I like Cribbs, but he is frustrating me a bit.  It looks like he is pressing for a home run.  I suppose getting into a 14 point deficit in the 1st quarter will do that to you.  Is it too late to beg Brad Seely to come back?  I don't think they deserved to be in this game at all.  Honest question: Halfway into the game, did the Browns Defense stop the Bills, or did the Bills offense stop themselves?

I note that the poll atop this page has seen its results change. The 6-7 wins choice was winning before today. Now 4-5 wins is getting the most votes.

My choice of 2-3 is looking better and better.

^ it's still looking like ofer to me. ugh.

This team is once again, unwatchable.

I think we're seeing that the Browns are going to need all the planets in alignment if they're going to (somehow) win games this year.

My prediction:  a game out of nowhere this Thursday, they look sharp and just dominate.  Then loose the next 6.

it's difficult to find any one group that is a bright spot, whether it's the O-line or defensive secondary...

^Kicking game seems pretty solid

As bad as the browns game was for me yesterday, what was even more annoying was the tons of bills fans that were at the game who took great pleasure in pointing out how much louder they were then the browns fans. Also its always such a joy to have to hear the constant self pity and bullshit from people in the stadium even when things are going well during the game. Quotes heard during the game from browns fans "Clevelands so depressing. I told you we should move!" "Buffalo's the only city shittier then cleveland" "I'm going to start rooting for the steelers. At least I'll be rooting for a winner" etc. etc. I go to about 5 games a year and hear the exact same thing win or lose from people in the stadium. People talk about the good old days when we won. Guess what we also had, home field advantage. Something I don't think we've had in quite awhile. I understand we suck and there's a lot of room for improvement but the constant nonstop negativity during the games is so draining and over the top that it makes me want to stay home and watch on tv. I mean did anyone really expect weeden or richardson to be all pros by week 3? No phil taylor or joe haden and one of the youngest teams in the nfl. This is about what I expected this year. Its bad enough that the browns lose but this non stop self pity and ripping on the city you supposedly"love" is disgusting.

Once again, if people are saying those quotes when the football team plays bad, they are complete losers. I am a huge sports fan, but have never nor will ever live here because of the sports teams.  If you live here because of the cleveland browns, probably time to take a look in the mirror and check your own life out.

I agree completely. In recent years especially, it has become nonstop negativity during the whole game by certain people. Its almost the cool thing to do or something. The final straw for me occurred a couple of years ago when someone said they wished the browns had never come back and I sort of snapped and told the person what I thought of their comment. Either way the bills fans in front of me yesterday were really really enjoying the browns fans self pity which made the game even worse.

Good for the Bills fans.  They can enjoy a couple wins before they melt down to 6-10 again.  Browns fans would do the same thing.  The losers who want to leave the city because the browns stink can go, not interested in them living here anyway.

we can only laugh at this. i am generally the eternal optimist, but by the end of a game i figured we had the best chance of winning for awhile, even i snapped in disgust and stormed out.

i was even less happy about yet another carpet bagger owner coming on, fer crissakes he's a gas station owner (wtf?), but now i feel pretty good about it. it sure can't hurt and he will shake things up. for this year i will still watch, wait out some injuries + continue to hope we do not go ofer the whole eason.

What I think speaks volumes is that now, more than ever with Haslam coming in, is that this coaching staff is working to keep their jobs. They are truly under the microscope and THIS is the best game plan they can come up with?

Buffalo stacks the line of scrimmage to stop Richardson, so we dump off to the backs, throw some downfield passes to Benjamin (how many catches does HE have) or use Benjamin on more end-arounds (including fakes)? Instead, we keep trying to pound Richardson into the line? Why? If this isn't beating one's head against the wall, I'm not sure what is. The lack of discipline on this team also speaks volumes, and Shurmur seems unwilling to drop the hammer on anyone. I'd love it if he sat Greg Little and gave Benjamin a shot.

Maybe Shurmur is so convinced he's right that he'll keep trying something wrong until it works! And I'm sure Haslam is taking notes. Shurmur may be coaching himself into the unemployment line.

What's really frustrating is listening to the post game comments.  Weeden says he had a good game.  Really!?!  Little said he's excited.  No one on the team sounded mad or upset about being 0-3.  I didn't expect them to do much this year, but show some FREAKING EMOTION!  My new favorite team is whoever's playing the steelers.

Yep. The only other team that's 0-3 right now is the Saints (quite a surprise, actually). And has anyone heard their reactions to being 0-3? They sound like they're ready to kill someone.

The Browns' reaction? Well....

If Cleveland can't make something happen in Indianapolis on the 21st of October, look out for December 9th.  The Chiefs won, but they're as bad a team as I've seen this year.

I know the Saints are mad about 0-3, but I hate to tell them, they're a bad football team.  That defense can't stop the run or the pass, and it wasn't good last year, so no reason to expect them to revert to the norm.  The norm is a shaky pass defense with a moderate pass rush that does just enough on most weeks.  With Sean Payton not calling plays and doing everything else any head coach does only better, this season has gotten away from them and they're already cashed out.  They already lost to two mediocre NFC teams in Carolina and Washington, and just lost to the worst team in the NFL.  The conference is stronger than it's been in 10 years and they're buried in their own division.  New Orleans will have a top 5 pick in 2013, guaranteed.

i like what shurmer said up there. made me feel a little better about him. i could be cynical and take it as making apologises for losing, but he did speak truth. we will have to wait and see if he can get a win from this team.

It's a bit late for tough talk from Shurmur.  He's awful and I hope Jimmy cans him on day one.

Game day.

My level of apathy for this team is appalling for the 4th game. Usually I can maintain interest until least the bye week.

I am sure I'll be watching tonight...

My latest tinfoil hat theory is the Rooneys talked Haslam into buying the Browns instead of some other team  because they are as sick of this crap as we are....

As happens every year, we will end up winning one of these games nobody gives us a chance in.  It's the 'Any given Sunday (or Thursday)" effect of the NFL.  Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

so, you are predicting two wins this season?

so, you are predicting two wins this season?

That's awesome.

I hope it's a good game. It's a short week and the Ravens defense is older, so at least we have that going for us. I also hope the Browns stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

so, you are predicting two wins this season?

I'm predicting we win two games we probably shouldn't....... so maybe my answer to your question is yes?

I do think the offense will begin to click at some point.  By midseason we may be competitive.

The Ravens defense is old and living off of their legacy. I witnessed the Chargers roll up 34 points on them by going right at them with pass after pass.

If Weeden can complete some quick passes and keep the chains moving, the Browns can win this one. I have no doubt the defense will step up tonight.

I do. Joe Flacco is coming into his own, and the absence of Joe Haden will be felt. Again.

Any indication as to whether Torrey Smith is playing?  He played an inspiring game last week just hours after finding out about the tragic death of his younger brother.  I was thinking then that the emotions might overwhelm him too much to play this week.

I have no doubt the defense will step up tonight.

Flacco is coming back down to earth tonight!  Sure they'll miss Haden. Still I'd bet you a shiny dime the Browns defense will confound the Ravens (and us) by returning to their Philly game type effort.

I don't bet, but I will be VERY surprised if the Browns hold the Ravens to 17 points or less.

Well, in front of a national audience, I am actually proud of the team tonight.  The Cribbs hit was scary.  Why is Greg Little still posing?

Poor execution + conservative game plan = another Browns loss.

Delete either the interception return for a touchdown OR Little's umpteenth dropped passed in the endzone and they should have been kicking the winning field goal at the end of the game, not throwing desperation passes into and 10 yards beyond the end zone where only the lady in the first row could catch it. They can win these games against good opponents. They choose not to.

Why is Greg Little still posing?

Because he's practicing to be a Vogue model -- the only job he's going to be able to get at the end of his contract. Assuming he doesn't drop that, too.

EDIT: Melanie Weeden (Brandon's wife) is retweeting posts that the fans will unjustly rip the Browns and that Brandon's jersey was pulled when he threw the last pass. Maybe on both.

One more thing that bothers me. The Ravens were able to put pressure on Weeden with four and even three pass rushers. So much for our improved offensive line.

Like I said, if Browns players can't execute even a boring/conservative game plan, they ain't gonna be able to win many any games.

Meh.

Didn't watch, but it looks like the Browns played better than I expected. But an L is an L.

Braylon Little. The upside isn't worth the downside. We've seen this before.

Cribbs, damn scary hit. I actually think he is lucky the helmet popped off carrying most of the force with it. Also, he has definitely lost a step on returns.

An exciting end of the game. Thank god for Phil Dawson though. He kept us in the game. 3 field goals of 50+ yards. Supposedly ties a record.

Young, young team.  They are going to make mistakes, as I believe you have said KJP.  Plus with 4-5 rookies on offense I think you have to have a conservative game plan.  Now obviously Little is extremely frustrating, there were at least 3 or 4 should be catches that would have made a huge difference in the game.

Don't forget though, this is a very very good Ravens team.  They completely embarrassed the Bengals on Opening Day.  I actually think the some of the rookies are ahead of where I thought they would be at this point.  This team is still so young that they haven't figured out how to win.  That is the biggest thing right now, and has been for awhile.

Remember to try and take away some positives from each game.  Like the Browns being competitive against an elite team, or our defense showing some skill at multiple positions and providing depth.

Is anybody still pro-Shurmur? In the last two weeks, I have moved completely into the he must be fired camp.

I think he's an idiot. His play-calling sucks, his choices of how to address under-performing players sucks, and the straw that broke my back was his comments about Joe Haden. When asked if he thought Joe let the team down, Shurmur said "no."

I wonder how Gruden or Dungy or Cowher would have answered that question.

"In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

I'll be really surprised if Shurmer is the coach next year.  Browns fans deserve a proven winner, not someone who is learning on the fly.

As an aside, I really can't stand Shurmer's press conferences. He and Eric Wedge - just terrible to listen to.

Add to the fact that we have 2 (or 3 if we include Holgren) serviceable ex-NFL head coaches on the staff that could take over for the remainder of the year, I can't wait for Haslam to take over the reigns.

I keep waiting to see the cameras cut to Childress in the booth either banging his head on the desk in frustration or mouthing the words "This guy is a f'in idiot".

More than that. I count four, including Holmgren, Childress, Jauron and Rhodes. OBTW......

Cleveland Browns: Jimmy Haslam's First Move Should Be to Fire Pat Shurmur

By Bill Smith (Correspondent) on October 2, 2012

Jimmy Haslam will face many issues when he takes power after the NFL vote on Oct. 16. One of the most significant issues is what to do about head coach Pat Shurmur.

For several reasons, I believe that Shurmur should be dismissed. The sad part is that only a few of these reasons are the fault of Shurmur. Many more are the fault of team president Mike Holmgren.  I will have more to say about that in a future article here on the Bleacher Report.

The biggest issue is Shurmur’s lack of experience. He had only been an offensive coordinator in St. Louis for two years before being named head coach of the Browns. And those two years were not successful. His lack of experience causes him to challenge plays that are, by rule, not challengeable. Often, he uses time outs because it takes him so long to come up with a play call. Then, during crunch time, we have no time outs left.

^Sorry forgot Rhodes.

I know this team isn't good, but talent wise they should be able to win 3 or 4 games out of the last 16.

So the Browns have two TDs on the board with just under 10mins left in the FIRST quarter.

Spoke too soon.

Hahahahahahhahahahaha.  The Browns.  Hahahahahahahahaha.
