Imagine what Belichik could have done with that 2000's Ray Lewis Ravens teams...and would Brady have ever been...Brady?

But Belichick only had one winning season during his tenure with the Browns.

Belichick inherited a old team.  It was filled with fan favorites where many of them were past their prime and nearing retirement.  Due to the poor decisions of Marty Schottenheimer by basically thinking an offensive line could be built with low round draft picks and journeyman, Bernie Kosar paid the price.  He still had a good football mind, but his body took a beating.  The success of the late 1980's was due to draft picks drafted years earlier (Clay Matthews, Hanford Dixon, Ozzie Newsome), the USFL dispersal draft (Frank Minnifield, Mike Jackson, Dan Fike, Sam Clancy, Kevin Mack), supplemental draft (Kosar), veteran pickups (Bubba Baker, Carl Hairston, Matt Bahr, Bob Golic) and draft picks (Webster Slaughter, Brian Brennan, Mike Baab).  By the time Belichick took over, it was basically a team in need of rebuilding.

He did a good job or of building it. He developed Michael Dean Perry, and a few other key guys to make them a playoff contender pretty early. They had Ray Lewis and Jonathan Odgen scouted and were planning on drafting them even before they announced the move. The late 90s browns would have been a juggernaut if they stayed.

Michael Dean Perry was already in his fourth year with the Browns by the time that Belicheck took over head coaching.  The last "hurrah" of the late 1980's run was in 1989 when they made it to the AFC Championship game under Bud Carson.  In 1990, age caught up with the team and they fell apart.  Carson was fired halfway through that season.

CLEVELAND -- NBA star Donovan Mitchell was just getting settled in his new digs in Cleveland when a direct message on Instagram caught his eye.

It was a note from Cincinnati Bengalsquarterback Joe Burrow welcoming Mitchell to Cleveland. Since the two didn't follow each other on Instagram at the time, Mitchell isn't even sure how he saw the message. But he knew how he felt when he did.

"For me to get that, it was a great welcome to the city and it shows how much Cleveland loves their sports," Mitchell, who was traded from Utah last month, told ESPN. "He was a Cleveland fan growing up, and to still reach out even though he's in Cincinnati, still reaching out, I'm excited to be a part of that. I think that was pretty dope."

Hmm, definitely more college territory. I didn't hear much talk about the NBA when I lived there since everything seemed to be oriented around college. According to maps it's the Pacers, continuing some Cincinnatians strange obsession with Indianapolis.

So the question is, is there something alcoholic in those cups?  :)

i wondered about that -- makes sense.

and its funny as its totally the opposite of nyc where there isnt a peep of news and nobody knows a thing about college sports at all, much less hoops ... until march madness, then suddenly everyone is a freakin instant bracket expert lol.

Guys - Kevin Stefanski has the NFL's 6th best offense with a backup QB and a patchwork OL. I'll give you more thoughts during the bye week - but this is the hill I'm dying thriving on - he's our guy long term.

I hear you. I'm looking forward to seeing the defense we saw toward the end of last year. Hopefully that Cincinnati game was a indication of things to come rather than a one-off.

Welp…. Exactly what I suspected, The Bengals are The Bengals and The Browns are still The Browns lol. I laughed when I read about so many Cleveland fans jumping for joy after the Cincy game, Cincy has been an inconsistent mess all season and has critical injuries including star receiver JaMar Chase so beating them didn’t mean much at all. After this Miami game it show’s I was right.

Early forecast for Browns vs Bills this Sunday in Buffalo...

And

Bills game moved to Detroit due to lake effect snow.

If you ever think we have urban problems related to suburban flight in Cleveland then chill out and look at Buffalo. Suburban open air NFL stadium surrounded by nothing but asphalt in the snowiest city in the country, their main University out in the suburbs too.

Cleveland is Manhattan compared to Buffalo.

^ But their downtown waterfront is nicer than Cleveland.

10 minutes ago, LibertyBlvd said:

Definitely true. Though their downtown is absolutely nowhere near what Cleveland's is. Irish town bend and the Scranton Peninsula will definitely go a ways to levelling the waterfront playing field.

Welp I just booked a hotel in Detroit for the game, hopefully tickets are like they usually are in these events - first come first serve, we shall see! Go Bills!

And they've done a bunch to prop up their Canalside area (near the Sullivans) and historically have had their industries more segregated to specific parts of town vs the entire lakefront. They've managed to put bike infrastructure in on the Niagara and on the Lake which is pretty nice compared to what we currently have.

Only on UrbanOhio does a football team discussion devolve into a study of urban land use policies and practices.

I'm bummed. I so wanted to see a snowy football game. And not just because it's fun, but because it would level the playing field between the Browns and Bills. Josh Allen is going to light up the Browns like a pinball machine in a dome.

Wnen was the last time you've visited Buffalo?    There are thriving neighborhoods.  Check out Elmwood Village.  Allentown.  Hertel Ave.  Parkside.  And Buffalo still has it's millionare row.

And  FYI Buffalo State and UB both have campuses in Buffalo.   I think you're referring to UB North Campus, which would be the equivalent of a huge university in Parma.

Back to the Browns!

I was watching Buffalo local news this morning and they were bemoaning the same thing--most of the Bills live in and around Orchard Park where the stadium is.   Their snowfall total is near 5 feet.

How on earth could the Bills and NFL go through the trouble fo moving the game, but not immediately start moving all the staff, equipment and players?  Someone seriously "fumbled" the ball!

As far as I know only one other Bills game has been postponed due to snow (Bills Jets 2014)    Far more games in the south have been postponed due to hurricanes.

Besides, even if they had a roof, they still wouldn't be playing due to the road closures in the area.

A must-win to keep playoff hopes alive today, though I’ve pretty much lost faith in our Joe Woods led defense. Hoping that we’re 4-6 after the game.

I've thus far avoided but must now ask, did anyone get fired this evening?

This team is too stacked with talent to be getting blown out.   I can see losing some close ones, but it's like they give up after the first quarter.

The defense put out another poor performance.  For all of the high-priced players and high draft picks, one wouldn't know it based upon the results.  Each and every week they have made poor rushing teams or average at best running backs look like a bunch of stars.  As for the play calling, it was another week of awful play calling.  Needing two scores at the start of the 4th quarter, there seemed to be no urgency.  Then, later in the 4th quarter they were trying time-consuming rushing plays or short passes when they needed to get down the field quickly.  They eventually started to have some bigger gains, but by then a lot of time was used up.

My favorite plays were the 3rd and 4th down sneaks by Brissett resulting in a turnover on downs.   Well done for a team with Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt behind him.

No consistency or logic in the play calling and with the players on the field.  How often have we seen Chubb not on the field in crucial situations, yet today he had few nice receptions and runs after the catch.  Anytime Chubb gets the ball, he can make special things happen, but he is so under-utilized.  This is nothing new.  Having certain personnel on the field and their usage has been questioned in the past.  One thing is very consistent:  the same tired old post-game excuses.

Except for today, a huge majority of the times Brissett did the quarterback sneak, he got the yardage and we got the first down. In fact I can’t remember a game before today where the ball was turned over on downs after the quarterback sneak failed. Today it failed twice.

Woods has gotta go- but at this point, I don’t know what good it would do to get rid of him with seven games left. The whole team will be evaluated from here on out- coaches included- until the end of the season.

It saddened me to see the pic of Garrett sitting on the bench alone while the entire team was on the field after the game. I hope he doesn’t seek a trade- he’s one of the best players in the entire league and I hope he retires a Brown.  He wants to win. We all want them to win. It’s just one thing or another with this team, every year.
