November 18, 201014 yr I also heard that from someone who said there friend was there and saw that the guy just fell on the kid ....and a friend of a friend of a friends cousins sisters mother said..... you forgot one friend and one ex wife from that story
November 19, 201014 yr I just have a very hard time believing someone would larry tate office linebacker an 8 year old from across a parking lot under any circumstance... and the drunkard falling on him seems substantially more plausible.
November 19, 201014 yr Hardesty seemed like the only bad pick to me. We used a lot to get him and it was obvious he was going to be injured a lot. Obvious? I'm sure Heckert and Holmgren know a bit more than we do when it comes to evaluating players at the combine. They do MANY tests and physicals at the combines to make sure players are healthy enough to play. He passed all of them. If he gets injured again then its time to worry. He's expected to be 100% by training camp. Lets wait until then to discuss. I was speaking from his past injuries. But yes we should wait to see what his health is like next season Ya gotta admit, during his career so far his body seems to be made out of balsa wood. And if he had, I'd think some other drunkard would have started kicking his azz for doing such a thing.
November 19, 201014 yr The ESPN article claims that others were name calling and throwing food at the kid. If that is true, that changes the scene dramatically and makes the tackle appear like less of an accident. The parents and the child know what happened, is there any statements released directly from them? The Jets offered to fly them to NY, put them up and host them in a luxury suite for a home game. They also offered autographed memorabilia. Suprisingly, the family declined the offer. It mentions the Browns were in contact and offered to make things right for the family. Here is the article: Jets offer to host boy tackled by Browns fan The Associated Press Posted Nov 18, 2010 @ 04:47 PM FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — The New York Jets have offered to host an 8-year-old fan and his family for a home game after he was allegedly tackled by a drunken Browns fan following Sunday’s game in Cleveland. Matt Higgins, the Jets’ executive vice president for business operations, says the team contacted the boy’s family Wednesday. The Jets offered to fly them to New York, arrange for seats in a suite and provide autographed items from the team, but the family declined. http://www.cantonrep.com/browns/x291606037/Jets-offer-to-host-boy-tackled-by-Browns-fan
November 19, 201014 yr the time line and the events are way to "iffy". If someone attacked my 9 year old nephew, you bet your ass I would have the police their ASAP. Where is the police report?
November 19, 201014 yr I don't get the psychology that goes into deciding to wear an opposing team's jersey to a stadium like CBS. I don't feel sorry for those idiots at all. They know what they are walking into.... especially the one's that wear Ravens or Steelers. I readily join in the harrassment and name-calling for those douches. But, when the other fan is not acting like a d!ck, not gloating, and unnecessarily getting picked on.... I have seen people stand up for them against unruly behavoir. I was involved in an incident a year or two ago where there was a guy in the opposing team's gear. He wasn't talking trash or causing a nuisance. He came to sit in our section and, of course, he was called every name in the book getting to his seat. He took it like a good sport. Then he happened to be sitting in front of "that guy" who was drunk off his arse and started harrassing the guy.... pouring beer on him and he even took his hat and threw it toward the field. I thought that was going over the line so me and my friends took up for the guy and put the drunk in his place. Other fans joined in to help out. I think that is the general atmosphere at CBS. If you ask for it, you're going to get it. But if you don't act like an arse, then we will only rib you to a point. The bottom line is that if this kid was really tackled, and it wasn't an obvious accident, you would have very different eye witness reports and someone would have done something to the drunk guy.

The key is to not be an @ss and no real problems. I will need to keep this in mind when I watch Carolina next weekend, but they are horrendous and I think we can guarantee a Browns victory there.
November 19, 201014 yr I think so too.... then again, the Browns always seem to lose the games I think are slam dunks.
November 21, 201014 yr I just read that column and I'm done with ESPN's website forever. What a piece of trash. Write them and tell them so.
November 21, 201014 yr Sorry, I had to shut off the game before it was over. Someone tell me the final score when it's done. EDIT: my sister told me. Yep, they deserve to be 3-7. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
November 21, 201014 yr Colt McCoy is def a gamer and the type of QB the browns have needed for awhile. This is a learning year.. Can't wait to see him after experience and with a play making reciever..
November 21, 201014 yr I think Evan Moore could have played a larger roll. Maybe he wasn't open often. The receivers have been disappointing but I suppose I didn't really expect them not to be. I was only hoping for a surprise.
November 21, 201014 yr Needless to say I won't be changing my avatar for a while. It will take several blowouts to get the taste of that game out of my mouth. 6 turnovers and Jacksonville still wins.... Worst part of the game. Rich Gannon saying how he wanted to be in the Jacksonville huddle and take control of the game to beat the Browns..
November 22, 201014 yr Jeez, the only thing more painful than the loss is reading the dot.bomb comments following the write up on the game.... Where were the creative plays this week? I think the Daboll/Mangini duo was trying to make a statement that the Browns could win without resorting to trickiery. Unfortunately we are not there yet, especially being without Cribbs, Fujita and the Right side of the line...
November 22, 201014 yr Quite simply, I think we got beat up front yesterday. The Browns couldn't run the ball and when they can't run the ball they will lose. They don't have the receivers or the QB (yet) to win games by themselves. Obviously the Browns still need some work. Specifically a deep threat WR and DL.
November 22, 201014 yr ^Jacksonville's front 4 (even their front 7) is WAY more physical than I expected. That may be the first game this season where I saw our guy's getting pushed around a bit.... Atlanta maybe did it too. At the beginning of the season, I said I wanted us to be competitive but not to play ourselves out of a top 10 pick. Seems like things are going according to plan. As much as I hate to see losses like the last two... or the first two... the fact is that this team is still in need a major top-end talent infusion. We have a good foundation and good core. We need pro-bowlers (although I think Mack, Thomas, Vickers, Hillis, and Rubin all have a chance this year). Haden and Ward appear to be good start to the Heckert/Holmgren drafting era. If we can pick up 2-3 more playmakers this year, that will really help.
November 22, 201014 yr Sheldon Brown deserves a lot of credit for two of those interceptions, he really played a great game. It seems like Ward is always near the ball which really payed off for him. The sting of the defeat isn't as strong today. I'm still enjoying this team. Like you said HTS121, I just wanted to see them compete.
November 22, 201014 yr ESPN keeps talking about Jimmie Johnsons 5 Championships in a row and then list all the other teams that have accomplished this feat. I think the Browns deserve to be included in that list even though it wasn't all in one league.
November 23, 201014 yr http://sheldonbrown.com/ Ha, I am a fan of that Sheldon Brown too (R.I.P.). He does have a page with the Brown's Sheldon Brown on it.

I think the Browns deserve to be included in that list even though it wasn't all in one league. The AAFC deserves more credit than it gets. Any team that comes out of the AAFC and wins the championship in its first year in the NFL means an awful lot. And the 1948 Browns' 14-0 season followed by an AAFC championship never gets mentioned with the 1972 Miami Dolphins' 14-0 season followed by two playoff wins and an NFL championship. It should. The AAFC was pro football, and very high quality football at that. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

Another point, although trivial unless arguing with a Smellers fan...is the fact that the original Browns franchise won the all time series against Pitt. before the organization moved. Since this expansion team has contributed to staining so much of a respectable history, I almost wish there could be a notation included when listing stats that points out "expansion Browns"
November 24, 201014 yr Aw fuck.. it's official Colt is out with a "high ankle sprain"... As somebody commented on WFNY's write up of last Sunday's game. The high ankle sprain is the new staph infection with the Browns.
November 24, 201014 yr I'm a big fan of Colt, but I think it'll be interesting to see Delhomme go against his former team. I'm sure he's looking forward to the opportunity.
November 28, 201014 yr They deserved to lose that game... I am glad they didn't, but still. What the heck happened in the 2nd half? It wasn't only Delhomme, even though he is lucky that he wasn't picked more. Early in the game, I couldn't believe it when he tossed the ball up while he was getting sacked. I wasn't thrilled with the 3rd and 1 QB sneak either. I suppose I wouldn't complain if it worked.
November 28, 201014 yr I hope we dont have to watch Delhomme for another week though. Its almost guaranteed you will see at least 2 interceptions a game if he is playing.
November 28, 201014 yr I'm done with Jake. He can still throw the ball.... but he takes waaaaaay too many chances and does not survey the field. He could have easily had 5 picks this game if the Panthers were paying better attention. Our prevent defense is awful. Absolutely awful. On the bright side, Hillis continues to do what he does... but he seemed kind of beat up in the 2nd half. Vickers had an outstanding game. And we finally had a Robo sighting!
November 29, 201014 yr Yeah, the tackling was pretty bad and that is frustrating to watch. Carolina ended the game with a lot of rushing yardage, I think around 150 yards. Like McCleveland said, I will still take it. Hillis' hurdling opponents is very entertaining. That guy can jump.
November 29, 201014 yr Does anyone know why the clock stopped with 5 seconds left when the receiver appeared to be touched in-bounds? It seemed to me the clock should have expired and the final FG attempt should never have occurred.
November 29, 201014 yr As I heard it from the commentators on TV, the call on the field was a completed catch and the receiver rolled out a bounds before he was touched. The only part of that call that could be reviewed was whether it was a completed catch.
November 29, 201014 yr The Browns dominated the first half (could easily have been 28-7 at halftime) and laid an egg in the second half. How many times this year have the Browns done a Jekyl & Hyde from the first half to the second half??? And the worse half has consistently been the second half. If it happens once or twice, that's not an indicator of anything to me. But when happens so often, that's all on the coaching staff which is not expecting and/or responding to the other team's halftime adjustments. I had to turn off the game in the third quarter because I'm getting so sick of this. I didn't know that the Browns had won until my sister called me after it was over. November 29, 201014 yr I also noticed that after the Panthers spiked the ball to stop the clock the TV graphic showed that it was still first and 10.
November 29, 201014 yr ^That's because the clock had been stopped already. It was first down when they tried to run a play (spike the ball) so that the previous play could not be reviewed. The referee had already received the signal from the booth that the play was under review so he waved off the "spike" play. That's why it was still first and ten when they missed the field goal.

It seemed to me the clock should have expired and the final FG attempt should never have occurred. I saw that the receiver was touched...part of his body, by a leg perhaps of a Brown..cannot remember exactly. I also saw an angle that appeared the ball was juggled as the receiver went down. Did anyone see it like that? Just the same...should have never had to get in that position.

No, I am talking about even before the final pass. I think Carolina was around mid-field at the time of the play I am talking about. It doesn't really matter, because that pass was long enough for a first down anyhow.
December 5, 201014 yr I don't know how, but I FELT that last interception coming. The announcer made a comment about not wanting a mistake in their territory, and I felt like it was coming. Whew, that was close. The almost INT/touchdown against Delhomme was a scary moment.

Whew, that was close. The almost INT/touchdown against Delhomme was a scary moment. I was feeling another pick 6 when delhomme threw that pass. I really hope McCoy heals and is ready to play next week
December 5, 201014 yr Why is Wallace still sitting? I guess they are sticking with Delhomme based on the fact that he was brought in as a starter, but he is so immobile at times. He looked ok in the second half aside from the almost pick.
December 6, 201014 yr A win is a win. Is a win. I'll take it. The game has obviously slowed down for Haden. He may not always be in perfect coverage but he knows where the ball is at all times.
