Unfreakingbelieveable!

Apparently we're not a one-dimensional running team.

 :drunk:

Hope this ends the QB talk...Colt's a winner!

Yeah, I was on the fence but Colt earned the starting job.

What an excellent game!

yeah so much fun today. even better than beating up the saints. good show brownies!

We beat the absolute tar out of the patriots. Best game I have seen the browns play in a long time.

I was at that game and left before it got ugly. We (the only two sober people in the stadium) could see that things were going to get nasty if that replay didn't go our way.

Now for today's game and my mid-season appraisal....

One shocker is an aberration. Two is a trend.

Why the trend? Here's my take: the offensive line is playing incredibly well. Even in the losses they played pretty well. But they keep gelling and getting better. Their ability to open holes for Hillis, keep the cutback lanes open and give QBs a little extra time is the big difference on offense. I doubt McCoy would be able to be so comfortable in letting plays develop if he didn't trust the guys up front. BTW, McCoy's rollouts today impressed the hell out of me.

On the other side, the amoeba defense has to be one of the most inventive "formations" I've seen since Buddy Ryan's 46 defense of the 1980s. Such creativity apparently runs in the family! Our very good linebackers seem to make this work, and the average defensive line and secondary support it pretty well. The defensive line is holding its own and you can see the secondary growing with each game, especially Safety TJ Ward.

Before the season, I was hoping to be 3-5 at the midway point (on the way to an 8-8 record), counting victories against Tampa Bay, Kansas City and one surprise victory against either Cincinnati or Atlanta at home. I wasn't counting on TB or KC being such improved teams this year. But I figured the tough opposition overall in the first half of the season would certainly hurt us. What I didn't figure was the marked improvement of the team's play against the better teams. Other than Pittsburgh, we had a chance to win every single game thus far. And the Browns keep playing better.

In the second half of the season, I think we definitely have a shot at being 8-8 or possibly better -- if the last two games against the Saints and Patriots are an indication of things to come. Seriously, how many of these remaining opponents scare you?

11/14/2010 New York Jets

11/21/2010 @ Jacksonville Jaguars

11/28/2010 Carolina Panthers

12/5/2010 @ Miami Dolphins

12/12/2010 @ Buffalo Bills

12/19/2010 @ Cincinnati Bengals

12/26/2010 Baltimore Ravens

1/2/2011 Pittsburgh Steelers

I see 4-6 victories in these remaining games. What do you see happening in the last half of the season?

Certainly doesn't hurt that our 3 toughest remaining games are at home.

I am going to say that we will win at least one of those last two against Baltiwhore and Pittsth_puke.gif

I think the Jets are tougher than the Patriots.  I think the Browns can beat them as long as they keep their focus and poise like they have lately.

I'm not sure who I want to loose Monday.  I always enjoy watching Pittsburgh lose and they are on top of our division... on the other hand I LOVE the silence in the Cincy thread.

I LOVE the silence in the Cincy thread.

Leave the Cincinnatians alone. We can enjoy ourselves without pissing in someone else's Cheerios.

Ok, I will leave them alone.  I don't want to stir up any real trouble but it can be difficult sometimes... it's just too delicious.  It's just so, SO nice not to be in last place!

I agree with the comment about the "Amoeba" defense, that is just so odd and enjoyable to watch.

I know, right?

I guess he wants to be "pimp"!  LOL

^haha good stuff.  For real though I hope Hillis can stay healthy. Guys like him, Cribbs, and dare I say Colt, are playmakers. They're guys that make a difference in the W and L column......and that's something we haven't had in a while around here.

Let's not forget about the defense either.  If they can confuse the likes of Brees and Brady, what the hell are they going to do to young Mark Sanchise this weekend?

The key to this defense this week will be stuffing the run early to then make Sanchez have to throw more than the Jets want to.  If we can do that then we are in for a good day because I'm sure we'll be able to confuse him.

"Sanchise"?  Ummm, "Sanchez" is a popular name among Avogadro's people!  How could you f*ck that up?  :wtf:

I think the defense should do whats been doing for the last three games as you note.  I how we continue to progress.  We've played like a 5-3 team, considering two losses were at our own hands.

Sanchez was the most overrated QB in the league before he ever dawned a jersey.... and he has done nothing to convince me otherwise.  He is an average (at most) quarterback on a team with a killer defense, solid running game, and a decent receiving corp.  I couldn't be more happy that we were able to trade down 3 or 4 times and still end up with Mack, who is on a few mid-season All-Pro teams.

I'm guessing he was merging "franchise" with Sanchez, since he is the face of their franchise.

Yes, I have heard him called that.

I'd be more concerned with LT than I am about Sanchez. He can still control a game.

And I hope TJ plants Brayloon so hard into the ground that he starts growing roots.

Did you see what Braylon said?

^Yes. too bad he can't back it up.

Did you see what Braylon said?

I didn't, what did he say?

EDIT: Never mind, I found it.

I hope Braylon catches like he's still wearing a browns jersey next weekend... just sayin.

Turn off E! and listen to what all those delusional Jets fans are calling this guy.  The Sanchise (Sanchez + Franchise=Sanchise), worst nickname for a current QB.  Especially since it was dubbed upon him when he was drafted, not after he had done anything.  Which quite honestly I'm still not sure he has yet.

Too bad Braylon shaved the beard.  I'm sure someone in the dawg pound could have ripped it off for him.

Hillis has been named AFC Offensive Player of the Week

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/don_banks/11/10/week.10.power.rankings.2/index.html

Browns are number 16 in SI's Power Ranking this week. I believe they started out at #31 this year.

That is a pretty big difference compared with ESPN's power rankings.  I think they have them at number 23, it's the first time this year that they were ranked above the Bengals.  As a fan I think 23 is to low but i'm not sure I agree with 16 either.  They have had some pretty exciting games against big opponents lately but I think they have a lot more to prove still as a team.  Now if they beat the Jets that will really turn some heads, I can't wait for Sunday.

ESPN's rankings are done by four guy's, one of them is former Steeler beat writer, John Clayton, a bona fide Browns hater.  James Walker, the AFC North specialist also slams the Browns whenever given the chance.  Look for the Browns rankings in BSPN to lag behind others throughout the year.

Cleveland Browns: Are they a playoff team with Colt McCoy at QB? Poll

Chuck Yarborough, The Plain Dealer

Monday, November 08, 2010

On the heels of Sunday's 34-14 demolition of "the best team in the NFL," the optimism in Berea and indeed all over Northeast Ohio is at training camp levels. It's as if everything is coming together for the Browns right now: Colt McCoy seems to be the quarterback Cleveland has been looking for since...

Here we go Brownies...

BROWNS (+3) over Jets

Let's say the Browns win this one. Just throwing this out there …

2001 Pats after Week 10: 5-5

2010 Browns after Week 10: 4-5

2001 Pats coach: Bill Belichick (second job, defensive guru)

2010 Browns coach: Eric Mangini (second job, defensive guru)

2001 Pats QB: Tom Brady (first career start: Week 3)

2010 Browns QB: Colt McCoy (first career start: Week 6)

2001 Pats DVOA rating: 16th overall

2010 Browns DVOA rating (through Week 9): 14th overall

2001 Pats fans: severely, hopelessly tortured

2010 Browns fans: severely, hopelessly tortured

(Fine, fine -- it's a total reach. You're right. But McCoy really impressed me in that Pats game. Confident, mobile, fast, spunky … I think he could make a good transition girlfriend for the Cleveland fans as they continue to lick their post-Decision wounds. You don't want to marry Colt McCoy, but you can date him for a couple of years, cry into his arms and know that he'll never leave you. You're right, this is getting weird.)

I don't know how many more wins it will take before my Holcomb/Frye/Anderson/Quinn-itis subsides.  But two certainly isn't enough and I doubt three is either.  I've been getting really uncomfortable whenever I hear folks talking up McCoy or favoring us against the Jets.

Totally agree.  There are are people that are saying "playoffs".  Folks, let play one game at a time!

If we win today I will feel a lot better. IF McCoy can perform well today and we win, then we are clearly a different team then the one who lost those games in the beginning. And if you remember, we always had the lead until we lost it for ourselves by throwing interceptions. If McCoy continues to play well without making tons of poor decisions, I believe there is no reason for us to win under 9 games. First we need to see how todays game goes though. Ill wait to decide until after the game.

god f$&king d@mn!t stuckey. And we couldnt sack sanchez, everytime we almost did he got away and threw for 20 yards. That was the hardest game to watch

The Stuckey fumble was a bummer, but it wasn't the only chance they had to win it.  We ought to thank Folk that we went into OT at all.  One thing you can say for sure is that the Browns played with heart.  They took one of the top teams deep into overtime and ALMOST took that game.  I like what I saw, even in a loss.

We didnt tie

He means the 20 all tie in regulation.  Personally, I am glad they went for the win in that last drive.  Laying down for a tie is a loser move, I like the call.  I am so, so, so glad that Edwards wasn't a huge factor and didn't put points on the board.  I even like the onside kick.

The gutsy calls show a little trust in the team and I like that.
