That's fine that Haslam wants a better QB -- but hopefully he can be convinced that that's not Watson.

We all do.   We want 2020 Baker before he was hurt.   Let's give the kid a chance on the last year of his contract.

The optics are really depressing. I mean, just think of how excited everyone was for this last season? I had not seen that level of positive interest in the team since the 80's. Crazy how a generation of fans has been so let down.

injuries, underperformance, continual bizarre on the field decision-making....all the way down to cutting our sexy punter!

What a nightmare.

That was his best year and he was 15th in rating and 30th in completion %. He’s 27 and he hasn’t improved over his rookie year. He’s bad.

Bad enough Browns fans STILL glorify Jim Brown. We don't need another violent scumbag representing the team.

They were 40-1. Vegas always knows something...

Maybe they see that we have a new stud receiver and other personnel changes that have actually happened, not that we might maybe bring in a talented but flawed character QB. (If you look at the list of QBs who took teams to the Super Bowl, there are some surprisingly mediocre QBs -- we don't need Mayfield to be Tom Brady to get to the Super Bowl.)

Browns just cleared a ton of cap space for....something.

This may cost the Browns one on their two prized running backs.

My college roommate - who's now a scout for the Bears - says the Browns go to 10 to 1 favorites if they sign Deshaun

Not worth it. Keep that sicko away.

Some crazy rumors about what the Browns would trade for Deshaun, including three first-round picks, a second-round pick, Denzel Ward, Kareem Hunt and our first-born.

I've also heard two first-round picks from the Browns to Texas, Baker to the Colts, Colts send first-round to Texas, and additional picks/players from Browns to Texas.

This is looking like a really expensive trade.  Jared Goff went to the Super Bowl -- Mayfield might not be the guy, but we don't need Watson at that price.

By dealing for Cooper and releasing Landry, they still took on a bigger salary cap hit than they lost by getting rid of Landry by about $3 million.  When Njoku got the franchise tag, between him and Hooper, those two alone were going to earn over $24 million as tight ends.  Hooper was a major disappointment in his two years here and not worth in excess of $13 million.  JC Tretter was rumored to be a cap casualty for many months, going back to before the start of last season.  Landry was also expected to be a cap casualty before the start of last season as well.  Based upon Hooper's lack of production and the franchising of Njoku, none of these moves should come as a surprise.

I’ve heard two firsts and a second. No players

Wherever Watson ends up next season, he will win zero games for his team for the games that he sits out suspended.  Ben Roethlisberger was suspended in 2010 initially for six games, eventually reduced to four games, for his misconduct.  This was during the time when the league dealt out less severe punishments and Watson is facing significantly more in allegations.  It would not be surprising to see a much harsher suspension handed out in his case.

If they get Watson, Brokaw might as well fire up the QB mannequin again.   Baker has played his heart out for this team.  Give him one more year to see if he can lead them to glory.

Look for time-served for Watson, plus maybe four games.

Mayfield is a mediocre, sometimes good/sometimes awful QB even when healthy. With the quality of competition in the AFC, Browns need more from their QB than what Mayfield can deliver.

ESPN is reporting Watson has informed the Browns he is not Interested.

Super relieved.  But wow, did we do a lot of damage even without acquiring Watson.  It's certainly sullied my impression of the ownership and management of this team.  And w'e've probably lost Mayfield, without finding his replacement.  He may not be the answer, but he is going to be hard to replace.  Maybe Watson will end up in Atlanta, and we can get Flynn for a couple years while we find someone in the draft.

Oh, c'mon.  Mayfield is no Brady, but #107, Jared Goff, took the Rams to the Super Bowl -- #101 can get us there if he has the pieces around him.

And if you think these rankings are that significant, #26 is available (and should be cheap).

I'd certainly like to see some improved play over this past year, but Mayfield's still young, and the last thing the Browns need is more turnover at QB.  Let's improve the O-line and add another stud receiver and running back and let's see what a healthy Mayfield can do.

You know there's an immensely talented WR still available.

Antonio Brown.

92.3 was talking about Kaepernick the other day.  Some current NFL wide receiver said he's been working out/practicing with him and he's still looking sharp.  The hosts said that maybe the Browns should bring him in and at least take a look.  I'd be game to see the Browns at least try him out.

For what it's worth Carr is #33 on that list- and Garoppolo #10.

A big NO to Kaepernick.  He gave the NFL the finger in Atlanta a couple years ago.

I believe it was Tyler Locket

I don't disagree re Kaepernick, but should he join the team would be very noisy.  But would also make for a great story if he's successful.   I somehow doubt Jimmy Haslam would be down with the social justice points though....

I like Baker -- despite his obvious deficiencies I think he's good enough to stick with, but I really shake my head at the idea that Watson is an acceptable improvement but Kaepernick is not.

I don't like Baker. He's a mental midget. Probably why he can't achieve success late in games. Here's another one, in comparison to the latest QB the Browns will go after...

This is a pathetic debacle, but I can't say the Browns don't deserve it.

I'm no expert but going after Watson seemed moronic. I agree with those who wanted see what he could do this coming season and then decide.

Met with Watson for THREE HOURS and it comes out that he didn't want to play in the cold.  It isn't like some sort of major climatic shift happened in the last few months or overnight that would have made Cleveland a cold-weather city with an open air stadium.  Watson just wanted to be the center of attention.

As for what has come out regarding his reprehensible and gross actions, some people call Mayfield immature and a "mental midget".  What terms can be used to describe Watson and the actions that he did?  Watson should end up on a registry and be forced to report where he lives to the police.  Read the Sports Illustrated piece on him.  I couldn't finish it due to the seriously twisted things mentioned.

It's possible that Watson is a monster AND Mayfield is kind of dumb and a bad quarterback. They're not mutually exclusive. Mayfield has been a below average quarterback, even in his "good" years, by almost any commonly accepted metrics.

The letter shows Baker’s emotional fragility. I’ve said the same about Mayfield during the season- we had to make the choice to believe that OBJ was running the wrong routes or that he wasn’t. If he wasn’t, and Baker was choosing to not throw him the ball because of “chemistry”, then that’s just immaturity if OBJ was one of the teams potent weapons.

Let’s say we keep Baker and he has “chemistry” issues all over again with our new pricey WR?  The team should just move on.

Now they have to dust off that shameful jersey with all the QB names on back.

OBJ is unquestionably a headcase, and I can't blame Baker for sending a nuanced goodbye message when it was clear Haslem tried to toss him for a serial sexual offender/rapist. I'd be ticked off too and want to see the boss grovel.

It's just business

Baker is most definitely emotionally fragile.

And FWIW I don't think Baker from 2019 would write that post. I think it would've motivated him. Last year destroyed his confidence, in my opinion, and I think the letter reflects his insecurity.

Cleveland Browns fans who were livid about the Deshaun Watson pursuit are still disappointed it happened

By Doug Lesmerises, cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Angel Padillo is a 36-year-old lifelong Browns fan and Cleveland native who moved to South Carolina last year. She’s also a licensed massage therapist, and had the Browns traded for quarterback Deshaun Watson, her Browns fandom may have ended.

“My fandom is pretty much just a part of my personality at this point in my life,” Padillo wrote in an email before Watson on Thursday eliminated the Browns from trade contention. “Anybody who knows me knows without a doubt I am a Browns fan usually within a short time of meeting me. I love football, and I love my Brownies.

The whole situation where OBJ was griping about not getting the ball was a load of B.S.  OBJ did whatever he wanted when he wanted.  He did it with the Browns and did it with the Giants.  That is why the Giants were done with him.  When any quarterback expects the receiver to be in a certain spot on the field and the receiver, even though he might be wide open, but is nowhere near that expected spot and is  many yards away, he won't get the pass.  For those so-called experts (if they are so smart, why aren't they coaching), it is really easy to call things out from above when they don't have 300-pound linemen looking to pound them into the turf, but it is quite a bit different when scrambling on the field.  To further expand on OBJ's motivation, he was laying the groundwork on his exit from the Browns a year ago when he was telling potential free agents to not sign here as he was planning his own exit strategy.

It is interesting that when OBJ had the success with the Rams, it was when he was no longer the #1 receiver, played the role as a #2 receiver and ran the routes he was expected to run.  Now after having the same knee blow out twice in slightly more than a year and the second time it was due to a non-contact situation, what kind of a receiver will OBJ be?  Due to the timing of the injury, the "best" expected time to return may be at the end of the 2022 regular season at the earliest.  One has to wonder how many times will he plant a his foot and/or attempt to make a cut before the knee goes out again.  Will he accept what may be a diminished role or will he be complaining about not getting targeted all over again?

Edited by LifeLongClevelander

^Doesn't matter regarding what condition OBJ is in now... IF he was actually running the right routes, and IF Baker was deciding to not throw him the ball ON PURPOSE because of some "chemistry" issue between them, then that's just Baker's immaturity showing.  And regardless of if he's the number two option in LA, he was one of this teams potential weapons and underutilized at best.  The video which led to his leaving only highlighted that in an uncomfortable way.  If the fan who was wondering why Baker wasn't throwing the ball to OBJ never put the video out and OBJ was still on the team, how many more receptions would OBJ have had?  Probably not that many, regardless of how many times he would be open.  And again, IF he was actually running the right routes, who does the blame fall on?  We're left to guess on who to believe- either the people who back Baker or OBJ, on if the right routes were ran or not.  That is unless someone in the public has access to the Brown's playbook and could confirm if the right routes were being ran by OBJ or not.

If not, that's completely on Baker.  I don't care about "chemistry"- I care about winning.  And if there's an open receiver who isn't getting the ball game after game, that falls on Baker especially of it's play-action pass.
