^Heard that too.  League saying that immediate suspensions will be issued from now on for the most severe violations.  I suspect the players' union is going to have something to say about that.

My take is simple.  I have no problem with Harrison's hits BUT FOR the fact that he led into them with his facemask aimed at the ground and the crown of his helmet aimed at our players' ear-holes.  No football coach will teach you to tackle like that.  It was just as dangerous for him as it was for our players.

There is nothing wrong with using your helmet.... you just have to be careful how you use it.  For example, a textbook tackle in my book is double uppercuts through the underarms and planting your facemask right between the numbers on the guy's jersey.

That's a textbook tackle in most people's book.  The problem is that some of these defenders aren't trying to tackle players as much as trying to hurt them (and even risking injury themselves to do so).

That seems to be consistent with what most ex players interviewed have said. Primary intent of defenders hits today is to separate the player from the ball, and inflict damage. Actual tackling (using arms to wrap and bring the player down) is secondary.

Maybe that has to be the distinguishing factor. You can hit hard, but you have to show how you were actually following through with arms to wrap and attempt to bring the receiver down.

Harrison fined $75,000 by the NFL for the hit on MM according to reports.  Part of the reason the fine was so high is because he is a repeat offender.

Good to see this cracking down on intentional hits to injure or take out. This is chump change to these guys, is it not? How about he sit out as long as a player hit is injured if the injury is really bad? Good idea? How to send a message?

that's exactly what the league is doing effective sunday. Suspensions for 'devastating hits', for even first time offenders.

Interesting. I didn't know that Harrison grew up a Browns fan in Akron. The guy had major issues in high school.

well now he's crying about how if he can't hit the way he wants to, he's going to retire.

Psycho....You can still level people just use your arms and look like you are attempting to tackle. I think he gave himself a concussion on that hit to MM. It was all his head, that had to do something to him too.

You can still use your head.  You just can't spear and you can't hit certain 'defenseless' players - quarterbacks and receivers - in the helmet.  This issue is getting overblown.  The newer rules aimed at increased protection of the QB are far more controversial to me than the Harrison type situation.

The thing that bother me is that the end result seemingly determines whether the hit was illegal.  In other words, if Mo bounces right back up after that hit from Harrison, nobody would have said two words about it.

Who dat?!?!

Just relieved that 15min review that Mangini ended up initiating didn't bite us in the ass.

drop wright

So who's pass was better, Cribb's or Hillis'?  What a game!  I would have liked to see more offense but no way am I complaining.

Great win brownies!!

Wow! An amazing win!! I figured the Browns would be 2-5 at this point of the season -- but the two wins would be the first two games of the year and then lose their next seven games. I think the Browns have 3 or 4 more wins in them.

And, yes, E-Wright is V-Wrong. I don't think he even deserves to be on the nickel defense. Start Joe Haden instead.

Question: the Browns are going into their bye. If Delhomme and/or Wallace are healthy in a week, do you start them or do you keep McCoy starting?

"In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

Hmm... that is tough.  I want to say Wallace.  This has been good to see McCoy but I don't want to see him get beat up.  Then again, he is playing well and could be the future so why not?

When he caught that pass I was yelling "SLIDE, SLIDE!!"

Who dat and who dey?

Browns just need to keep playing the "Who's"

Nothing to gain to by starting wallace or the stiff delhomme.  They need to find out if Colt is the future.

Colt for sure, Delhomme and Wallace find ways to fuck things up, hell we might have even lost todays game with them in. Colt hasn't made any big mistakes really. Start McCoy for the rest of the season

I'd rather see them use Wallace as their starter and put McCoy in occasionally to make sure he gets some practice in a real life situation.  I'd rather see us keep McCoy healthy this year so we can use him next year. I'm unimpressed by Delhomme, interceptions piss me off, can we throw him in on the trade of Wright for his replacement?

I believe this is the 3rd straight year we have defeated the defending Super Bowl Champion (NYG, Pitt, NOLA).

On the QB discussion, I would like to send Colt into the offseason with the confidence he has built so far.  I think we have seen enough to know that he can start in this league.  And if we give him another year, that puberty thing might kick in.

Very nice win!

I think, overall, Jake is the best quarterback. The interception problem needs to be diagnosed. I say bring in someone to work with him. It's either he needs to work harder watching films before the games or that he needs discipline on simply taking the sack or throwing it away if nothing is there. Whatever it is, it is trainable. Other than interceptions, he is the best QB the Browns have had in a very, very long time!

Delhomme has bad decision making. At his age, its hard to change that. I dont want to see Delhomme take another snap in a Cleveland Browns uniform.

I never thought I'd say this, as I didn't want to throw him into the fire too soon, but McCoy has earned the start. We're not a playoff team, so why not see what he can do over a season.

not to mention HE GIVES US THE BEST CHANCE TO WIN, or maybe I should say, not lose games.

that too

Quarterback Colt McCoy completed 9 of 16 passes for 74 yards.  Typically, a team gives a rookie quarterback a slack year for learning the system and for the growth hormones to kick in.

He has a cool name.

As a Carolina Panthers Fan masquerading as a Browns fan you don't ever want to see Jake under center again.  I was apologizing to my friend who has season tix the instant they signed him.  When he blew the playoff game 2 years ago with 5 turnovers it was a mistake, when he threw 3 interceptions in the opener next year it was a trend, he's never recovered.  I actually think he is better with just an earpiece and a clipboard.  Make him the new quarterbacks coach and I think that's a perfect fit.

Ok, you guys have me hoping McCoy starts now.  I saw his post game interview today and he seems energized.  Lets see if he really is the future of the Browns.

I'm of the opinion that McCoy should sit the remainder of the year if either Delhomme or Wallace is healthy.  Give him a year to learn and mature before giving him the reins.  He's shown that he has the ability to play ball, but there's no reason to play him this year.  He only risks getting hurt or losing his confidence when he has a 4 turnover game (which he will if he starts the rest of the year).

There should be no rush to make Colt McCoy the leader of the Cleveland Browns.  Time to pump the brakes...

Defense helps Browns overcome odds, earn road win over Saints  With their offense banged up and facing a tough road game against the  defending Super Bowl champions, the Cleveland Browns needed a lift.  Veteran linebacker David Bowens provided it, leading a defense that intercepted Drew Brees four times, including two picks that Bowens returned for touchdowns in a 30-17 Cleveland win.

Agreed that once Wallace is healthy he should play.  Delhomme should never play again, should have played at all last year either.

I know that probably wont happen, as Delhomme is getting $7 mil this year and will probably start once hes healthy, but he doesn't have a Steve Smith to chuck the ball to on the Browns.  No WR will punch someone in the face for the ball on the Browns.

Ill be very disappointed if delhomme ever plays again for us.

I'd really like to see Colt play more....  But man would we be up sh!t's creek if he were to get hurt too.  I was scared when he took that pass from Hillis and then got tackled.

So was I!

However, the fake punt was a thing of beauty!

I was just talking to a friend about how you never see fake punts and the Reggie "Molasses" Hodges pulls out a monster one.

Ha!

T. Pluto was saying during his podcast that Mangini was making fun of him in his press conf, saying that was longer than he ran in total during training camp. Mangini said he was winded afterwards.

Couldn't agree more.  You don't want to throw a rookie into the fire and have them lose their confidence.  Give him this year to learn, then break him out next year.

I say mix it up and give him some downs.  He and wallace and alternate.

I think McCoy built up some confidence. Taking him out my affect it since he feels he did good enough to start. The biggest thing that I saw is that McCoy looked comfortable, can throw a nice deep ball, and most importantly, haven't screwed things up. Wallace can throw down the middle but cannot throw towards the sidelines, does decent but also screws things up. Delhomme is just pathetic and horrible to watch. If Delhomme plays we wont have a chance to win another game.

Big game against the Pats this wknd!

I'm very excited for this game.  I wouldn't pick us to win even though we have a chance.  I think we have a better shot at beating the Jets and our favorite former Cleveland WR.

I'm ready.  I know the team probably needed a bye week but I never enjoy it... my wife does.

If there was ever a time for TJ to establish himself as a "repeat offender"......  One can dream, at least.

The PeeDee is reporting it looks like Colt vs. the Patriots........

I'll be there. Someone offered me a free ticket to go. It will be my first Browns game in at least 5-6 years.

Advice.... if you notice there are seats available in the upper deck of the Dawg Pound, try to take in part of the game up there.  It's the closest thing we have to the old Municipal Stadium bleachers' atmosphere.  The higher up, the better.
