During the Kardiac Kids season, the Browns lost to the Vikings via a Hail Mary.

This season, it didn't happen that way vs. the Bears.

Yeah, I remember that.  It was Ahmad Rashad making the one hand catch.  In Minnesota, that game is known as "Miracle at the Met".

Nevermind the Watson moral/morale disaster and Chubb's deflating injury, but are Browns fans not excited about the team?

I thought the games tend to have high ratings and good merch sales.

I've been to 5 home games, and the last 2 were the worst attendance of the season (in terms of seats occupied).

I know colder weather can do that... but that's usually not the case with Browns games.... and the tickets are being sold... it's just a matter of fans coming.

So assume week 18, Browns are in as a wildcard. Bengals need a win to get in. Do you rest your players? Does seeding in the wildcard round really matter much?

I know I do not fear Miami or KC at this point. AFC South is up in the air, no team there seems scary. Only team I would not want to play right now is Baltimore.

If Browns win against the Texans, they may be playing for the Division week 18.

Ravens look very good right now, but have the 49ers and Dolphins coming up - those are 2 teams that could very well beat the Birds.

Browns own the tiebreaker.

That's what the Browns have to be focused on until it's no longer mathematically possible.

i was wondering about this but didnt know where to find that information. Jacksonville really blew last night, i thought they would bounce back and win that game

The Browns already beat them the last time they played and that was before a presumably highly motivated Joe Flacco came on board.

how bout them browns?

errbody scored.

i thought all the 2pt attempts were rather unusual.

not sure what to think about that tact.

Kicker pulled his hamstring trying to chase down the returner on the kickoff touchdown return. (I wondered the same thing and looked it up.)

When is the last time I-71 turned a profit?

Not only were the Browns up 36-7 in the 4th after losing their placekicker just a few minutes into the game, but the Texans' 7 came on special teams, i.e., with the defense off the field.  The Texans scored 0 with the Browns defense on the field until 6:08 remaining in the 4th.

On the other hand, special teams were definitely awkward today:  In addition to losing the PK, Browns special teams gave up a kick return for a TD in the 1st and also surrendered a rare successful onside kick in the 4th.  Texans scored shortly after recovering that onside kick, too.

All this makes me afraid for the playoffs, but hopefully it was an anomaly.

As an aside, why is D-Hop trying to tackle a kick return when the Browns were destroying the Texans?   Kickers should only do that in the playoffs or the Super Bowl where it's win or go home.    Hopefully he will recover quickly but from what I read, he has had hamstring injuries in the past.

I thought kickers would have strong hamstrings, but apparently not.

We were up 14-0.  The kick return TD made it 14-7.  I don't call that "destroying" just yet, not when it was still the 1st quarter.

If anything, a strong muscle is more easily pulled.

Or if the leg muscles are improperly balanced.  Say, to maximize a very particular athletic skill at the expense of others.

Of course, these things also can just happen, so it might not say much besides that it happened.

yeah the kickers or qb’s as last resorts on busted plays never ends well. 🤷‍♂️

It felt like it to me.   14-0 in the first quarter and it seemed like everything was in rhythm.   At any rate, not worth risking injury with plenty of game left in week 16 and 2 more weeks to go.   Hopefully he bounces back quick!

I am not an expert on sports injuries, but I think a pulled hamstring is among the more minor of football injuries. Even for a PK.  He should recover quickly enough.  However, unfortunately, we play on Thursday.  Of all the times for us to be slotted for Thursday Night Football, this is less than ideal.

Stefanski has done with practice squad players all year.  Hopefully this kid from Detroit steps up along with them!

If it is a grade 1 strain, he should recover relatively quickly.  I've never really liked Thursday night games.  It must be brutal for players to play again 4 days after a Sunday game.  If the NFL was really concerned about players health, they would eliminate Thursday night games. Unfortunately, the NFL is more concerned about the almighty dollar.

Damn I was really hoping the 49ers would win last night. Looks like the division is there for the Ravens.

Also, the Browns haven't won the AFC North in thirty years.

Carry on.

Well technically the Ravens are the old Browns...complete with division titles and Super Bowls

Technically the Ravens are not the old Browns.  The NFL, the Hall of Fame, and pretty much everyone else recognize the current Browns as established 1946, the Ravens as 1996.  Ozzie Newsome was a top Ravens executive for many years, but went into the Hall of Fame as a Browns player.

This was part of the deal that got the NFL out of the legal bind the modells put them in by signing a deal to move without league approval.

The ideal would be to sync up Thursday night games with teams having a bye week the previous week, whenever possible.

Hear me out.  The Browns getting the 5th seed may actually set them up better than the one.  The Browns can play with the Ravens, we know that.  Add the Flacco thing in there and Baltimore people have come onto Cleveland radio and said they are not excited about that.  The Chiefs are an absolute mess.  I would play them any day right now.  The dolphins are good, but they are still not battle tested in the playoffs and just lost to Tennessee two weeks ago.  The most dangerous team in the AFC right now outside of the Browns and Ravens, is actually the Bills.

The 5 seed gets you a date with some crappy AFC south team, and then either takes you to Baltimore/Miami for a divisional game.  That will be a hard game.  BUT, if the browns prevail in that game, i have a strong belief they would be HOSTING the AFC Championship game against the Buffalo Bills.  I'm not getting ahead of myself, am I?

LOL.

Is it 8:15 Thursday night yet?!?

I think that the team that stands the best chance to upset the Ravens is the Browns. They know how to play against Lamar and they have done well against the Ravens since Lamar has been there. That being said, I do not see them as a Super Bowl team. I think they tend to struggle (for some unknown reason) against some non-divisional opponents. I could see them having trouble if they had to play Buffalo, KC, or Miami in the playoffs (especially Miami).

Also, the 5 seed gets you and AFC South team for sure (or KC if they continue losing), but if that team is Jacksonville, I would be a little more weary having to play them on the road vs at home. I would still take the Browns in that matchup, especially given how the Jags have played the last month, but I think it is a different game in Jax than Cleveland.

Here's the things... the Browns (with a healthy Grant Delpit) are Super Bowl contenders. The defense is historically good and Stefanski x Flacco is a combo that will get you at least 17 points a game - that's a dangerous recipe going into the playoffs.

But ya know what Super Bowl caliber teams don't give a flying **** about? What seed they get. You have to play tough games in the playoffs regardless. And quite frankly, if we do get a first round game in Jacksonville, I'm willing to be 30,000+ people in that stadium will be Browns fans.

i agree with all of that.  The reality is, the playoffs are very hard, but the easiest playoff game available for any team is the game against the AFC south winner.  The only team that will get that is the 5 seed  or perhaps the 2 seed if Indy/Houston sneak into the 7 spot.

yeah, but how many of these injured guys are we ralistically getting back for the playoffs?

I think Delpit is our only real hope

lets just beat the jets today — and come out of it with no more injuries — and then the browns can enjoy ten days off and we can assess where we are and have a better idea of the health of the team.

When I invent my time machine, I will travel back to July 2023 and see what odds I can get on “Cleveland Browns clinch a playoff spot with one week still to go in the season, and they do it behind Joe Flacco.“

Great night in CLE - gotta love seeing our fan base embrace  this resilient team with a national tv audience watching  - and with Joe Flacco leading the offense!  Great feel- good story.  Congrats Browns on reaching the playoffs.  Great job Cleveland fans!

Revisiting Raiders-Browns and 'Red Right 88': 'That was a hell of a play in our history'

Paul Gutierrez, ESPN Staff WriterJan 4, 2024

"I wouldn't feel too good if I was an Oakland Raider right now," offered John Brodie on the NBC telecast.

"They are ready for another Cleveland Brown finish," added his broadcast partner, Don Criqui, the noise of the crowd in the background swelling.

"Fasten all seat belts. The Kardiac Kids, they call them. They will give you those heart palpitations."

Sure enough, NFL MVP Brian Sipe came to life, calmly driving the Browns into a whipping wind on an ice-slicked field …

So the Browns-Texans game is on Peacock exclusively? Welp, this is going to be the first Browns playoff game I've missed since I was 5 years old in 1972. I hope the rating suck.

It’s on NBC

Its moot because its not the Browns game - but The Peacock game will still be on local TV in the two cities involved, just like the Thursday night Jets game on Amazon was still shown on local TV here in Cleveland.

By rule they have to show local team's games on local TV.
