Posted January 14, 201015 yr Mount Auburn Cemetery, in Watertown and Cambridge, Massachusetts, is well known as "America's first garden cemetery" and is part of the inspiration for many other places, such as Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati. Founded in 1831, it is designated a National Historic Landmark. Some people here are probably familiar with it, and probably more so than I am. Otherwise, check out the Wikipedia article. It is a beautiful place for an autumn stroll. Here are a few photos from one day back in October. (I'll have to work up the energy to visit on some day after a nice snowfall, too.) This lookout tower on a hill in the middle of the cemetery affords excellent views of Boston and the surrounding area. To close, a panoramic view from the tower. Click to enlarge.
January 14, 201015 yr Superb! The trolley buses that take you there must have made you feel right at home.

January 16, 201015 yr Beautiful. In my teens I was caretaker for a cemetery at a country church near my home. The people buried there were, for the most part, hard-working farmers whose families didn't have money for elaborate monuments, but just following the visible histories of families and reading the inscriptions dating back into the 1800s created a long-term fascination.
January 20, 201015 yr Interesting subject matter. Great colors. Beautiful. In my teens I was caretaker for a cemetery at a country church near my home. The people buried there were, for the most part, hard-working farmers whose families didn't have money for elaborate monuments, but just following the visible histories of families and reading the inscriptions dating back into the 1800s created a long-term fascination. Ahhh...another piece of the "dont f*ck with Bobby, I'm "sweet and innocent"" puzzle! ;D
