Maybe it's since I wasn't a browns fan in the glory days or whatever but I wouldn't mind a helmet logo but if we were to have a logo I would prefer a revised brownie elf...maybe make him look tougher. (Don't rip me apart :) )

I mean maybe it's time like I said I'm the modern fan but I would love them with or without the logo

I agree. A mascot/logo please!!!

When I ask myself what a Brown is, I don't like the answer! Give me something else to picture!

Also, I like the metallic helmets.

What does a Brown look like?  Like this:

I'm also a young-ish browns fan, but I don't want to say anything other than the current uniform, or any of the slight variations of the past.

Sounds like the Chip Kelly talk is getting really serious.  Allegedly the Eagles have given up their pursuit of Kelly now.

Just finished the interview, was seven hours long. Evidently he is now interviewing with the Bills, but Cleveland is apparent front runner. -According to Chris Mortensen

We have a logo!

Just one you can put on a helmet! :)

Veering off topic a bit, but since we're talking about changes, why don't we use our fight song more? Living in DC, I'm constantly being inundated by Hail to the Redskins, and I think it's really cool how the whole stadium sings it at Fed Ex after a touchdown.

28.  I started following the Browns in the early-mid 90s.  In my mind, the old days were Eric Metcalf, Vinnie Testaverde and MDP.

Just my own opinion, but I actually do like the cartoon Brownie as it is.  I do not like the bulldog logo that seems the be favored.

Haha I'm 20 my definition of the old days as a fan are Tim Couch, William Green, Dennis Northcutt, Courtney Brown, oh and can't forget "Big Money" Gerard Warren.

I do like the Brownie as is but I would like to see how a revised one would look. I feel that we will get a logo eventually

We can draft Johnny Football Manzell in two or three years to fit his system :) did you see his game last night?! He would be perfect!! :)

So after meeting with the Browns for seven hours yesterday, Chip Kelly met with the Bills and now it seems the Eagles are back in the picture. Eagles execs are flying out to Arizona to meet Kelly. I've got a feeling that Kelly is going to play a leverage game and cost the winning team more than he's actually worth. Kelly is a huge, unproven risk. No one knows how well he'll perform in the NFL. I've got concerns that if he wants a loaded Brinks truck, the Browns better go with someone proven like Lovie Smith or Ken Whisenhunt.

This guy has had some interesting updates to share.....

Cleveland Browns meeting with Oregon's Chip Kelly tonight, "Be ready for something to happen today'' source says

CLEVELAND -- The Browns will meet again with Oregon coach Chip Kelly tonight in Arizona and hope to reach an agreement by the end of the meeting that will make him their 14th fulltime head coach.

Mortensen said today that  one issue for Kelly with the Browns is their uncertain quarterback situation. The Browns have Brandon Weeden, Colt McCoy and Thad Lewis all under contract, but Kelly apparently doesn't see his man in the bunch.

"If he becomes their coach, one consensus has been reached,'' Mortensen said. "The Browns don't have their quarterback of the future on the roster.''

If that's true, the Browns will look for a starter in the draft, free agency or through a trade.

Should we revise the poll to ask about #wins for 2013?

As a Bengals fan, I'm fascinated by the current transition the Browns are undergoing.  It's clear new ownership is interested in shaking things up and getting a big-time coach in there.  If they get Chip Kelly, that will be an impressive statement of commitment, regardless of how he pans out.

That said, from a football perspective, I think it's a high-risk/high-reward potential hire.  I think college coaches have transitioned to the NFL better of late (Harbaugh, Pete Carroll, Schiano), and clearly the league has actually begun to adopt some of the read-option/spread college offensive elements.  I think it will be very interesting to see if Kelly translates to the NFL--which could mean his system translates, or that he adapts his system. He could be terrific.  Of course, there are plenty of college coaches who flamed out, too, but that's the same with NFL assistants.  I think the unique offense he presumably brings makes it a little different than hiring, say, Harbaugh or Carroll (both of whom had NFL backgrounds).

I also think it's a very important hire just from the timing perspective in the division.  I think looking at the personnel and salary situations of the teams, the Ravens and Steelers are descending after a long period at the top.  The Bengals and Browns both have a golden opportunity to put themselves in perennial playoff contention (though you could argue that the Bengals have already done that, averaging 8 wins a year under Marvin and having only 3 losing seasons in ten, which means they are always at least around the playoff picture).  There really seems to be an opportunity to step up in the division.  Will hiring someone like Kelly--and, as rumored above, jettisoning Weeden--set that development back?  Or could it even move it forward, if Kelly decides he wants to run his offense with a veteran like Alex Smith or Vick?

Either way, I think it's going to be fascinating if the Browns do get Kelly.

Browns trying hard to lose Chip Kelly....

Browns trying hard to lose Chip Kelly....

Why are they trying hard to LOSE him?

I know I'm bias since I a Bengals fan

Marone must be special because the Bills interviewed Lovie and picked Marone over him....I honestly hope that he pics the Eagles (Apparently the favorites due to the type of players they have) and we get a coach with experience (Smith, Whisenhunt, Arians in that order)

Well, no Chip Kelly. He slow-danced with Tampa Bay last year and then went back to school. And now he slow-danced with Philadelphia and Cleveland and may be going back to school again. I think this guy just loves attention and the thrill of being pursued hot and heavy by billionaires. I think its time for the Browns to take a shower and go back home and get someone steady and reliable.

Actually I think Cleveland already realized this Chris Mortenson from ESPN reported that the Browns are continuing their search for a coach without Chip Kelly in the mix and this was reported about 20 minutes ago. I do agree that he seems to love the chase and was never intending to leave...how selfish but anyway the search continues!! :)

Maybe Bruce Arians can be more of a focus now with the Colts out of the playoffs...

Hope so. I like him.

Is he out of the hospital yet?  Rough year for Colts coaches.  :(

Supposed to be out today. Its just the flu, not cancer.

That's good.  I had only heard that he was in the hospital, not what the cause was.  Must have been one rough case of the flu to cause him to miss a playoff game.

Fair or unfair (and probably due to the timing of his hospitalization), Arians' age and health kind of concerns me.

I really wanted Bill O'Brien, but at this point I guess I would be okay with Whisenthunt.

Talks of the Browns pursuing Jon Gruden are surfacing, also the Plain Dealer is reporting that the Browns plan to pursue Bruce Arians as well. The head scratchier comes in with talks of the Browns interviewing Montreal Alouettes coach  Marc Trestman, anyone heard of this team or coach because I haven't.

Apparently Trestman is an offensive Guru that has a load of NFL experience but went to the CFL a few years ago for a HC position.

Steve Doerschuck wrote an article about Trestman for the Cantonrep.  The only things I know about him came from that article, but they really have me intrigued.  Apparently, Trestman worked with Brandon Weeden to get him ready for NFL workouts.  His website has an endorsement quote from both Weeden and Gruden.

Here is the article:

Trestman on radar could mean Gruden up Haslam’s sleeve

If the Browns don’t want Marc Trestman to be their head coach, would they chase him as offensive coordinator?

Jon Gruden’s offensive coordinator, perhaps?

That’s one fascinating question to pop up in owner Jimmy Haslam’s tricky first NFL offseason. Haslam and CEO Joe Banner scheduled an interview with Trestman, with Gruden lurking in the shadows of mystery.

Marc Trestman was the Browns' QB coach in 1988 and offensive coordinator in 1989. He was the OC for only one year, however. The reason is that in 1989, the Browns offense declined from its previous potency in 1986-88 under offensive guru Lindy Infante. While the Browns offense performed better toward the end of 1989 due to the improvement of the offensive line (protecting the pure pocket passer Bernie Kosar), it wasn't enough to save Trestman's job. He was replaced the following year by Jim Shofner, architect of the Browns "Kardiac Kids" offensive attack in which Brian Sipe threw for 4,000 yards in 1980. But that magic didn't return in 1990. Head Coach Bud Carson (former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive genius from the 1970s) was fired and Shofner served as interim head coach until Bill Belichick was hired the next year.

So Trestman had a bad experience in his short stint with the Cleveland Browns. But the team was suffering from declining talent and injuries on the offensive line that negatively impacted Kosar's performance until toward the end of the season when the O-line got healthier and played better. Kosar stands by Trestman and believes he would be a good hire as HC. I doubt he would be willing to come back to the NFL unless he was a HC.

While he may be an offensive guru he probably was that talented in the 80s and 90s the game has drastically changed and being in the CFL for a while doesn't make things much better in my eyes at least..

I don't think the game has changed as much as you think. The K-Gun, the Sugar Huddle, sideline huddle, sight adjustments, spread offenses were all common 20-25 years ago. Besides, the game still comes down to the basics of speed, blocking and tackling. If you run basic plays and you have guys who can execute them faster, run more elusively, and can hang on to the ball, and your defense can stop the other team with better players instead of better plays, you can beat anyone. The role of coaches is to prepare their players mentally and physically in a cohesive manner.

Trestman was with San Fran as late as the mid 2000's. It's not like he is Gruden or Cowher who have been out of coaching completely for 5 years. I am not endorsing Trestman but at least he still has the fire for coaching. I mean he went to the CFL for the opportunity to become a head coach.

I'm thinking that a coach out of the NFL for a few years is about as ready as someone that's been an offensive coordinator for a few years but never been in a head coach position. There's going to be a little learning curve, but the only guys out there with recent experience as a head coach in the NFL that don't already have a job are the guys that just got fired.

I was thinking..... how many re-treads have really worked out that well?  Parcells, I think, is the one who started this whole big name coach saves a downtrodden franchise bit.  I suppose Shanahan gong to Washington can somewhat fit that mold, although he didn't start winning until they mortgaged their future to get RGIII (and now it apepars he may not even play next year).  But just looking at recent history - Tom Coughlin, Mike McCarthy, Sean Payton, Mike Tomlin - the last four super bowl winners, did not have that pedigree.  Belichek didn't have it until hired by the Pats, same goes for Cowher with Pittsburgh, Dungy with Indy, Billick with Baltimore, Shannahan when he was with the Broncos.  Gruden took over Tampa based on his success with Oakland, but Tampa was already loaded and won the Super Bowl with the team in place when Gruden took over.

Soooooo....... why the need for a big name?  I remember Giants fans having panic attacks about Coughlin and he has got them 2 superbowl wins.  People questioned Tomlin's credentials and he has taken the Steelers to 2 superbowls.

the article alluded to cowher possibly wanting to return to coaching. he should have gotten it over carson back in the days. but arians or trestman would be ok.

Mike Zimmer is interviewing today.  I would be fine with him.  At least he plays a 4-3

Well that came out of nowhere!! I'm surprised too, although his resume in coaching offense is pretty good. Two of Phil Rivers best years at San Diego were when Chudzinski was OC. He did a decent job with Cam Newton and even Derrick Anderson had his one good year when Chud was the OC here. Watch Chud hire Norv Turner as his OC. Not sure who is DC will be, but I doubt he'll keep Jauron. Chud is the total opposite of Shurmur -- passionate, energetic, aggressive and attacks defenses. He's young too -- 44 years old. So I think the Browns hope he'll be here for many years.

I mostly agree. Who saw that one huh? My initial reaction was definitely negative, but I'm warming to the idea. Although, to say he did a decent job with Cam Newton also has to give him the blame for Newton's nose dive his sophomore year. But, I'm going to be optimistic about this one

Coach Chud!

Not jumping for joy, but I wasn't head over heals for any of the realistic candidates.  I'm glad hes not the type of guy that is going to need to reload on offensives personnel.  All the investments we made over the past 2 years should fit his system.

I just really hope he's agreeable to running a 4-3

CHUD is back in Cleveland!

I just wanted a proven coach this time around instead of a crap shoot with an OC turned coach again it would have given me more hope....but I will root for whoever is on the sidelines.......GO BROWNS!!!

Realistically guys, i didnt expect Haslem to hire someone who just got fired.  He is a competitive, agressive, high-risk high-reward businessman and is successful.  You think he wants to hire someone elses trash?  No way.  That would be inconsistent with his philosophy.  I agree.  If Wisenhut & co. were that great anywhere else they would still be there.  I like the hire, especially with Norv coming to town.  Im a little concerned about moving to a 3-4 defense, when our defense was really strong this year.  I fear Jabal SHeard may be useless.  BUT, offensively, we will be airing it out, no doubt.
