Bah, Sorry for the Double post, I am on a  laggy internet through VPN working from home. Did anybody else see the Ratbird-Squealers game last night. After the beating they put on each other last night, I sort of wished the Browns were playing one of them next week. Neither team could be 100% by next week.

^Yea I know....After the first series Big Ben's nose was more crooked than the cuyahoga river.

A win is a win. Is a win. I'll take it.

The game has obviously slowed down for Haden. He may not always be in perfect coverage but he knows where the ball is at all times.

Agreed!

No Squelers or RatBird talk in here unless we're playing them.

Don't dirty up the Browns forum with their crap!

We have a General NFL thread for that! hint..hint. ;) ;) ;) ;) :P

NFL: General News & Discussion

I was filling up the space in the double post as to avoid our excellent UO admin and mods extra work, plus I tied it back to the Browns...I was serious about that part. I would love to play the Steelers next week with BR hobbled and Heath Miller out with a concussion, especially if Fujita is back. Has anybody heard when he will be probable to play again?

Love Colt McCoy btw, apparently he was out throwing balls during warm-ups, he is itching to play...

I hope we can beat the Bills. I want to see them execute and bring home a "W".  Since the Bills are all but mathematically eliminated, they will be looking to bring down the Browns.

I can't believe we're in week 12 and the 5-7 Browns still have a chance (slim but a chance) to win a wildcard!

I'm not a "woulda, shoulda, coulda" person but the Tampa, KC and JETS games will come back to haunt us.  If only we could have won, one of those games we'd be in a decent position.

Don't forget Jacksonville! Could of had that one, too. KC and Tampa hurt though...

We could have won those game if it wasn't for extreme mental mistakes, and those teams all ended up with winning records. Its weird cause I think like 10 out of the 12 teams the Browns have played have a winning record right now

No that actually played bad that game, they deserved to lose that.

Yeah. But you dont get "do overs" in the NFL!

The NFL schedulers have made the last month "interesting".  With divisional games coming up, teams who are ahead of the Browns could end up with worse records.

Lets say the last month of the season will be interesting!

did anyone notice the espn writeups on the browns game vs the ravens-steelers game? that one was a positive spin tough defensive battle, etc etc vs the browns-dolphins error plagued game yada yada negative spin. yet both were 13-10. i guess you can twist anything!

Yeah, the Browns have to decimate teams to get any nods... and even then you hear "whats wrong with the Patriots?".

How the hell were they allowed to challenge that incomplete pass and call it a fumble? The whistle was blown right away and the Browns did not go after the ball because of that. So how can you call it a fumble and give the ball to buffalo? I believe that is unchallengable and should be looked at by the NFL.

Delhomme is getting paid 7mil a year...wtf?!?!

Imagine you getting that much for performing your job that poorly

Good observation. Another observation I had today was that Jake D. is terrible.

I was really disappointed in the offensive play calling today, way too timid. I don't trust Delhomme, but if you're going to put him in as a QB, at least let him throw forward once in a while.

Trust indeed. Perhaps they thought they could squeak by on the back of Hillis and playing a side and short game. Problem is... the Bills came to play as bad as they've been and such could not work. I'll bet if he'd thrown the ball down field he'd have had at least two more interceptions. Field and weather conditions could have contributed to the fumbles.

Did the Browns play today???

a new low  :|

I have been sticking up for Mangini all year.  But if he starts JD one more time, I will feed him to the wolves myself.

That said, in the end, the improved draft position is gonna pay off IMO.  The team needs more top end talent.  Let me revise that statement - the team needs top end talent.

Be careful you don't hurt yourself jumping on and off the wagon!

Browns name McCoy as starter for the rest of the season: http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2010/12/cleveland_browns_name_colt_mcc.html

Everybody feel better now?

A little, I'd feel a lot better if they'd trade Delhomme for a receiver or draft pick so that I don't have to worry that he's our backup. Might as well get something out of him.

I dont think you can even get a tube of toothpaste for Delhomme.

We would have to give the other team a 1st round pick for them just to take Delhomme off our hands.

From Minnesota we might. Their first- and second-string quarterbacks are probably gone for the rest of the season.

Looks like we are going to have to let the Bengals fans know how the game goes

Browns score first!

Funny, listening on the radio, one would think the game was in Cleveland!  The cheering for the Browns is quite loud.

I know.  Look at the touchdown  Listen to the crowd.

Yeah well I was at the game, and there were definitely much more Bengals people than Browns, though there was a pretty large contingent of Browns fans.

Blech. Another loss. Mangini is making himself an endangered species. If he is canned, would Holmgren replace him with Ryan? Can the NFL handle two Ryans at the same time?

I doubt it.  I have heard that it is pretty well known in NFL circles that only one Ryan brother is cut out to be a head coach.

I really don't want ANOTHER overhaul.  Just give me an offensive coordinator that can move the ball without gadget/trick plays and I think we will be on the right path.  That and some more top end talent.... especially at WR.  Teams are stacking the box against Hillis because they know our WR's can be locked down 1 on 1.

The defense really let me down.  I can't figure them out.  One week they come out and punch the other team in the mouth and the next they get pushed all over the field.  What Cincy's O-line and Benson did to them was inexecusable.

Someone who calls plays on 3rd down that actually get you the yards needed not 2 or 3 yards short.

Agreed mostly with this philosophy. But the defense seems to get more than its share of time on the field due to this sputtering offense and you can't have that. The Defense also needs to employ a better third down scheme and so does the offense! A coaching change will just create more delays. The impatience and instant gratification attitude of many of Browns fans has contributed much to the drought of a lifetime...because when you have to keep changing and starting all over again, more time and waiting is inevitable. On the other hand, these last two losses are really unacceptable. They are only easier to swallow if I can convince myself that both Buffalo and Cincy were the "dangerous" teams to have during the week due to the losses they have had, thus making them easy to take for granted, as they are coming out to win some games and avoid total disaster.

alrighty then, i took a look at the standings and as of now, week 14, the browns are tied with four other 5-9 teams for the seventh pick in the draft (or five teams if the vikes lose). so far looks like a lower top ten first round draft pick is possible? can anyone expand on that? thx

I believe we will be towards the bottom of that pack in terms of tie-breakers.  IIRC, the first tie-breaker is strength of schedule and we have had one of the tougher schedules.  Teams tied with us record-wise but who played weaker schedules will be placed ahead of us in the draft.  That said, we should pick somewhere in the neighborhood of #10 and Ryan Kerrigan is still my guy.

This is a trivial bit of thought, but just beat Pittsburgh the last game. In all my years as a Browns fan, I have never witnessed such frequent boldness in Steelers followers invading the stadium and city. Maybe a lot are the typical bandwagon fan, but people living in Cleveland, etc. jumping ship to another team is one thing...BUT, to the Steelers is pathetic. I just come from the old school of thought that saw this team as the enemy to beat, not "just another game."

I don't think a lot of Clevelanders are jumping ship to the Steelers.  It's more the border war (Youngstown, Stuebenville, etc) that has understandably been tipping towards the Steelers over the last decade or so.  Those folks show up at the Browns games, as well as a few brave souls from Pittsburgh.

A few? Steelers fans invade every stadium they play in. They have a national fan base akin to the Cowboys, and their fans travel extremely well.

Much like Ohio State, actually...

Steelers Nation just seems big to you Cincy folks because it dominates Appalachia.  Browns Backers, however, is the largest fan organization in the United States and has a post in every major U.S. City, including Cincinnati (FYI, in case you ever want to join).

Hardly.  Steelers are without question one of the largest fan bases, period.  I may despise the Steelers but I'm not blind.  People from Boston to Eugene are Steelers fans.  Hell, Snoop Dogg in non-Appalachian Long Beach, Kollyfornia is a huge Steelers fan.  I do not see that loyalty with the Browns outside of Ohio as often, if much at all.

And a quick Google search can show this, aside from *ugh* the Cowboys:

Growing up in NY, there were two fashion items a young lad in the 70's had to have. The satin Yankees jacket for the fall / spring, and the full length black puffy Steelers coat for the winter. I had the former, but not the latter. Even then, I knew it was wrong...WRONG!!

But still, that shows the influence the Steelers had and continue to have.  I mean, six Super Bowl rings is impressive and neither Ohio NFL team can say that.  That continued history is the reason why the Steelers have (apparently) the second biggest fan base in the country.

Yes, hardly.  You stated:

That is (wait for it...) hardly the case.

It doesn't dominate Appalachia?  Pittsburgh is the capital of (wait for it...) West Virginia afterall.  Regardless, I think you take this light-hearted back-and-forth a beet to seriously.  If you can't absorb that quote as just a little friendly ribbing, well....

You've been on this forum for how long?  This doesn't take effort (re: seriousness) from me.  I'm just evil with purpose *insert devil smiley here*

But what I said was correct.  It does dominate Appalachia but it also dominates the Browns fans overall in America too.  So it's like...I'm right! :D
