Posted January 11, 201015 yr Anyone know of any Bars that I can take my dog to? I live in Lakewood, so the closer to Lakewood the better; but any dog-friendly bar(s) will do. Thanks!
January 11, 201015 yr The Sunset Grille on Whiskey Island is dog friendly but mostly because it is mainly outdoors. Obviously it is only open in the warmer months.
January 11, 201015 yr is Cincinnati very close to Lakewood? :-) http://www.soapboxmedia.com/features/1110dogabouttown.aspx
January 11, 201015 yr I am pretty sure the Barking Spider in University Circle is dog friendly - at least in the summer months.
January 11, 201015 yr There are many patio places that are dog friendly, but few if any that are indoor dog friendly. I previously found this on Metromix. It mentions some of the dog friendly patios, but also says the Garage Bar is always dog friendly, even inside. The owner of the Bier Market sometimes brings his dog to "work" there. Maybe you can check to see if others are welcome. EDIT: On Bar Cento Bier Market, from their listing: Pet Policy: Friendly dogs welcome in bar area and patio http://cleveland.metromix.com/restaurants/photogallery/dog-friendly-eateries/613825/content
January 11, 201015 yr Just out of curiosity, why would you want to take your dog to a bar/restaurant? Just asking, not making fun?
January 11, 201015 yr Why not? I would like to take my dog everywhere. He is extremely well mannered and wouldn't disturb anyone else. Not to mention it is a good socially for both my dog and myself.
January 11, 201015 yr I find dog owners curious. I have had a cat for 15 years who has been my best friend the whole time. I have taken her in the car with me for quick errands, but I would never take her into a store or a restaurant or bar, and she's really well behaved. All the dog owners I know seem to think it's great to take their dog wherever they would like. My SIL brought their 2 bulldogs into a catering hall for their wedding last year. The caterers were not pleased. And for someone who is allergic to dog hair (I am mildly, but I'm not talking about me), "disturb" is not limited to the manners of the animal. I've never seen anyone with their pet hamster at brunch, or their birdcage sitting under their table on a patio. Only dog owners seem to be this way and I can't fathom why.
January 11, 201015 yr My dog is hypoallergenic- no shedding, very good for people with dog hair allergies.. however if your allergic to their saliva (more rare) then there could be a problem. And I understand all dogs aren't this way... As for the reason dog owners act this way, part of it could be because both humans and dogs are pack animals, whereas the other animals you listed are not. This creates a unique bond between us and our dogs...
January 11, 201015 yr I've never seen anyone with their pet hamster at brunch, or their birdcage sitting under their table on a patio. LOL! I agree R&R, I find it curious as well.
January 11, 201015 yr Yes, but everyone else doesn't share your bond with your dog, and doesn't want to. My cat sleeps on my head. And now, next to my baby. But that doesn't mean I should bring her to dinner at a restaurant, just because we have a unique bond.
January 11, 201015 yr I love my pugs more than life itself but I would never bring them to a restaurant. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
January 11, 201015 yr I've never seen anyone with their pet hamster at brunch, or their birdcage sitting under their table on a patio. Only dog owners seem to be this way and I can't fathom why. My first job was bagging groceries at the local Rini-Rego's (anyone remember them?). An older, very well dressed lady came in with a cockatoo on her shoulder. Not like a pirate's parrot, on the top and looking forward. This clung to the front of her shoulder with it's head buried into the top her shoulder. We saw her walking around the store, and the bird was so still that we all thought she was wearing a stuffed bird as a decoration. It wasn't till she went to leave that I saw the bird move.
January 11, 201015 yr That is great about the bird. Rini-rego became just rego's of course, and though they are floundering badly, there is at least one store left AFAIK. I was shopping them heavily before they closed, first in westlake, then in river. They had a really wide variety of local and ohio-made foods, including baked goods from Corbo's, which was nice.
January 11, 201015 yr There was Rego's as well as Rini's and of course Rini-Rego's. I don't know the relationship between the three. Rini-Rego's were bought out by Giant Eagle. Sap, in summer I would think you could take them to any patio and if you get a rail seat they could stay just on the other side of the rail.
January 11, 201015 yr Thanks for all the suggestions. keep them coming. If anyone knows of a place that is KNOWN FOR being dog friendly, I would be really interested. There is a place called Brooklyn Ale House (Brooklyn, NY) that is known as being a "dog-bar". It was featured on one of Dave Attell's Insomniac Shows. That is a bit more of what I am looking for. I do not necessarily want to be the only one with a dog at the bar...
January 11, 201015 yr Down here in New Orleans, a good third of the bars are doggy friendly. Which is good because my dogs' owner is a drunk who likes to spend quality time with his dogs.
January 12, 201015 yr I find dog owners curious. I have had a cat for 15 years who has been my best friend the whole time. Not to turn this into a dog vs. cat thread, but... I find cat owners curious. You do realize that possibly the only reason your cat doesn't kill you (just for the fun of it) is because you are too big? I realize all cats are not the same, but house cats in general are perhaps the crulest animals on earth (even topping humans). Disclaimer: I have two (they came with the wife). One of my cats just wants to spend all day outside terrorizing anything that moves. He kills for fun. Rabits, chipmunks, baby squirells, mice, moles, birds. Not to channel Jodie Foster, but I hear the screams. Basically anything that moves and is small enough for him to overpower, he will maul. He doesn't eat them... just decorates our yard (and a few neighbors' yards) with the (often headless) carcasses. On the dog in bars issue, I used to take my dog (when he was a puppy) to a few bars when I lived in NC. Haven't found any up here, but not looking either. Now that he is all grown up, I have a 100 pound german shepherd and people tend to tighten up around him. I just leave him in the car and he is fine with that. While in LA, I was amazed at where I saw dogs. People take them everywhere.
January 12, 201015 yr LOL, that's probably true, but at 15, my kitty lost her killer instinct years ago. I too was amazed how everyone takes their dogs everywhere in LA. Grocery, etc.
January 13, 201015 yr Thanks to Paris Hilton we have to put up with Chihuaua's in every other Starbucks. They are dogs people--they don't belong in food and beverage establishments! If I had a nickel for every dog owner that called their dog "hypoallergenic," only to have my allergies go insane around them. Please don't construe me as anti-dog. I own a beautiful yellow lab--but I tie him up outside of the restaurant or bar....
January 13, 201015 yr I have taken my airedale(s) to the 5 o'clock lounge on multiple occasions; they chill in a booth or just hang by me at the bar. Everyone loves them.
January 13, 201015 yr My dog is hypoallergenic- no shedding, very good for people with dog hair allergies.. however if your allergic to their saliva (more rare) then there could be a problem. And I understand all dogs aren't this way... actually that is a common misconception, most people are allergic to pet dander, which is pet skin flakes+saliva, not the pet hair, so all cats/dogs can get to you: "contrary to popular belief, dog hair is not what makes you feel miserable - just like with cats, it is their dander that gets to you. For some allergy sufferers, a dog's lick may also set off an allergic response. Because dogs tend to scratch themselves more than cats, dog allergen can be more easily introduced into the air." http://www.allergybegone.com/aboutpetdander.html

[evil eye to you know who] LOL (Bitch, you know I love ya) LOL I'm allergic to pet dander. My eyes swell up and my throat closes up. Besides, I dont like animals, if I wanted a pet, I'd find a boyfriend! Yes, but everyone else doesn't share your bond with your dog, and doesn't want to. My cat sleeps on my head.
