Did you stay for the Barclay return?  Were you one of the ones chanting for Brady?  And did you tailgate before the game?

Haha... The Google tag words on the page are "drunk on-air kosar bernie."  Did it automatically generate those?

I liked Bernie as commentator, by the way.  Of course, he's not a broadcaster, but I thought he brought a lot to the game.  He made a lot of funny comments, too (on Steptoe taking that timeout, he said, "That guy is on my list, and it isn't my Christmas card list!")

Yes I stayed for the entire game, No I wasn't chanting for Brady because I probably knew the offense better then him on Saturday, and Yes I was tailgating and it was hot as heck in the sun and a Browns jersey.

Cleveland Browns rookie cornerback Eric Wright faces big test against Detroit Lions

Wednesday, August 15, 2007

Tony Grossi - Plain Dealer Reporter

Eric Wright's first test as a rookie cornerback against Kansas City was a pop quiz. The second one against Detroit will be more comprehensive.

Starting their second season under offensive mastermind Mike Martz, the Lions rolled up 489 passing yards in their exhibition opener, a 27-26 win over Cincinnati.

Cleveland Browns quarterback Brady Quinn says he's ready to play

Quinn says he's set to play but Crennel will limit action

Wednesday, August 15, 2007

Tony Grossi - Plain Dealer Reporter

Brady Quinn said he is all caught up after missing 16 practices in a contract holdout and is ready to show his stuff in a game.

Now he has to convince his coaches.

"All quarterbacks are greedy. We want as many reps. . . . every rep. . . . and to get in there and play all the time," Quinn said after Tuesday's morning practice.

Here's a personal opinion/idea:

I know a lot of people often complain about the cost to attend a professional sporting event, because A) some simply can't afford it, or B) some don't want to spend the money on something they're not that interested in.

However, with that said, Saturday night is the final home preseason game and it's a great opportunity to get downtown and see the stadium/team.

There are tons of tickets available on stubhub.com for under $10 a seat, some costing as little as $5 a seat.

So if you've never gone, get down there and check out the Browns.

In honor of me going saturday:

Cleveland Browns cornerback Holly confident despite not starting

Thursday, August 16, 2007

Mary Kay Cabot - Plain Dealer Reporter

For Browns cornerback Daven Holly, two Wrights don't make a wrong.

Despite the fact Holly started 12 games last season and tied for the team lead with five interceptions, the Browns signed journeyman Kenny Wright as a free agent and immediately penciled him in as the starter opposite Leigh Bodden.

Cleveland Browns' Bodden not likely to miss Detroit game

Thursday, August 16, 2007

Mary Kay Cabot - Plain Dealer Reporter

Cornerback Leigh Bodden rested his scoped right ankle Wednesday and might have to do so periodically.

"He had that surgery on it in [March] and it's sore from the work we've been doing," coach Romeo Crennel said. "So we'll monitor it from time to time and if it gets sore, we'll back off a little bit and let him get it well."

Goodell content to wait on Vick case

Friday, August 17, 2007

Tony Grossi - Plain Dealer Reporter

Disciplinary action against disgraced Atlanta quarterback Michael Vick could come in "seven to 10 days," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said Thursday in a visit to Browns training camp.

Vick and his attorneys reportedly are negotiating a plea agreement with federal prosecutors. Vick pleaded not guilty to dogfighting conspiracy charges last month. If he strikes a plea agreement, it is assumed that Goodell will lower the boom.

Browns running back Jason Wright confident he'll produce off the bench

Friday, August 17, 2007

Steve Silver - Plain Dealer Reporter

Jason Wright doesn't come with the golden football pedigree of Brady Quinn. He doesn't grab headlines like Kellen Winslow Jr. He certainly doesn't have to shoulder a city's offensive expectations like Jamal Lewis.

But as Lewis' primary backup, Wright could become one of the Browns' most valuable assets.

High-flying Lions will test Browns CB's

Zac Jackson, Staff Writer

08.17.2007

If it's bombs away Saturday, the Browns' cornerbacks say they'll be ready.

They'd better be.

A week after rookie Eric Wright passed his first preseason test -- one deep shot taken at him, one pass deflection to show for it -- the Lions come to Cleveland Browns Stadium with one of the league's most physically impressive receiving corps and a quarterback, Jon Kitna, who loves to throw the deep ball.

look for me, i'll be drunk in section 310!

This should be a good game.  DET has the top-ranked offense of the pre-season (per NFL.com), and the Browns have the #2 ranked defense.

The local pop warner team could have shut down the KC offense..

Poor Timmy..

Month after signing two-year deal, Couch released by Jaguars

By Len Pasquarelli - ESPN.com

Updated: August 18, 2007, 4:37 PM ET

The comeback attempt of quarterback Tim Couch, who was the first player selected overall in the 1999 draft, but who hasn't played in an NFL regular-season game since 2003, took a hit on Saturday when the Jacksonville Jaguars released the five-year veteran.

As if you really care.  lmao!  :-D

Well, what did everyone think of last night's game. Being in Columbus I didn't get to see it as the NBC affiliate here was airing that other Ohio pro football team.

Was it true fans were booing the team? How good/bad did the QBs look? What about Winslow and Edwards?

Neither Frye nor Anderson looked very good.  Dorsey did okay.  Quinn had the ball twice and performed brilliantly, albeit against guys who won't make the cut.  On the other hand, that's who he had blocking and catching.  He was very sharp and effective and provides some reason for optimism.

Ok if everyone is gonna twist my arm, I'll give my opinions on the game..

Talk about two different worlds leaving the stadium last week verse last night.

#1 - Jamal Lewis looks to be in great shape and shows no signs of injury.  There is such a concern over the quarterback position.. however, whoever starts the season is going to be handing the ball off to #31 plenty.  It's nice having a legitimate pro bowl player who is still only 27 years old we so quickly forget.

#2 - QB's.. both threw interceptions, although Anderson's wasn't as bad as Frye's.  Frye just over threw the receiver and it was an easy pick.  Anderson had two receivers on a crossing route it looked to be, who pretty much ran into each over and fell, so the ball was placed well except the receivers were on the ground.  Anderson needs to protect the ball better (aka the fumble on the 1st drive).  Frye had a nice scramble and made some nice throws.  I think after last night, although he didn't play GREAT, he played decent, Frye has the starting job right now.

#3 - Everyone is going crazy over Quinn, some idiots even said start him next week verse the Broncos.  I think NOT!  Did he play well verse guys who will be tearing it up in Canada this year?  Yes.  Does he deserve to start? Hell no.  Does he deserve earlier playing time/1st team reps in the game?  POSSIBLY.. it all depends on how much of the playbook he has grasped.  As fans, we have no idea, he was playing with a limited set of plays and you could tell by the number of short passes (which worked well for him since that's the ND offense).

#4 - Too many penalties.. MUST cut down on those, they are drive killers for us and drive savers for them.

#5 - Whoever wants to win the 3rd receiver spot better step up soon.

That's all for now, I'll let everyone chew on that.

I don't think Brady should be annointed the starter...but I'd like to see him get some reps with the first team...or at least the second team.  He earned that last night, as he both threw and managed the drives extremely well.

I think Ken Dorsey's all but earned himself a roster spot as well.

Quinn throws for 155 yards, 2 TDs in debut with Browns

Associated Press

CLEVELAND -- Brady Quinn's biggest throw could turn out to be a monkey wrench.

With flashbulbs popping all around the stadium, Cleveland's rookie quarterback tossed two fourth-quarter touchdown passes in his first NFL exhibition game and looked better than any Browns quarterback in a 23-20 loss to Detroit on Saturday night.

> I saw the game. Saw the final score. But hours after watching how Quinn performed in the role he was asked, and how the fans were electrified by it, I saw ESPN highlights ending with "Browns lost." That's funny. It didn't "feel" like the Browns lost!

> There will be immense pressure from the fans to start Quinn, especially if Quinn continues to outperform the other QBs during preseason (regardless of which strings they're playing among). The Browns front office may want to see Quinn start for purposes of selling tickets. Please resist. I do think Quinn will start at some point during the season, either as a result of injury to Frye or chronically mediocre/poor play by Frye. Let it happen naturally.

> Regardless of who the players were surrounding Quinn (on Browns' offense as well as on Detroit's defense), it's clear that the neophyte Quinn has a presence in the huddle, in the pocket and overall on the field that belies his age. That is a rare, intangible attribute that you cannot teach.

> Anderson should be selling insurance or working at a hardware store before the regular season starts. At this point, the third quarterback on the roster should be Dorsey, but he's just OK -- what one would expect from a third QB. But Anderson is awful.

> Was Kosar drunk last night???

"In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

I think Kosar has some sort of health issue that causes his speech to be slurred.

Did anyone else notice the green dots on the back of the QB helmets?  I'm guessing that is to signify that they have the mic in them.

Correct.

Where were Kellen Winslow and Jurevicious last night?

i know its the preseason, but when Crenel has passing plays called, from your own territory, with less than a minute to go in the 1st half, I have to scratch my head.

go lions.

Both Winslow and Jurevicius played early.  But since Kellen had offseason surgery and Joe is a little older, their preseason plays will be rather limited.

regarding Brady, how many times did he actually hit his number one option?

It seemed like every play was to his check-down, but granted that's what the lions were giving to him every time.

Interesting to see a player who still if healthy could become a solid NFL receiver.. if this guy is clean and finished with the drama, I wouldn't mind the Browns signing him late in camp to a non-guaranteed contract.

Charles Rogers likely to try to resurrect career in CFL

By Len Pasquarelli - ESPN.com

Updated: August 19, 2007, 12:41 PM ET

Unable to find an NFL team willing to take a chance on him, former first-round wide receiver Charles Rogers is likely to sign soon with a CFL team in an effort to resurrect his once promising football career.  The second player selected overall in the 2003 draft, Rogers was released last year by the Detroit Lions after three seasons marked by injuries, inconsistency and a suspension for a repeat violation of the league's substance abuse policy. He worked out for a few franchises last season but was not offered a contract.

Cleveland Browns are making no snap decision on starting quarterback

Frye, Anderson, Crennel, Browns taking their time but could determine tonight who will be starting QB

Saturday, August 18, 2007

Will the Browns' starting quarterback please stand up?  That's what coach Romeo Crennel hopes will happen tonight in the second preseason game against the Lions at Cleveland Browns Stadium.  "I think it's possible that a starter could come out of this game," said Crennel. "If it plays out the way we want it, then we'll announce a starter.  If it's still close, we might have to alternate a little bit more."

Cleveland Browns' Quinn certain he can be better

Sunday, August 19, 2007

Steve Silver - Plain Dealer Reporter

Neither Derek Anderson nor Charlie Frye helped clear the muddied starting quarterback waters Saturday night, but Brady Quinn shined in his debut performance.  Quinn entered in the fourth quarter with 9:20 remaining and immediately made his presence felt by completing his first five passes against the Detroit Lions amidst a Super Bowl-like flurry of camera flashes.

Chris Barclay, Jerome Harrison battle for RB spot on Cleveland Browns

Sunday, August 19, 2007

Mary Kay Cabot - Plain Dealer Reporter

Running backs Chris Barclay and Jerome Harrison are locked in a fierce battle for the third tailback spot.  Barclay caught a swing pass from Brady Quinn on Quinn's first play in the fourth quarter and turned it into a 30-yard gain.  On the next play, he caught a 5-yard out from Quinn to the Lions' 29.  The receptions led to Quinn's touchdown pass to receiver Efrem Hill five plays later.

Brady Quinn's debut impresses Browns quarterback Charlie Frye

Sunday, August 19, 2007

Mary Kay Cabot - Plain Dealer Reporter

Browns quarterback Charlie Frye knows exactly what it feels like to hear the fans chanting for a hot new rookie quarterback.  "That's where the mental toughness comes in a little bit," said Frye, who heard "Charlie! Charlie!" as a rookie in 2005.  "A couple of years ago they were doing the same thing to me."  Frye stood on the sidelines Saturday night as first-round draft pick Brady Quinn came off the bench in the fourth quarter and directed two touchdown drives to pull the Browns within 23-20.

Brady Quinn makes debut as Cleveland Browns lose to Lions, 23-20

Quinn is a knockout in debut with Browns

Sunday, August 19, 2007

Tony Grossi - Plain Dealer Reporter

All along, the Browns' worst fear was having to rush rookie Brady Quinn into action before his time. That is closer to happening now. After another ugly leg of the quarterback derby between Charlie Frye and Derek Anderson, Quinn made his first appearance a night to remember. Quinn put together two snappy touchdown drives in the fourth quarter to give the fans -- and the coaches -- a lot to talk about this week in a 23-20 exhibition loss to the Detroit Lions on Saturday night.

Was Kosar drunk last night???

He always sounds that way. He lives here in South Florida and is a guest on a morning radio show that I listen to from time to time. He sounds that way at 7 AM! One too many sacks?

:drunk:  :drunk:  :drunk:

Seriously though is he an alcoholic or does he have some other issue?

I was having a discussion about Bernie's broadcast ability this weekend. We figured it was a combination of too many sacks/concussions, the Youngstown accent and vocabulary and then any other mood altering chemical.

Cleveland Browns' QBs don't pass for exciting

With ugly preseason performances at quarterback, it’s pretty clear the No. 1 job is still wide open

Monday, August 20, 2007

Story by Mary Kay Cabot - Plain Dealer Reporter

Now what? The Browns are faced with a harsh reality: The opener against Pittsburgh is less than three weeks away and they have no clear-cut starting quarterback. Neither Charlie Frye nor Derek Anderson has done enough to win the starting job. Rookie Brady Quinn had a sizzling fourth-quarter against the Lions -- but the Browns aren't sure he's ready for the Steelers' blitzing first-team defense. Ken Dorsey looks better all the time, but he's not the answer.

Coach Romeo Crennel says Cleveland Browns anxious to score touchdowns

Tuesday, August 21, 2007

Tony Grossi - Plain Dealer Reporter

Browns coach Romeo Crennel attributed clock mismanagement problems inside the Detroit 10 in the first half on Saturday to tightness. With Derek Anderson at quarterback, the Browns had to burn timeouts twice and were penalized once for delay. Those mishaps occurred inside the Detroit 10-yard line. The sequence climaxed in an Anderson interception.

Cleveland Browns coach Romeo Crennel names Charlie Frye starting quarterback for Denver Broncos preseason game

Tuesday, August 21, 2007

You can forget about seeing Brady Quinn play with the Browns' first-teamers Saturday in Denver. Coach Romeo Crennel ended the suspense Monday when he named Charlie Frye the starting quarterback for the third preseason game and Derek Anderson the first backup.

Quinn to follow Frye, Anderson in Saturday's game with Broncos

Associated Press

Updated: August 21, 2007, 12:30 PM ET

BEREA, Ohio -- Brady Quinn's strong debut wasn't enough for him to muscle into Cleveland's quarterback competition yet. Quinn shined in his NFL introduction, leading the Browns on two long touchdown drives in the final 9:20 of a 23-20 loss to Detroit. The rookie threw a pair of scoring passes -- against Lions backups -- and played with composure and confidence in his first action as a pro.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/trainingcamp07/news/story?id=2983574

I guess Romeo said in a press conference that "Charlie Frye and another guy/the other guy" not sure how he worded it, are competing for the starting job, and he didn't mention Anderson at all by name.. me thinks that Mr. Anderson is on his way out the door..

^Yeah, heard that as well.

really what's the difference between Dorsey and Anderson? (and please don't say Dorsey's Veteran Leadership)

Dorsey is bright and has experience with  Chuds offense from when he played under him at Miami. The reason for keeping him would be that he would be able to tutor Quinn on the offensive package. The downside is he has the arm of a Pop warner 3rd stringer.

LMAO!!

If we need to play our THIRD stringer again anytime soon.. we might as well just pack it up and call it a season at that point..

Stumbled upon this gem today..
