December 21, 20213 yr Ugh. This is the second time this season at least that I have seen us blow a late fourth quarter lead because we couldn’t get a single first down to ice the game. Three-and-out on ultra-conservative play-calling and the other team gets the win on their final drive.
December 21, 20213 yr Lots of dropped passes, and another missed kick. How many games have we lost this season now because of a missed field goal? Get this guy on the first bus out of town TONITE..

Couldn't the Browns try something different to fool them? I suppose they didn't want their 3rd string QB running, but on 3rd down, maybe Mullens should have kept the ball and ran left with everyone thinking Chubb was going right. They only needed 3 yards. December 25, 20213 yr New kicker, same story. Good grief. They should just go for 2 points should they score again.
December 26, 20213 yr Baker threw 4 INTs and still took a potential Super Bowl team to the final minutes. I'm still optimistic about the proverbial "next year" in Browns town.

January 4, 20223 yr Well that couldn't have been much worse. I was hoping the Browns could dash the Steelers playoff hopes. Instead they laid a huge turd filled with sacks.
January 4, 20223 yr Saw lots of open receivers. Dude is just bad. Go get Deshaun Watson. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

January 4, 20223 yr It was a bad idea for Baker to continue playing while hurt. But apparently his ego is more important than the success of the team.

Do you even want him in our city? The day Watson joins the Browns I stop being a fan.
January 4, 20223 yr Baker deserves some loyalty IMO after he has given us loyalty. Let him get healthy and see what happens next year. Getting rid of him would only lead us back to the neverending QB carousel. Same with Stefanski. Getting rid of him would bring us back to the era of new coaches every year. Chalk this year up to a sophomore slump and see what we can fix for next year. Edited January 4, 20223 yr by mu2010
January 4, 20223 yr ^ agree sort of. beyond questionable skills, especially under fire, i am concerned his injury will remain nagging. cut and run now may be a better option. if they keep him that is ok though, you can't help but like his gung ho. i just dont want the browns stuck with some dumb contract, which seems likely.
January 4, 20223 yr Either Baker played with such a severe injury that he could not win us very winnable games, and the injury affected his ability to read basic coverage, in which case Stefanski has a lot of explaining to do, or he just isnt good enough. What is his record when we have the ball at the end of the game with chance to win, 1-12?

January 4, 20223 yr yeah thats the big ugly stat, was it at all injury related, or is it just baker is the issue. obviously it was both, but seems more so the latter. that might be unfair, but so does that warrant a big contract for him? i dont think so. might as well gamble on a healthy, cheap young guy and let keenum be the vet and play more.
January 4, 20223 yr it seems the browns will pick in the middle and pickins are not too great for qb anyway, but you never know. Pick 12 Biggest needs: DT, LB, S Week 18 opponent: vs. Bengals CG: The Browns are the only team in the AFC this week with a defensive position for all three top needs. Wide receiver is a concern, to be sure, but it's not a difficult position to reinforce, and Cleveland is well-set elsewhere on offense. https://www.nfl.com/news/2022-nfl-draft-order-eagles-set-to-be-first-playoff-team-to-make-three-first-rou

We are pretty solid at LB and S. Needs to be shored up a little but definitely not like WR, DT, or even DE (if Clowney leaves).
January 4, 20223 yr Good decision. Boo birds would have been brutal. https://www.news5cleveland.com/sports/browns/cleveland-browns-quarterback-baker-mayfield-wont-play-season-finale-against-bengals
January 4, 20223 yr Honestly, I don't understand why they didn't do that for yesterday's game. The season was over- pull Baker, get his surgery done, and give him the best shot at being recovered and ready to play next year. We can talk about who we'd like to replace him, but there really aren't a ton of great options out there. He'll almost certainly be our starting quarterback next year.

Boo birds would have been brutal. https://www.news5cleveland.com/sports/browns/cleveland-browns-quarterback-baker-mayfield-wont-play-season-finale-against-bengals If Kansas City wins Saturday, the Bengals probably won't play many starters against the Browns. So the NFL removed a preseason game and added a 17th regular season game... and this 17th game will feature a bunch of backups and effectively have as much importance as a preseason game.
January 4, 20223 yr It almost seems like Freddie Kitchens lost 150 pounds, was back on the sidelines and doing press conferences. This season was basically a repeat of 2019. Over-confidence based upon the success of the previous season. Questionable play calling by head coach over and over again with repeated calls to give up play calling duties to the offensive coordinator. Undisciplined players making repeated boneheaded plays where they cannot line up correctly or commit stupid unsportsmanlike conduct/unnecessary roughness penalties. Disgruntled players orchestrating release from team. When things go south, players check out. Sounds familiar, doesn't it.

The Texans were a bigger mess than the Browns this year and how much playing time did he get?
January 4, 20223 yr I would much rather have the Browns lose every single game than have a QB who has been accused by 22 women of sexual assault, sexual misconduct, you name it. I hope in this day and age that we would know that 22 women should be trusted over 1 man and that any man guilty of what Watson has been accused of should never be in the NFL again.

January 6, 20223 yr He put some real zip on that ball! I do think that the anti-Baker rhetoric has gotten a bit over the top. He's not as bad as these last two games. Unfortunately, these last two games make it seem unlikely that he's really as good as the last half of last season, either. If we can get a clear upgrade (but not Deshaun Watson), then I'm all for it. I just think it's unlikely to happen. Not because Baker's so great, but because there aren't a lot of great quarterbacks out there, and even fewer of them on the market. And to listen to the draft talk, there's none there.

There has been some serious questioning on the play-calling and personnel on the field throughout the season. There have been many ultra-conservative calls made leading to the team not being able to convert crucial first downs to run out the clock. Quite a few "going for it on 4th down" calls where ultimately a short field goal is not called, the first down/touchdown doesn't happen and it meant a big difference late in the game. I would also like to see how some of these so-called experts can manipulate a narrative on conservative play-calling or personnel when Mayfield didn't even appear in some of the games. The next thing that will be brought up that if Watson won't be available (due to pending legal actions, league suspension or incarceration), is that the Browns should go after somebody like Cam Newton (NO WAY on that individual). This and field goal kicking. Baker is taking the heat here, quite possibly with some justification even taking his injury into account--but we'll never really know how many games we could have won with a better kicker, which would change people's opinions of Baker, too. Not just the games that we lost by less than 3, but others that were close that would have had changed dynamics in later quarters if we had 3 more points on the scoreboard.
