you want to keep bragging about all the sports successes the Browns had in the 1960's, go right ahead. If that's the only accomplishment you can claim for your sports franchise, then that's pretty sad.
January 17, 201015 yr You guys are funny. You finally have a second winning season in something like 17 years, you have to get extensions on almost all of your home games because the only ones you can sell out are the Browns and Steelers, you easily have 5 wins that could have been losses; there is virtually no offense, you are coming off a 4-11-1 season, what do you think is going to be different next year? I think they have an amazing running game, but when the time comes to pass, they act like they've forgotton how. Maybe its just the play calling, but the last 2 games against the Jets were embarrassing. maybe you guys would be more appreciative of your history if you had any. Yes, 2 superbowls but both in years that something unexpected happened to the Browns. An amazing stat, all of those good teams the Bengals had in the late 80's, they could not put back-to-back winning seasons together. I think that says a lot.

January 17, 201015 yr This is ridiculous - the Bengals fans are so obsessed with the Browns that they felt the need to go to that board to give the fans crap about losing in the playoffs. Oh, I forgot, it was the other way around. I think about the Browns 2 days a year, period. Again, if that history makes you happy great, but try sharing it with people who care. I should clarify that I am not dismissing what happened in the past, but the fact remains when people today ask about success they are going to ask about the Super Bowl. For the Browns, they have not played in it.
January 18, 201015 yr Cleveland is one of five NFL teams that have yet to qualify for the Super Bowl. Furthermore, Cleveland has never hosted a Super Bowl, making it the only NFL city to have neither hosted nor sent a team to the Super Bowl This decade the Browns have been to the playoffs once. The Bengals have been twice. Since 1990, the Browns and Bengals have both been to the playoffs twice. The Bengals have been in two superbowls. Th Cleveland Browns ceased to exist for 3 years. You can say the Bengals have been shitty for the past few decades, but you can't claim the Browns have been any better. And at least Cincinnati never lost its NFL team...
January 18, 201015 yr You Bengal fans can get through this long cold winter knowing that by losing to the Jets the first time, it kept the Steelers out of the playoffs! The 2nd loss to the Jets is ok also, because maybe you can say "at least we lost to the Superbowl winners"!!

Word Okay, so it's apparent that 2nd place finishes 30 years ago outweigh Championships 40 years ago, I got it now.. With the Bengals having an outstanding year, going 6-0 in divisional play, surely the fans of Cincinnati must've awarded their team by taking the time to vote in a number of Bengal players into the AFC Pro Bowl.. How many did you guys get in, 5, 6?? No, wait, I think I remember, it was "ZERO" You didn't even get one player voted into the top 5 at his positon.
January 18, 201015 yr And at least Cincinnati never had lost its NFL team stolen away... We didn''t "lose" our team. Modell and Baltimore stole them. How can that possibly be an indictment against the fans or the City? The NFL recognized the great, great fanbase we have, as well as the injustice done by the move, and left the franchise - colors, record books, etc. What other City/fanbase has the NFL done that for? Houston (Oilers) - no. LA (Rams or Raiders) - no. Baltimore (Colts) - no.
January 18, 201015 yr Bengals fans also seem to forget that they (Cincinnati) only have an NFL team because of Modell. Modell lied, stole, and cheated his way into majority ownership of Paul Brown's Browns, which forced the Brown family out of Cleveland and down to Cincinnati. So the Bengals were born from Cleveland..
