Agreed on the Raiders.  But I wouldn't discount Cleveland's offense in our loss on Sunday - they knocked us back on our heels, and we before we could recover, they just kept hitting us, again and again.  Took advantage of a rookie cornerback on at least two TD's, who you know is going to improve game after game; swept our kick return teams aside twice in a row, scaring us into squib kicking and earning short fields the rest of the game; and from what I remember of the nightmare, our defensive line played pretty well, but our linebackers were just NOWHERE to help.  When Lewis got a hole on a running play, the linebackers weren't there to plug it up after a shortish gain.  They didn't bring pressure, they didn't cover the run, they didn't help on the pass - it's like we were completely unprepared to handle what turned out to be a pretty powerful offense, once Anderson had a full week to focus on being the starter...

Not to say our defense won't rank among the worst in the league this year - probably will, in a number of categories - but Cleveland's offense wasn't handed anything, they went out and took it...

What's with Cribbs and the oxygen?  He had to sit out one or more of the kick returns early on in the Bengals game.

Go sprint 80 yards a couple of times and you'll know why.  You get a burning feeling in your thighs and you get short of breath at times, that's why he needed it.  And with the number of returns, it added up.

What's with Cribbs and the oxygen?  He had to sit out one or more of the kick returns early on in the Bengals game.

Didn't he have the flu or was that last week?

Ah, the flu!  That's plausible.  He will still need a note from his doctor.

Glad to see we're back to talking sports, not the meaningless sideshows.

I liked the new aggressiveness in offensive play-calling. I hope that extends to the defense, with more blitzes. But can the secondary be trusted to cover receivers when blitzes are called?

Speaking of putting more pressure on the quarterback, I wonder why the Browns didn't go after Tank Johnson? Of all the areas they improved in the off-season, the defensive line is one of the few remaining areas where I think we're still weak. I mean, c'mon, a 39-year-old, 375-pound nose tackle? He may be a mountain in the middle to help stop the run, but we need to put pressure on the QBs. I think our linebackers are of high enough quality to help stop the run. Maybe they should be put into more blitz packages?? Tough questions with no answers yet.

I think that Tank Johnson's past may have been too much for the Browns.. several incidents now, just not worth it in their opinion I guess.

How great is Scott Player's helmet and facial hair.. he looks like Hulk Hogan meets 1950's NFL player.

Also, I think Jamal is gonna have a big game, facing his old team, knows their defensive scheme, practiced against it for years.  They'll probably stack the box knowing this so Derek has to have a big game since the receivers should be facing 1-on-1 man coverage most of the day.

I got a kick out of him.  Looks like a bad-ass biker who's looking for pain with that 'stache old-school helmet.

The Browns are doign much better than expected this year. They are up 17-3 and now just got a fumble.

They still have a half to play.  Plenty of time to self destruct.

end of 3Q Ravens turn the ball over on downs, CLE 27 BAL 6!!!

Edwards with 97 yards on 3 catches (1 TD), Winslow with 85 on 3 catches.

If they win this, and play decently against New England, do we still get Brady against Miami?

ok thats two division wins.  We're .500 (2 wins - 2 loses) after the first quarter of the season.

I give the Browns a C grade so far.  Defense needs to step up even more.

We could have been 3-1 if not for that blocked FG last week!  I think that this shows that the Browns have the talent, but have to pull it all together.  Think about it...we won legitimately against two teams that were supposed to be playoff-bound!

I give the Browns a B.  The offense has performed better than I expected.  The defense seemed better in previous years, though. I'll spare a breakdown of why I give the B.

On a side note, looks like I have some neighbors that like the Steelers.  They've been shouting some obscenities whenever the Cards score.  Wonderful.

this week the defense played better, but the amount of points they allowed in the first two games was sickening!  The penalties last week also didn't help.  They played horrible against the Steelers.  The offense and special teams has been great, except for last weeks block.

and oh yeah...Go St. Louis Phoenix Arizona Cardinals!

A C?!?! The defense needs work, but how can you give a C to the Browns, maybe to any other team, but for the expectations we had.. they're at a B at least..

What a sweet victory it was, great to walk outta the game today happy again, that's 2 home wins in a row!

It definitely was.  I enjoyed watching a game that we weren't playing from behind to win and there weren't any cardiac moments.

So I'm assuming there were no Brady chants this week.  He wasn't shown on the broadcast until a couple of minutes before the game ended.

Yes a "C", they have have played average.  Not superior or excellent, just average.

Don't forget Chicago!!

Decades of watching NFL football on TV has given me the brilliant insight that it is the first few possessions set the tenor of the game and the course of the rest of the game.  For example, an effective offense can run the defense all over the field chasing them and exhausting their backfield and linebackers.

On Sunday, it was obvious that the Ravens had not prepared for the Browns.  Maybe they thought they didn't have to.  They even burned timeouts and took penalties because they were late getting the plays called in.  They deserved to lose.

Kellen Winslow was effective despite the shoulder sublux.  He even played with some sort of harness on.  Anderson's long pass to Braylon Edwards on the first play after the turnover was totally kick-ass.  Woof woof woof woof!

At the first quarter point of the season, I would give the Browns a C+. I give them only the + because they could very easily be 3-1, if not for them taking the Raiders lightly and falling asleep along the line during the final kick. How can treat a home team lightly and fall asleep with the game on the line?? The Browns' defense still gives up too many yards and Derek Anderson scares the hell out of me. But I do the defense improving with each game and Anderson seems to be learning how to limit his mistakes. But I still don't think he's the answer at QB and hope the coaching staff gives him a tired arm during the bye week and puts Quinn in.

The offensive line protection was awesome yesterday. They are really coming along (and Tucker hasn't even played a down yet). I am amazed that we didn't allow any sacks against the Ravens defense.

I think the fact that DA knows when to get rid of the ball is a big help to the o-line in pass protection. Plus tucker comes back this week and he's be able to play at guard now too.

Playing Brady Quinn right now would be the worst thing possible for this team.  I don't know if any of you have every played real football in your life, but players get used to a QB.. right now, our offense is in sync, if you switch QB's it's gonna mess that all up.  I'm not saying Anderson is our QB for 10 years.. but let him play until we start doing poorly, then consider making the switch.

I'm just happy I get to see them on TV in two weeks (vs. Miami). Hopefully that won't be the week Miami gets its first win.

The line was solid even when Steinbach was out and Friedman was in.  Gotta give props to Steve Heiden, too...I saw him make some excellent blocks to protect DA.

i loved the non-td td. about time something like that goes our way for once. billick really screwed up by not reviewing it in time. and to that i will say in my best simpson's nelson voice: ha haa!

Hey Florida Guy -- I'll bet there's less than a half-dozen sober people in that crowd photo. And I'll bet half of them were drunk before they walked through the turnstiles. People don't just get fun-drunk -- but stupid-drunk, screaming-drunk, fighting-drunk and/or passed-out drunk.

It's why I don't go to Browns games anymore. If Browns security gave sobriety tests to patrons when they pat them down for Kalashnikovs, WMDs and Stinger missiles, the stadium would be half-empty.

KJP, I feel you.  To be honest, that could be any stadium or arena that a pro team plays at.  In Europe its worse.

I'll leave it at that before we're BOT'ed!

and the half dozen are the kids...

The last Dolphins game I attended (2004) two drunks in the row in front of me (Dolphin fan & Jet fan) were talking smack and ended up in a fist fight then other fans started drenching the Jets fan with beer. They were ejected but it ruined it for me. I have not been back since.

As MTS said it is the same at most pro stadiums with soccer probably being the most notorious for unruly drunks.

way to go, Browns!  Good luck the rest of the way!  I love your uniforms... perfect autumn colors

Awwwe ... isn't that cute! ;)

Braylon Edwards and Kellon Winslow were beasts in that game against Baltimore. And Derek Anderson is doing a great job at QB.I've kept count. He has 9TD passes and only 5 interceptions. And Jamal Lewis is doing a good job at running back. The offensive line is so much better this year, and I think it will continue to get better every week. The defense needs some work.

Geez, I feel like KS5214 today! :-P

Although no longer a Brown....Tim Couch sinks to a new low.

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - The NFL has suspended free-agent quarterback Tim Couch for six games for violating the league’s steroid policy, Yahoo Sports reported on its Web site Wednesday.  Couch had told Yahoo Sports in a story about his recent comeback attempt that while he was recovering from shoulder surgery that he briefly used human growth hormone, which is banned by the NFL.

some type of irony when you get suspended from the NFL while not even on any team's roster.

holy art schlichster, he's really done for now. hello cfl.

dont you mean arena ball? The home of washed NFL has beens!  lol

dude i just did a search on that drug store its out on 3rd avenue in Bayridge - a haven for steriod sweatshops.

Tony Rizzo just said that the Browns are 16.5 point underdogs for Sunday!

If they can pull off a win against the Pats, the Browns will be the talk of the NFL.

It's pretty cool that Yahoo!'s power rankings have them at 15 overall.

And with Kosar trying to bring AFL to Cleveland, now may be the perfect time for Couch's triumpant return!

so-called kentucky qb's and duke hoopsters=pro sports poison

Anyone else besides me think that the Brownies are going to give the Pats a run for their money?  I smell an upset!

FYI, the guys from Profootballtalk.com said that the Browns are the "real deal," and that they'll get a wild card this year.  The video is about halfway down the rumor mill page.

I think it will be much closer that 31-14, in favor of the Pats.

I don't know which Browns team will show up tomorrow.  If the defensive backs and the O-Line do their jobs, this will be a good game.

Im with you,I think the Browns is gonna give the Patriots a challenge.Im not gonna hang my head low if they lose to the Patriots, because not many teams are on the Patriots level.I hope Braylon Edwards and Kellon Winslow keep doing good,if they both have good games,I think theres a good chance The Browns will win.Go Brownies!

I did not know that about Braylon Edwards, Murray Hill!  He is quite mature beyond his 24 years and quite an inspiration.

Edwards, 24, pledged $1 million this year to Cleveland's public schools for 100 scholarships for children who might not otherwise be able to attend college — or, in some cases, provide incentive for students to further their education. Last year, in the midst of a five-year, $40 million contract, he created a $500,000 endowment at Michigan, the largest donation by a former athlete.
