May 3, 20214 yr This was another stunner and a fantastic get by the Browns as a UDFA. If Wilson had declared for the 2020 draft, many had him ranked as a possible first or second rounder. On 24/7’s composite rankings, he had a higher rank after the 2019 season than Chase Young and Jeff Okudah. Instead, he stayed at FSU and had a bad 2020 season. Wilson followed with a sub-par senior bowl and pro day performances. I've seen reports that he struggled with an recurring injury and has been a knucklehead/partier. He completely fell off everyone's radar. If he can get with the Browns training staff, get a minder to help him grow up and be coached up, this could be one of those UDFAs who makes a name for himself in the NFL. And Andrew Berry grabbed him with little downside. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

Any given Monday, a favorite can lose, and if you play a bunch of close games, you aren't likely to come out on top of all of them. 13-4 doesn't mean saying which specific four teams will beat us (think of the perfect storm of woe that resulted in our loss to the NY Jets). It means saying that we're good enough to beat anyone but not good enough to run the table, given the inevitable ups and downs of any given season.
May 14, 20214 yr I also have them going 12-5 to even 14-3. I think it's going to take the defense some time to gel but when they do I expect them to be very good. For that reason, I don't expect them to beat KC in week 1. I also think there's going to be a surprise loss in there, like losing to Chicago or Minnesota, meaning the Browns start the season 2-2. Certain fans will panic and call for Joe Woods' head. But Stefanski's cooler head prevails and the Browns D figures out how to work well with each other. The D will play much better in the second half of the season. I think we'll lose one to Baltimore. And if Aaron Rodgers stays with the Packers, I think the Browns might lose to GB on the road. If Rodgers goes elsewhere, Browns should win that one. There's a possibility that if the Browns have won the division before they play Cincy in the final game, that the Brown sit a number of starters including oft-injured defensive backs. If so, and if Burrow is still alive and playing, I think he wins that game for Cincy. His last five seasons they played 14 regular season games. I still remember prior to the implementation of the 16-game schedule, they used to play 6 preseason games. As for some teams having 9 home games, half of the league will have 9 home games and the other half will have that total next season.

The deal includes $20 million fully guaranteed. Josina Anderson first reported it was close, and sources told cleveland.com they’ve closing in on it for about three days. They had a negative point differential last year and their expected W/L was 8-8. Also bottom half of the league (per football outsiders) in DVOA. I see a big regression. September 13, 20213 yr Welp that was the first L. But it was a hard fought game lost by the Browns due to mistakes of young players. I'm almost glad they did lose a close game as the post season will almost certainly include a rematch with the Chiefs.
September 13, 20213 yr Looks like the Browns have the talent to compete with the best in the NFL. We've just gotta learn to "close" out on the road against an elite team in hostile conditions. The Chiefs were a very tough test, top of the food chain in the AFC, so, despite the loss, I'm still very encouraged after week one. Without giving the ball back to the champs 3 times in the 2nd half, we might have prevailed today. If we can stay healthy, learn not to make the big mistakes - this is a team that could make it to the AFC Championship. But if we do go that far and KC is the opponent, having home field advantage could well be critical. Every win we can get during this long season is going to be necessary.

September 13, 20213 yr The Browns are VERY good. They controlled that game....pretty much did what they wanted on offense. Three plays: 1.) chubb fumble 2.) gilliam botch 3.) Mahomes wizardry on our most expensive DB signing. Those are all correctable. Browns will be very solid. They have a recipe to beat that team. Chefs will be counter prepared next time. My lone area of frustration (again, not even that upset)...i think Baker is at the point in his career where we should expect him to get that touchdown at the end. The INT was bad, he may have been trying to airmail it but got tangled up. He played a great game, but its time to win that game. He did it against Cincy last year...time to make it part of your game Two winnable games coming up at home.
September 14, 20213 yr The Browns played 3 great quarters. I think they lost focus in the last one- maybe they started to think that had that "statement" win they were looking for in the bag, and they got sloppy. I think they were saying on 92.3 that the interception was Baker trying to throw it out of bounds and he got contacted a little and it dropped short, right into the Chief's possession. He played a great game, otherwise. I'd like to see him create more clutch plays at this point in his progression. But even then, when you expect a QB to be a 4th quarter hero, interceptions are the risk you run.

September 14, 20213 yr Anyone else think that even if Jamie punts the ball 70 yards, that Mahomes & Co. still would've just waltzed down the field and scored anyhow? Will be very interesting to see how the team plays this weekend.

It was the fumble and the backyard play that were the Browns doom.
September 16, 20213 yr Interesting chart. The Browns have gone from one of the least stable teams at the quarterback position to one of the most stable.... "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
September 19, 20213 yr A deserved win, but they had a lot of help. Houston's coach made Hue look like Belichick a couple times, Interesting how on the facemask on Houston's final drive, no replay was shown. Usually that means the network is covering for the league not making those reviewable.
September 20, 20213 yr Glad we got a W, but man, do I have to keep reminding myself to be patient with this new D. Anybody else wondering if Garrett has lost a step from Covid that he'll never get back? Edit- love the addition of Felton to this team!

So far, Clowney has outplayed him. Perhaps he'll start getting double-teamed and Garrett will get a chance to regain himself. Need to see more of Grant Delpit and JOK. They had a few great plays. But the whole defense needs time to gel. Anyone see Greedy play much yesterday?? Baker toughed it out yesterday. I told my wife Baker played with a dislocated shoulder. She apologizes for soccer players faking injuries and says football players wouldn't play hurt. She asked how could Baker play hurt. I said it wasn't his throwing shoulder and they popped it back in. She shuddered visibly and stood in disbelief. Football players play hurt, if they can. So here comes the Odell show this week. He will fill in well for his buddy Jarvis. Garrett and Clowney didn't even play a down in any exhibition games. Not being critical of that, especially since what happened to Baltimore's Dobbins. Sometimes it takes action live-game experience to help a unit come together, even more so when so much turnover happened on the defense.
