I'm sure it's a conspiracy against the poor, good man.  Afterall, the Browns have had 30 some odd starting quarterbacks since '99, and every single time one of them turned out not to be working out, someone halfway across the country came forward to accuse them of sexual assault.  SOP, folks, SOP.

Or maybe the opposite of all that.

Is her attorney Tony Buzbee?   He's the McNair's close neighbor and the family still resents DW for some things said about Robert McNair.

If not, more to it.   But four years later when others have long since filed?

What a distraction and enormous waste of money he’s been.

Haslam is just such an idiot. To take someone of questionable moral background and make him the face of the franchise, in THIS day and age? It is just the most asinine thing ever.

My best friend is high up in another NFL organization on the pro-personnel side...

The Browns were one of at least 5 teams who would've offered him that money - they were just more willing to part with picks.

Well, no one ever accused the NFL of being a moral organization. It really is just a collection of violent men with violent backgrounds throwing a ball and running around, and fans will look past all indiscretions or crimes when they play well.

The reddit boards would be overwhelmingly supportive of Watson if he were any good. Same reason Steelers fans excused their rapist quarterback's assaults. Same reason Tyreek Hill, despite ALL of the women and child abuse he's inflicted, has his supporters. Hell, same reason Browns fans STILL idolize Jim Brown, when he should have gotten the needle for all those decades of abusing women.

It's worthwhile to recall that when the Browns took over Brock Osweiler's contract and salary cap hit from the Texans, we also got a second round pick in exchange for a fourth.

That second round pick was Nick Chubb.

(Said in the same tone Viggo told his son whose car he stole and dog he killed).

Don't leave out owners. Like Robert Kraft, and his little human trafficking-related misunderstanding.

This is it right here for me. As much as it is a Deshaun Watson story for the crimes he likely committed, in my mind I always go back to that it’s a Jimmy Haslam story. And this is the same guy now begging the public for a handout. Haslam has been a complete disaster, send him back to Tennessee, I’d take Randy Lerner over this clown any day.

I don’t really admit this publicly but in my heart of hearts I’ve been kind of hoping for this to all blow up in his face like it now is. I can’t really say I want the team to win with Watson at the helm. And I hate that. Nick Chubb and Miles Garrett and so many of the other guys deserved so much better.

Meanwhile in Tampa there’s a quarterback named Baker Mayfield who had a great week.

When is the last time I-71 turned a profit?

So does the rapist start on Sunday? I just don't see it.

That Jacksonville crowd will be brutal.

Edit: crap, I forgot the rapist's backup is ALSO a rapist.

It never ends with this team.

A video?

Tony Buzbee, the attorney representing the woman who filed the latest lawsuit against #Browns QB Deshaun Watson, tells me they will be scheduling a meeting with the NFL in the next two weeks.

Said they have "a video and two additional witnesses for the NFL to speak with."

I understand Watson's attorney isn't returning phone calls. So why not turn evidence and witnesses over to the police?

a win —

Key injuries

Browns: WR David Bell (hip) was carted off the field in the third quarter with a trainer holding his leg in a raised position and immediately ruled out. RB Pierre Strong Jr. (hamstring) also was ruled out. RT Dawand Jones left the game and headed to the locker room with cramps but later returned.

ok so giants next week, i watched them lose a nail biter this afternoon. browns can defintely handle this team.

btw baker won too in tb with similar stats as watson, but he was his baker self, including one rush and one toss for tds, plus five sacks and an int. win is a win, but i don’t miss those kinds of mayfield games.

I thought I smelled Buzbee.

espn take —

Cleveland 18, Jacksonville 13

Browns

Is this closer to what the Browns' new offense wants to be?

The Browns' offense wasn't perfect by any means, but it put forth a much better effort than its Week 1 no-show. Cleveland ran the ball well and frequently brought in extra linemen to get the ground game going. Penalties continued to be an issue, but the Browns got cleaner play from quarterback Deshaun Watson, who didn't turn the ball over and rushed for a touchdown in the first quarter.

Describe the game in two words:

Undisciplined football. After the Browns were flagged for 11 accepted penalties in Week 1, they committed 13 penalties that were accepted Sunday. They were especially undisciplined late, with three infractions negating a potential game-sealing touchdown drive and giving the ball back to the Jaguars.

Early prediction for next week:

The Browns' offense will break out against the Giants. The unit wasn't great against Jacksonville but showed signs of life in the first half. The Browns could finally get one or both of their top tackles back next week in Jedrick Wills Jr. and Jack Conklin, which could help jump-start the unit.

Next game: vs. Giants (Sunday, 1 p.m. ET)

Buccaneers

Are we looking at a career-best season for QB Baker Mayfield?

Mayfield's five passing touchdowns (with a sixth on the ground) are the most ever for him over the first two games of a season. His ability to thrive under duress (he was sacked five times) and connect with wideout Chris Godwin -- who has amassed 200 receiving yards and two touchdowns through the first two games -- was the difference-maker against the Lions.

Give u chills??

Wow, after watching todays Browns game- what can you say?  What an absolute mess the Browns are.

DA BROWNS.

When they hired Dorsey it was a head-scratcher for me.   The Bills fired him last year and the offense exploded when he went away.   So of course, the Browns hire him!

Maybe a more football person can explain this logic to me.   My guess is they wanted a OC to help, but Stefanski didn't want someone too good.

Well, at least Baker and Flacco had a good day

First time I’ve seen Watson in the flesh. The benefit of being high up in the cheap seats is that you can truly appreciate the amount of wide-open receivers he overlooks.

I noticed that last week too. Last week the angle I was sitting I watched him wildly miss a wide open back in the flat. It was a pass I'd expect a high school quarterback to make. He's not the QB he once was and he's not working back to that. He's done.

I'll step away from bashing Watson for a minute.  I think the hallmark of the Stefanski era of Browns football is a well-scripted good looking first drive, followed by a struggle on offense for the rest of the game. Just my perception. The guy just seems to somehow gameplan for winning close games, close to the vest ball, like the NY Giants in the 80's or OSU under Jim Tressel. So inevitably a few mistakes lead to the Browns losing to terrible teams they should be beating by 24 points.

** of course it didn't seem that way with Flacco or pre-injury Baker.

I think we are seeing the value of Coach Callahan.

Browns need a major “redo” - what they’re trying to do is simply not working.
Who ultimately do we hold accountable ?  Is this on Dorsey? Stefanski?  Watson has been pretty bad but  It’s way more than a “Watson problem”.

Hold Haslam accountable.  He's the owner, he hires everybody else, he's the one constant.

I have to ultimately blame Jimmy and Dee Halsam for the state of the Browns. They hold all the cards on hiring the players and staffing.  Their focus has never been about winning on the field.  They have focused on uniforms and stadium issues.  Time to clean house altogether. We need a team that connects on and off the field.

Another 3 touchdowns for Baker. But Cousins was just on fire.

Flacco with 3 touchdowns and 381 yards. That loss wasn't his fault either.

But how about that elf!!!

So much seems wrong it must be self-sabotage while alledegly focused on a new or renovated stadium in Cleveland/Cleveland area.  The Haslam's attention span must be stretched too thin with their focus on Tennessee, Columbus, Milwaukee and Cleveland.  He obviously is delegating way too much to un-named people in his corporations overseeing each enterprise and "they" in turn probably make life hard for those in the local Berea management structure. Not the owner Cleveland expected or deserves especially after survviing the Modells and NFL betrayal.  Also the Haslam's silence does not smell right - hopefully they will speak up to reassure the fans. At least we get our 1st round picks again next Spring (?) so we can draft an Offensive line and see once and for all if Watson is also as bad with a solid line and healthy running backs?

Edited by Willo

No matter what happens, it's time to bench the rapist indefinitely. Don't ever allow him on the field unless he's on a prison work release program.

The money is gone no matter what, this and the next few seasons are done -- but at least we can move on from the Watson saga.

We need to move on from the Watson saga and convince Haslam to sell the team.

Most disengaged I've been with this team since the 0-16 & 1-15 seasons. Sadly they're wasting what is a fairly talented roster. Watson's contract is going to hang over this team for the next couple of seasons, so to me it's looking like they should just blow this thing up and start from scratch. It was already announced after the game that Watson is not going to be benched, although they may have no other choice soon enough.

It's shaping up to be another wasted season. Myles Garrett and others aren't getting any younger.

Should we even risk playing Nick Chubb at this point?  Let's figure out a QB for next year and regroup then with a healthy Chubb.

Chubb is a free agent after this season.

And that's why I also think just resetting and drafting a rookie QB doesn't tie in with where the rest of the team is at. Probably going to need to find a seasoned QB to stop the bleeding, stabilize the circus and to make what we have of the quality in other areas of the field.

Also there are so many other teams with glaring holes or weaker talent than the Browns that are also competitive and that's why I'm growing very tired of Stefanski, no matter what's going on around him like Watson, Haslam etc. The Broncos have three wins and I'd argue a fraction of our talent. The Giants just went to Seattle without their best offensive player and won convincingly. The Commanders who just tore us to shreds have transformed overnight, Arizona just went to San Fran and won. There's only so much bitching I am prepared to hear about injuries. Everyone has some level of adversity in this league, deal with it and adapt.

Edited by snakebite

Rookie QBs can succeed with a team of veteran leaders. Stroud in Houston last year, and the Commanders this year are proof of that. Years of no high draft picks could bite them in the ass though. No depth and young low priced talent.

Let's keep him as injury free as possible. The season is lost anyway; no sense wasting his health when he wouldn't even be ready for another month. He only started doing drills 5 days ago.

This whole thing has just been so entirely predictable, from the minute they gave guaranteed money to a guy who had missed a season and was going to be suspended for another basically whole season. And yet all the talk radio buffoons and DraftKings bros assured me it was a great move. They were too deep in the sports media bubble to see what was plainly obvious from the beginning. Moral questions aside, what an idiotic decision.

This could have been written 10 years ago about Johnny Manziel as well.

Fun fact: The San Diego Padres also drafted Johnny Manziel. He could've saved Browns fans a lot of time by choosing baseball instead.

Johnny Football. One of the many dysfunctional players they acquired over the years.

They draft mostly badly and let top talent go, like....

We didn’t give away three first rounders, a third and a fourth plus 230+ million guaranteed to get Johnny Manziel. A terrible pick…yes but not a franchise changer like this turd of a trade.

Yeah, they truly mortgaged the entire future of the franchise on this guy. And the team was already good and had a promising future!

I get it's not at the same level, but we threw away two first round picks (Manziel and Gilbert), and then proceeded to ruin the season because Brian Hoyer, although he was playing well and started out 7-4, had to look over his shoulder every time he threw an incomplete pass to see if they would be putting Manziel in.

After a 1 point loss to the Colts to drop to 7-6, we yanked Hoyer for good in favor of Manziel.  The Browns then proceeded to lose 47 of their next 51 games.

I'd say that was a bit of a franchise changer.

Good Lord.....how is that record even possible in a league with a salary cap, and where the worst team gets the best pick in the draft?

It's astounding.
