September 26, 201014 yr I actually see an 0-7 start....but didn't expect much more... Signs of improvement. Cannot stop a team with a 2nd & 23 (was it?)..that's sad. Only 0-7? You do know they play the Pats after the bye, then the Jets, right? 0-9 seems more likely, lol. The Browns might only be the favorite 1 or 2 times this season :drunk:
September 26, 201014 yr I was trying to be optimistic! Seriously, fans should not expect much from this stage of the re-building process... except for solid and competitive play, standouts/bright spots to build upon. Having said that, I'd take this team and the direction its going over Romeo and company. Not saying much but its a start. Consistency must prevail because the organization cannot be a revolving door where nothing ever has a chance to establish.
September 26, 201014 yr This may the best team ever to go 0-8 or 0-9. The are seriously just good enough to lose.
September 27, 201014 yr I was trying to be optimistic! Optimism went out the window when I saw the schedule and then proceeded to see them lose to the damn Bucs  I do agree, this team is heading in the right direction for the most part and I'm glad Holmgren is at the helm. Still, rebuilding is always rough, especially in the early stages. It doesn't help that the Indians and Cavs are going through rebuilds too. Oh well, I hope they at least upset a team or two this year. Beating a team from their division while that team is in the middle of the playoff race would be nice.
September 27, 201014 yr They played well enough to win each of the first three games and each time they found a way to lose. This team hasn't been beat yet, they've just lost. I don't see us starting 0-9. They haven't been blown out yet and I see them being competitive in every game this year. Hell, get Eric Wright off the field yesterday and the Browns probably have a convincing win over Baltimore.
September 27, 201014 yr They obviously won't win before the bye, which I called after last weeks mess. Magini will get fired at the bye, and Holmgren will come out of the booth. It is official that Cowher is ready to get back on the sidelines. They will court him big time for the remainder of the season, and work hard in the off-season to get him on board. I don't think he will simply because any great coach with a legacy would be crazy to coach the Browns. In the end, McDaniels will have some rough seasons with the Bronco's soon, an d will get picked up by the Browns by 2014. At that time, we may turn this program around.
September 27, 201014 yr I enjoyed that game. Very physical. Definitely not reminiscent of Ravens-Browns games of the past where the Ravens would essentially knock our guys all over the field. I would say we got the better of them in the physicality department yesterday. It's almost amazing how easily we could (and, quite frankly, SHOULD) be 3-0 right now. Not one of these teams has clearly outplayed us and we had leads in each of the fourth quarters. Eric Wright was absolutely embarrassing yesterday. He was getting beat like he stole something all afternoon. The Ravens offense basically boiled down to - line up and find a way to get Boldin on Eric Wright... or at least throw to whomever E Wright was covering. He got beat for 3 touchdowns and nearly every crucial 3rd down conversion the Ravens had yesterday. But I am not ready to give up on him yet. A few were disgraceful, but other completions he literally JUST missed batting the ball away. All of Flaco's passes against him were put on the money, pretty much. Let's see how he bounces back as he was one of our better defenders the previous few weeks and during the preseason. BTW, when was the last time a RB went for 150 yds against the Ravens' defense? Prior to yesterday, I believe they had only given up 3 100 yd rushers in the past 50-something games. Bottom line - if Baltimore needs that kind of game from Flaco to beat us, we are a helluva lot better than the team that went to Baltimore for game 3 last season and limped out of there with a 34-3 loss.
September 27, 201014 yr Oh I agree. Anyone who doesn't believe this team is better than last years does not remember just how bad they were last year... well until the last 4 games.
September 28, 201014 yr Just a observation on last night's Packers-Bears MNF football game as it relates to the Browns . Much like the Browns first 3 games the Packers lost that game on mental mistakes and penalties (19!). The packers were definately the better team talent-wise and playmaking wise but those penalty yards are a huge hole to climb out of. This Browns team is definately way better than last years at this point unfortunately with their schedule and talent level they need to play nearly perfect to win.
September 29, 201014 yr ^ Agreed and not sure it will be that close. If Cleveland goes up 7-0 Cincy is going to be in trouble. Carson looks terrible this year especially.
September 29, 201014 yr Keep dreaming. The Bottom-Feeders bowl (browns v tampa bay) was Cleveland's highlight of the year.
October 1, 201014 yr Apparently we went from the cry-babiest fans ever who have yelled half a dozen coaches and QBs out of town, to 9 months later a bunch of fans who don't care enough? http://www.cleveland.com/ohio-sports-blog/index.ssf/2010/09/cleveland_browns_fans_dont_dem.html

One of the things he said is something I was thinking coming off last weekend's games, when the Bengals did little right except win (and punt) at Carolina, and Cleveland had a formidable game at Baltimore. (The Browns are rushing for 4.5 yards a carry, by the way, and center Alex Mack is one of the most underrated linemen in football.) Burke said Cleveland's better, and the Browns just might be.

I have been trying to convince my buddies of this since the end of last year. The kid is a stud. Demontri Dawson and Nick Mangold wrapped into one. He has the power to neutralize a mammoth like Haloti Ngata and the speed to get out in front of Vickers and whoever is running behind him on a sweep, all while having to focus on his first priority of a clean snap.
October 1, 201014 yr ^The left side of the Browns line is amazing. Mack, Steinbach, and Thomas are all pro-bowl caliber players. Any team in the league would kill for these guys. The right side of the line on the other hand... not so good.

The right side of the line on the other hand... not so good. Do we even have a right side? I thought I saw a couple of zombies in the last game out there. Seriously, every play Sunday needs to be Hillis to the left. I think there is a guaranteed 3-5 yds every play.
October 1, 201014 yr The right side of the line is not that bad at run blocking. Pass blocking, they are terrible. Hopefully, with Pashos taking over for St. Clair, that is going to start changing (although it may subtract from the run blocking). The line played the best last year with Fraley at guard and Womack at tackle on the right side. Maybe when Lavou (sp?) is healthy, we can rotate between Pashos and Pork Chop at RT.
October 2, 201014 yr Keep dreaming. The Bottom-Feeders bowl (browns v tampa bay) was Cleveland's highlight of the year. We'll see. I think the highlight of the year is coming in two days. :drunk:
October 3, 201014 yr The drive leading up to the Hillis TD run was beautiful. I like that toughness. I missed the first 10 minutes... did Harrison even get to touch the ball?
October 4, 201014 yr That's four games that we have taken the fight to our opponent and were clearly the more physical football team. Really, 9-10 games if you go back to last season. Browns football has finally returned. The system is there. Now, we just have to consistently execute and not shoot ourselves in the foot (like we almost did today) and lose to teams that we outplay.
October 4, 201014 yr See what happens when I decide not to record Browns games?!?! I won't record next week's either. If we win that, too, then we'll know that my DVR controls the sporting universe. The reason why we finally held a lead in the fourth quarter (for the fourth time in four games) and walked out with a win is because we never gave the ball back at the end of the game. Good ball control, Browns. Congrats on the first victory after coming so close in the first three games. October 4, 201014 yr It was great to see that smile on Mangini's face at the end of the game. Is that what that was? I thought the dude had gas. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

That's exactly right. The Browns have been ahead of each game they've played in the second half...it's just a matter of finishing. Get a full 60 minutes in and work that ground game in the 2nd half and they have a legit chance to win more than they lose.
October 4, 201014 yr Apparently the national media finds the Browns beating the bengals a non-event. Even Peter King who picked the Browns over the bengals didn't acknowledge anything in his Monday Morning QB except for TO's stat line. I must say watching TO play I had forgotten that he is truly a freak of nature and a heck of a player. Each of his arms have got to be 5 foot long.
October 4, 201014 yr It's a non event, because the only people who think Cincy is anygood at all are all in Cincinnati! You wouldn't believe the press (written and radio) down here this am. No one can understand how such a GOOD teams as the Bengals could lose to the Browns!
October 4, 201014 yr Why would the national media be shocked that the Browns beat the Bengals? The Browns ran all over Baltimore IN Baltimore just last week and should have won the game. As a Browns fan I was not surprised by the win... just relieved to finally get a win.
October 4, 201014 yr I didn't say they should be shocked, just that it had zero coverage in any of the recap columns. I see a lot of the 2007 Browns in last years Bengals, a hot start and a cold finish. This year are still better than the 2008 Browns but no where as good as the fan base thinks. Think about this, the Browns are 12 points away and 3 blown leads from being 4-0, or at least a .500 or .750 team. Dumb mistakes really cost them in those first 3 games.

Get a full 60 minutes in and work that ground game in the 2nd half and they have a legit chance to win more than they lose. Every football game I watch is a contest to see whose defensive backfield wearies first. The first half sets the tone of the game: the team that gets the longest posessions in the first quarter can make the DBs run sprints all afternoon. The second half is a time for both offenses and both defenses to make adjustments, but the real game is a war of attrition.

I'm sure many of the Browns players know they are better than 1-3, and that's a good mindset for them to have. October 6, 201014 yr Browns acquire defensive end Jayme Mitchell in trade with Minnesota Vikings 10-06-2010 10:40 AM EDT |By TOM WITHERS, AP Sports Writer BEREA, Ohio (Associated Press) -- The Cleveland Browns have acquired defensive end Jayme Mitchell in a trade with the Minnesota Vikings. The Browns sent an undisclosed 2012 draft pick to the Vikings for Mitchell, a 6-foot-6, 285-pounder, who will bring depth to Cleveland's banged-up defensive line. Mitchell played in 29 regular-season games for Minnesota, which signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2006. He recorded five sacks and forced a fumble. Mitchell played in two games this season, getting a sack against New Orleans on Sept. 9. Ward fined by the NFL for hit on Bengals' Jordan Shipley 10-06-2010 12:19 PM EDT |By TOM WITHERS, AP Sports Writer BEREA, Ohio (Associated Press) -- Cleveland Browns rookie safety T.J. Ward has been fined by the NFL for his hard hit on Cincinnati wide receiver Jordan Shipley. Ward would not say how much he was fined, but a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press that the league assessed him a $15,000 penalty for the hit on Shipley in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak about the fine. An NFL spokesman said he was not aware that Ward had been fined. October 6, 201014 yr The NFL might as well fine Eric Wright for the hit he put on Gresham as well, while there at it. Oh yeah... I forgot... Gresham held onto the ball.
October 6, 201014 yr I know you pride yourself on being all knowing, I hated to see you dropped to our level!
October 6, 201014 yr I know you don't know how to properly indicate an internal quotation. I know that you are straying off topic. And I know that both of us need to be smacked for discussing grammar in a football thread.... a Browns thread at that.
October 6, 201014 yr 2-0-2 against the spread this year...tells me the Browns are better than people think!
