I did not know that about Braylon Edwards, Murray Hill!  He is quite mature beyond his 24 years and quite an inspiration.

Edwards, 24, pledged $1 million this year to Cleveland's public schools for 100 scholarships for children who might not otherwise be able to attend college — or, in some cases, provide incentive for students to further their education. Last year, in the midst of a five-year, $40 million contract, he created a $500,000 endowment at Michigan, the largest donation by a former athlete.

Didn't he do this last year?

Winslow quells Porter's anger with kindness

Associated Press

Updated: October 11, 2007, 4:59 PM ET

BEREA, Ohio -- Joey Porter may have changed jersey colors.  His tone remains the same.  Miami's outspoken linebacker, who has waged a personal and sometimes profane battle against Browns tight end Kellen Winslow the past two years, renewed their feud earlier this week with more biting words.

Irrelevant to this week.. but still have to post it..

Go Browns.  I need you to win to make Marino suffer!

Yes, Miami sucks! I'm happy with the Browns today but at some point the defence has to be addressed. Miami's second string QB scores 31 points?

way to go, Brownies!

look at this. i was looking at a list of nyc football fan bars and for the browns they mention a gay sports bar (right up the block from us) -- pretty funny! here's the blurb:

WHERE GAY FANS GATHER

Gym Sportsbar 167 Eighth Ave., nr. 18th St.; 212-337-2439

The only bar outside of Cleveland where Brady Quinn’s first appearance will bring a room to a hushed standstill. Sundays are so packed that guys hang out the bar’s front windows.

Screens: 7.

Goon Factor: Low.

Menu Sample: No food.

Fan Base: Mixed.

Cleveland Browns delay return to practice of center LeCharles Bentley

Tuesday, October 16, 2007

Mary Kay Cabot - Plain Dealer Reporter

The Browns will wait at least another week before allowing center LeCharles Bentley to begin practicing with the team.  Bentley, recovering from a torn patella tendon and complications that required a total of four surgeries, was eligible to begin practicing this week under the rules of the physically unable to perform list.  But the Browns have three weeks in which to open that practice window - and then another three weeks to evaluate him in practice before making a decision on whether to activate him, release him or place him on injured reserve.

Safety swap?

Safety Sean Jones has given up a handful of touchdowns when singled up on a tight end, and the Browns will consider moving him to free safety and Brodney Pool to strong.

"That's something we'll have to look at during the bye week," Crennel said. "If we need to swap them, we'll swap them. If there are other things we can do to affect those matchups, then we'll do that."

This needs to happen.  After coming off what many thought was a Pro Bowl season last year, Sean Jones looks like he's gained weight and slowed down on the field.  He was drafted around 210, now he's listed at 225, but he looks even bigger than that.  If he wants to add 10 more pounds and be a linebacker, that's fine, but I'd rather see him drop 15 and be a playmaking safety again.

my goodness.  The browns could actually go 5-3 at that half way mark of the season.

Defense, its time to step it up!

I think he misses Brian Russell just like the rest of us.

MrNYC, this is just a couple blocks up from your crib, I'm surprised you didn't know about this place. You're going to have to starting partying with the boys more often.  he he he.

A bunch of cancer stick inhalers hang out on the "patio" while inside patron's watch TV and play pool.  I understand they're going for a non "gayborhood" type bar and trying to develop a "neighborhood" bar, but this place  is depressing at best.

The Browns have skyrocketed in all the "Power Rankings" on ESPN, Sporting News, Sports Illustrated and Yahoo! Sports!

I don't know what the heck I'm gonna do with my life on Sunday without the Browns playing this week....

Browns place cornerback Baxter on injured reserve

10/23/2007, 5:40 p.m. EDT

By TOM WITHERS

The Associated Press

CLEVELAND (AP) — Gary Baxter's courageous, unexpected comeback from two serious knee injuries ended for this season when the cornerback was placed on injured reserve by the Cleveland Browns on Tuesday.

Shocker..

^^ Wow, I didn't know Anderson was 24.

Yeah, all of our offensive backs, except you know who, are whippersnappers.

Jurevicius is our oldest offensive weapon if that's who you're speaking of, he's 32.

Cleveland Browns sign defensive back

Posted by mstarkey October 24, 2007 10:41AM

The Browns added defensive back Nick Sorensen to their roster today.  Sorensen, in his seventh NFL season, was last cut by Jacksonville in training camp.  He previously played for the St. Louis Rams.  Sorensen, 6-3 and 205 pounds, has played in 75 NFL games, but never started.  He has been mostly a special teams player.

Is anyone else extremely scared of the game this weekend.  We're coming off the bye week and playing an 0-7 opponent who is starting to get healthy on offense (QB, stud RB, stud WR) on the road.  This has all of the makings of a vintage Cleveland sports "I'm gonna get your hopes up and then crush your dreams at the most unexpected time" level meltdown.

I was thinking the same thing.  Win-less teams are the most dangerous!  OK kids.  Lets stay positive!  The offense is clicking, the defense needs to step up, you kids are allowing to many points!  Get back to the basics!

This team scares me every week.. but Bulger still has broken ribs, and Jackson is no where near 100%, I think they're rushing him back.

Two St. Louis Rams guarantee victory over Cleveland Browns

Thursday, October 25, 2007

Mary Kay Cabot - Plain Dealer Reporter

Rams tight end Randy McMichael guaranteed a victory over the Browns on Tuesday, and running back Steven Jackson backed it up on Wednesday.  "Randy McMichael guaranteed a win?" Jackson asked on a conference call with Cleveland media on Wednesday. "I didn't know. Well, then I back it. I guarantee it with him."  Jackson said he did so because of solidarity on the 0-7 Rams.

Whats with all the "guarantees" from NFL players lately. It always comes back to bite them in the keister.

Yeah, because it's a stupid thing to do.  Nothing motivates your opponent like making a public guarantee to beat them.  I was happy when he made that quarantee.

Yeah, I'm sure most players otherwise would have just phoned it in. Like if it weren't for the guarn-sheeds last year in the cavs playoffs, I'm sure they would have lost.

If someone like Tom Brady or Peyton Manning makes a guarantee, I'd probably believe them since they've proven themselves over the years.  Maybe I'm wrong, but this McMichael guy that made the guarantee that the Rams would win hasn't done anything special in the NFL.  I haven't even heard of him until this week!

I hate the fact that I have to watch a game in a dome tomorrow. Domes are so depressing. No energy.

Anyways, Go Browns!!

I love the Arizona Cardinals dome, probably because it lets actual natural light into it.  But I agree with you on domes like in Indianapolis, St. Louis, Minnesota, and New Orleans.

And at least one of those is going "bye bye" in the near future.

i'm glad the browns won today because cowher picked them to lose on the cbs pre-game show.

Glad to see the old Browns character as your avatar, mrnyc. Bet the youngin's ain't never seen that before.

Also glad to see the Browns winning today (duh). But the Browns' defense is pretty awful. I was hoping they would make some changes (both in players and in plays) during the bye. It seems this is the best defense that they can field. That's sad.

Braylon is becoming a truly elite receiver. Except for the drop at the end, he was pulling in everything thrown near him. Yet defenses can't key on him with Winslow and Jurevicius (and even Cribbs, Carter, Heiden and Wright). And don't look now, but Anderson is on track to break Sipe's team record of 30 touchdown passes in a season.

^ Don't forget to give credit to the offensive line!  The group only gave up one sack the whole game.

But the Browns' defense is pretty awful. I was hoping they would make some changes (both in players and in plays) during the bye.

What players did you expect them to get during the 8th week of the season what would make an impact?

Cleveland Browns place Ted Washington on injured reserve

Posted by mstarkey October 31, 2007 17:54PM

Ted Washington's days as the Browns nose tackle have probably ended.  The Browns today place Washington on injured reserve, ending his season and possibly his career. In his place, the Browns claimed defensive back Ricardo Colclough off waivers from Pittsburgh.  Washington, 6-5, 375, had been inactive for the past two games and his playing time had been limited before that.

Go Browns!  The Bungles have just lost to Buffalo, so please win!  My picks aren't doing so well today.  :-(

Hopefully Baltimore will beat the Steelers and then there will be a three way tie at the top of the AFC North.

What an AMAZING, AMAZING game!  I think that this one proves that the Brownies are a top ten NFL team!

The only thing that made today's win even sweeter was realizing that the Bengals have returned to being the Bungals!!

Cleveland Browns will keep Bentley on injured list for the entire season

Posted by Tony Grossi November 06, 2007 15:41PM

Center LeCharles Bentley's dream of playing for his hometown Browns will have to wait another season.  The club announced Tuesday that Bentley will remain on the physically unable to perform list for the remainder of the 2007 season.

"the physically unable to perform list"

That's the kind of list that no young man would want to be on.   Word could get out.

What an AMAZING, AMAZING game!  I think that this one proves that the Brownies are a top ten NFL team!

I swear that our strategy has become, "Why should we blitz or put any pressure on the opposing quarterback?  We'll just let them score 30 because we can score 35."

I also don't know how K2 is going to last a whole season taking a beating like that either.  I don't know of a player in the league who plays harder on every snap.

Especially considering that he's going to have to play against two very hard-hitting defenses during the next two weeks. Still, I love watching that guy play football.

yeah, but we were looking seriously banged up towards the end yesterday.  Lewis got up slow every time he ran for another 2 yards and Winslow too.  Thing was, I never stopped believing that we'd pull it off.  What an odd feeling!
