December 4, 200915 yr Here's a little excerpt from Bills Simmons NFL power poll and picks on ESPN.com. I found his take on Cleveland's current sports situation... interesting. 32. Cleveland First, the Cavs choke in the 2009 playoffs. Second, the best two starters on the 2008 Indians start Game 1 of the 2009 World Series for two teams not named "Cleveland." Third, the Browns clean house and hire Eric Mangini, who takes that same house and sets it on fire with a flame thrower. Fourth, what could end up being LeBron's final Cavs season is distinguished early by Shaq looking like a bald Aretha Franklin and LeBron's body language occasionally lapsing into "I can't wait to find a new team; I am tired of playing with crap teammates" mode. And fifth, there are two nights of star-studded concerts to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame -- located in Cleveland, as you know -- and those concerts happen at Madison Square Garden. Here's my question, God: What did Cleveland do to you? The rest of the article can be found here: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmonsnflpicks/091204
December 7, 200915 yr Re the Browns' executive search I ran into Nick Caserio this weekend, who I knew from my HS days. Didn't dawn on me to ask him why he is here until later.
December 7, 200915 yr I can dream, Pittsburgh has looked pretty bad... Browns haven't looked as bad and it's at home.
December 7, 200915 yr I can dream, Pittsburgh has looked pretty bad... Browns haven't looked as bad and it's at home. You go right on with your lil dream.
December 7, 200915 yr I can dream, Pittsburgh has looked pretty bad... Browns haven't looked as bad and it's at home. But it won't feel like a home game with probably 60% of attendees cheering for sh!tsburgh! I agree though that Pitt's secondary has looked awful of late. I won't count us out, but I am not getting any hopes up.
December 8, 200915 yr It's been a while... but I am excited for Sunday. The chargers game was not excellent... but at least more entertaining that usual. I want the Browns to beat the Steelers so so bad! This week when I hear someone call them "sixburgh" I am going to ask if they are referring to their wins or losses this year.
December 8, 200915 yr It's been a while... but I am excited for Sunday. You might want to keep THURSDAY night open.
December 8, 200915 yr Remember when I predicted a 4-12 record at the start of the season and you guys all harped on me for being a pessimist? Now it looks like I was being fairly optimistic.
December 11, 200915 yr I went to Sunday's game while I was in town. I was wandering downtown when someone offered me a ticket so I spontaneously decided to go about 10 minutes before the game started LOL. I got a great seat, row 3 and I paid $40 for it. The guy kept trying to get me to pay $50 but I told him I wouldn't :)

December 11, 200915 yr I can dream, Pittsburgh has looked pretty bad... Browns haven't looked as bad and it's at home. You go right on with your lil dream. HAHA! Yessss, Go Browns!!!! Incredible game, Magini probably saved his job.
December 11, 200915 yr Good mood all week now! And man we have some die-hard fans: http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2009/12/cleveland_browns_fans_endure_s.html
December 11, 200915 yr From a Bengals fan, I must say congrats to the Browns!! Not only do I love to see Pittsburgh lose, you guys really earned this victory. Oh, and Cleveland looked absolutely beautiful on TV, especially the green and red Terminal Tower.
December 11, 200915 yr It's been a while... but I am excited for Sunday. You might want to keep THURSDAY night open. Oops, did I say Sunday? Glad I had time to watch the game! Suck on that one Stillers! Now we can hear all the excuses about the weather this and Troy Polamalu that.

December 11, 200915 yr Ok so they won. they are 2-11. MTS, They beat their rival that they had lost to 12 times in row! They virtually killed the Steelers chances of making the playoffs. They made Big Ben look like Tim Couch. No only did they beat them, they outplayed 'em. The d-line dominated their o-line. They were rushing 3 and getting to Ben. The d-backs and safetys shut down Ward and Holmes. And they did all this on NATIONAL TV! For once, the Steelers and their fans have to do the soul searching. I know the Browns are 2-11, but it's the Steelers! THE SQUEALERS! Have we forgotten who our rival is just because we've been their punching bag this last decade?!!? I'm jacked. Mangini saved his butt by winning this one. One a side note, Deion is right. They need to pay Cribbs.

As you state we've been a punching bag so I'm not sure it's still a rivalry. I don't know. I'm happy for the win, just not that happy. :|
December 11, 200915 yr I also watched the game on the internet. Being in the business, maybe you can explain it to me. Who does NFL.com think their audience is for the internet version of the game? Are they limited to the amount of the game they can show? They kept going back to the studio to discuss the game, missing large portions of the game itself to discuss past plays, or expectations. In the 2nd half, they didn't show any of the game until the 6 minute mark. They kept discussing things like "fantasy players"! I would think the only people online watching would be those without access to the game, and do they really think these people are more interested in what the studio clowns have to say?
December 12, 200915 yr ^ The online coverage is awful. I guess it's just a supplement to the game on the NFL Network. I was in Columbus on training, and had no NFL Network in the hotel and trying watching online. I just gave up and listened to the game on the clock radio in the room. For the first half, I listened to some terrible, terrible Steelers radio network commentary. The color guy talked a lot of trash, like that the Steelers should run the ball up the middle because the Browns' d-line and linebackers suck. It was unbearable! Luckily I found Donovan and Dieken down the dial.
December 14, 200915 yr OHH EM GEE!! That's got to be the biggest shirt ever. Its not the shirt! My God, the girl looks like shes inhaled two linemen for the Steelers!
December 15, 200915 yr Holmgren in Cleveland meeting with the Browns by Pat McManamon on December 15, 2009
December 15, 200915 yr Holmgren in Cleveland meeting with the Browns by Pat McManamon on December 15, 2009 I hope Lerner is more than happy to provide Holmgren with the leverage he desires in his upcoming contract talks with Seattle. I don't see this as amounting to much more than that.

I don't see this as amounting to much more than that. I hope 3 days of talks, especially when his agent was involved is more than a bargaining chip with Seattle.
December 16, 200915 yr ^ I try to not be the pessimistic Browns fan, but I can't possibly see how it is any more than a bargaining chip. Seattle is going to give him whatever he wants now.
December 19, 200915 yr Apparently Braylon Edwards knocked up one of my favorite contestants on 'America's Next Top Model': From newsnet5.com: A former "America's Next Top Model" contestant is reportedly suing former Browns wide receiver Braylon Edwards for up to $70,000 a month in child support. The New York Post reported that 25-year-old Nik Pace gave birth to Edwards' son in August. The article says Edwards filed in Atlanta to be recognized as the boy's father, but Pace objected and sued for child support in New York. December 20, 200915 yr Okay, I think someone spiked my Burning River pint - the Browns won *another* game?!? Who'da thunk! clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
December 20, 200915 yr The Cribbs contract situation is a perfect example of Lerner not having good management people immediately below him. Should have paid the man last summer, but you told him to go prove himself on the field. Well now the price tag is through the roof. He is a franchise player. And what the hell kind of milk did Jerome Harrison put in his Wheaties this morning? He ran for a Browns' record 286 yds. That's good for 3rd best in NFL HISTORY! Falls in just behind Adrian Peterson's 300+ game his rookie season and, of course, the day Jamal Lewis went nutty on us. Are the Chiefs that bad? Or has that "feel" finally been developed between our very "talented" O-line and a running back who doesn't insist on pitty-pattering his feet through the hold? (sorry Jamal but it's true) Speaking of the O-line - Alex Mack may just be the best center in the NFL already. He is going to be a monster for years to come. Would have been well worth the #5 pick, so the fact that we were able to trade down several times and grab him in the 20's was briliant. Yeah, even though it was just the Chiefs, I am feeling a hell of a lot better than I did a month ago.
December 20, 200915 yr Watching Cribbs direct the blockers sweeping right on his second TD was a thing of beauty. The Chiefs are lame. I feel sorry for their fans. First game not sold out since 1990, is that what the announcer said?

First game not sold out since 1990, is that what the announcer said? whoa....this season hasn't had many highlights, lets face it, us - Browns fans - can't really look down our nose at any team. Next year I hope we're more competitive.
December 22, 200915 yr New celebrity in town! Mike Holmgren accepts team president role with Cleveland Browns By Mary Kay Cabot December 21, 2009, 6:23PM UPDATED: 9:51 p.m. CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Big Show is coming to town -- and he's only coming to run the show, not coach it. Former Seahawks and Packers coach Mike Holmgren, also known as The Big Show, agreed Monday to become president of the Browns. A source close to the situation said he will not be coaching the team, instead becoming the football czar they've been seeking to help turn around the struggling franchise. He needs to show something or he becomes low round draft picks 12 and 13. So is Frye on IR or did he just go out for the game? We could have a DA vs Frye show down on our hands. My three year old will be wearing his hand me down Frye Browns Jersey, for what it's worth.

I'm sure, if you were in his shoes, and after medical evaluation, you wouldn't take the risk either. Lets just keep it real. Noted. I was just hoping that we would not have to draft a quarterback next year but with Quinn's "body of work" so far it looks like we will have to. His accuracy is horrible, better receivers would help somewhat but he still misses with too many passes. I like Quinn, he runs a good huddle and hurry up offense, and protects the ball reasonably well. He also seems smart on the field, too. However he is already injury prone and his accuracy is suspect, but you need to be able to pass when needed in the NFL. I see no reason for the Browns not to draft or trade for a new quarterback.
December 22, 200915 yr Brady Quinn's injury history since his NFL career began concerns me. That said, I doubt Holmgren leaves the QB position as is. He prides himself on making back-ups into pro-bowlers (see Matt Hasslebeck and Steve Young) Holmgren in Cleveland meeting with the Browns by Pat McManamon on December 15, 2009 I hope Lerner is more than happy to provide Holmgren with the leverage he desires in his upcoming contract talks with Seattle. I don't see this as amounting to much more than that. Mmmmmmm.... crow tastes better than I thought. However, I will say that I still think the original intent of coming to Cleveland was for leverage, but it appears that Lerner really sold him on becoming a savoir of this great football town. It was either that or the extra $2 million per year the Browns' offer exceeded the one put on the table by Seattle.
