This doesn't have to get ugly like it probably can.  I am happy the Browns won in the end.  The Bengals still have something to hang their hats on, TO really torched Cleveland and Palmer was on the money.  How much of that was Cleveland's fault can be debated but it may jumpstart Cincy's offense.

This is the Bengal's thread.  Let's not get too arrogant....we have to play them one more time in December.

The Bengals won't make the playoff's this year. Too tough of a schedule. Play calling is suspect every game, too many penalties. I see nothing that tells me the best is yet to come. The better teams has yet to come i know that's for sure.

Someone needs to be fire.

Well... because they played the Bengals this week.  Feel free to comment in the Browns thread if you like, you need not be a fan.  A little sore after the loss?

None of the comments have been out of line here, Ram, IMO.  Congrats to the Browns winning today...thats what happens when you allow two fumbles and get a blocked field goal.

Bright spot: We know the passing game can work.  Last week I was seriously doubting our offense and Carson Palmer's ability to play NFL football.  While 20 points isn't too much, the passing game definitely was improved.

We still have to play the Ravens, Steelers twice, Saints, Colts, Jets, and the Dolphins.  We absolutely NEEDED to win today.  However, all is not lost; if we can keep the passing game going like we had today, the defense like we had against Baltimore, shape up on the penalties, and convert more redzone touchdowns, this team could be dangerous.  I know that's a lot of ifs though...

Let's stick the Browns talk back in the Browns thread and move this thread along to the Bengals next opponent: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Marvin needs to be fired.

Marvin needs to be fired.

He should have been fired years ago IMO.  I'll be curious to see what the local media says this week.

Yeah, ok.  We suck.

Two horrible performances in a row.  This team just does not know how to take advantage of situations, and they are squarely behind the 8 ball.  Palmer is obviously one of the goats, but his wideouts didn't exactly help him on the last 2 interceptions.  Why can't this team stay focused?  The incessant false starts seem to be an indication of larger control issues.

I almost forgot - I have to give the Enquirer credit for their headline on a front-page blurb:  "Bengals melt down, choke and implode", which made me laugh out loud.

Bengals fall 42-35 Posted by jreedy October 24th, 2010, 4:20 pm

ATLANTA – After coming back from a 21-point deficit in the third quarter, the Bengals couldn’t stop the Falcons when they needed to the most.

Atlanta scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to defeat Cincinnati 42-35 at the Georgia Dome and dealing the Bengals (2-4) their third-straight loss.

They looked like the other Ohio team during the first half, and then started to look like the Bengals we've been used to during the second half.  That fumble by Benson was the turning point.  Without that, it'd probably be the same score, but with the Bengals on top.

That "other Ohio team" beat the NO Saints 30-17 today.  Not only that... but they also have the same amount of wins as the Bengals.

lol, that totally was not the score. Typical Enquirer...

^What a rag!

They looked like the other Ohio team during the first half

:speech: That other Ohio team led the Falcons at the end of the first half and has yet to get b!tch smacked out of the gate in a game this year, like this Ohio team has how many times this year?

No, they played better in the second half, you have it backwards.

who would've thought the bengals would be in last place of AFC North after week 8?

who would've thought the bengals would be in last place of AFC North after week 8?

Me! Me! Me!

Actually, not me.  I thought the Bengals would be competing for the top spot in our division.  I also did not expect those darn Steelers to be where they are at this point.

It's over, unless they run the table. That's like a 2% chance. They could lose out.

If you guys don't scoop up Randy Moss, I will be monumentally disappointed.  Ever heard the phrase "like a glove"?

^ Totally true.  A golden opportunity for the Bengals!

More about the Vikings waiving Randy Moss at the NFL: General News & Discussion thread.

But since this is the Bengals thread, lets focus on the players currently on the Bengals roster:

^hahaha

30-10 Steelers

That was a nail-biter. All for naught.

At least they made a game of it.

Special teams gave up 17 points.

I agree with what the guys on WEBN said this morning. Cut Marvin and give the job to Zimmer. It's highly unlikely that Brown would do that though but I think it would deliver a message.

Bungles are back full force.

We're getting to the point where fans are making haikus but not yet wearing bags over their heads in large numbers. Haiku time:

Oh my dear Bengals

Defeated by Fitzpatrick

You are dead to me

Palmer throws like girl

Chad has reality show

T.O. does not care

Since the bengals will have one of the top draft picks next year....who should they take?

It won't make much a difference, since they can't draft an owner.  That's the legacy of the Brown family for ya.

They should hopefully trade and try to get a two mid-first round picks instead of a top 5 pick.

i wish we would have gotten Michael Vick.

^^^I came here wondering the same thing.  Not talking trash... just curious.  I figure Buffalo is going to grab one of the qb's.... as might Carolina.  Detroit may take P Peterson.  I am hoping for R. Kerrigan for the Browns right now... but that will depend on what the teams in the top 5 do.

Might have to seriously consider taking one of those QB's...I'm sure there's more pressing needs.  Palmer just doesn't look the same as he used to.  Maybe Defensive line?

Probably D-line, but I've been watching every game and Palmer makes some mistakes, but (for instance this Sunday) more often than not it's miscommunication or star receivers not going all out.  Those things are most often coaching problems, which ultimately stem from ownership problems and Mike Brown's inability to let people who actually know what they're doing have control of the team.

Interior linemen or ends?  More of a focus on stopping the run or getting after the QB?

Well we definitely need help at safety, O line, D line, QB, kicker, head coach, offensive coordinator, owner....take your pick.

I wouldnt give up on the Lerners yet, and they have some deep pockets. And you still got to love Phil Dawson, even though he is having a little low period right now. And he definitely knows how to kick in Cleveland which can be difficult. This year he is 9 of 10 for 90 percent at home, while all the visiting kickers this year combined are 12 of 19 for 63 percent.

^huh?

hahahahhahahahahahaha holy sh!t I had the Cleveland Browns discussion open on another tab and thought that I was on that one. hahah thats hilarious. my bad

The thing that really perplexes me is that this team is largely the same group that won and swept the AFC North last year. Same QB, largely the same D with the addition of Atkins, Dunlap, and return of Odom, better collection of receivers, same running backs.  This year we're a 2 win team, last year we were a playoff team.  To me, when you have a situation like this you have to look at the coaching.  Bratkowski has been awful for years, and has no place being an NFL offensive coordinator.  He needs to go.  Marvin has done a pretty decent job with the Bengals over his tenure, and barring the injury to Palmer in 05 could have had created a powerhouse team. The 2008 season was pitiful, but many blamed that on Carson not playing because of the elbow injury.  There is no excuse this year...he has the talent (a few gaps exist, but that's the case in all teams), and the team flat out sucks. The buck has to stop somewhere, and honestly I don't see how Marvin can keep his job after this season.

It's been a painful ride being a Bengals fan, but no season has left me with the disgust I feel this year.  I don't even get upset when they lose close games anymore.  This team is a joke, and we need to completely reload and start over.  I hope the Lindners or some other big family can step in and make the organization respectable again, because it's just not gonna happen with Mike Brown.

I told a friend of mine who is a die hard bengals fan that they were going to be one of the leagues worst teams back in the preseason. He said no way with Palmer, Cinco, and TO. I said history repeats itself. The bengals suck after a good year. The bengals lose consistantly when Palmer throws for over 400yds. I'm suprised those 2 recievers can be on the same team. Chad Ochostinko may want traded to a team that can win so you may get a 3rd rounder out of him. Marvin lewis may want to resign.

Cleveland will be in the running to win the division next season. You bengal fans better get use to hearing the term we Browns fans heard for awhile.      "Rebuilding."

^C'mon, man.  There was a thread for that.  It didn't work out.

Cincy fans - any chance you take a look at AJ Greene?  How long is TO locked in?  Ochocinco?

Something everyone forgets about last year were all the close wins at the end of games.  They were calling them the Cardiac Cats.  Many of those games could have gone the other way.

It is very similar to 1981, when the Browns were coming off their kardiac Kids year of 1980.  They were picked by many to have the same success, but they fell flat on their faces.

Yeah, thats a good point DanB.  This year the Bengals are in virtually every game, and are just coming up on the short end rather than on top like last yr.
