You throw the ball 56 times you will most likely lose the game. You can only pass protect for so long. It's pretty simple.

I don't have a problem with throwing 50+ times if most of your team's talent is in the passing game. But this team's best player is Richardson, not at QB or WR and not the right side of the OL. When the game started getting away from the Browns, they got away from their gameplan and stopped giving Richardson the ball. Richardson was having trouble getting through the line with the OLs and TEs missing their blocking assignments, and Weeden was getting too much pressure and he was making his usual panic throws when pressured. So I wondered why Richardson wasn't getting sent out to the flank or underneath so Weeden could use him as a relief valve and put Richardson in space.

Weeden deserved every INT thrown today, rifling 100 MPH heaters from 8 yards away high and outside, he's lucky he didn't throw a couple more picks with him staring down WR's then tossing scatterball's.  He left so many yards on the field by not hitting guys in stride and where they didn't have to leave their feet, etc..  It's a matter of time before he hits the pine then quits football, maybe he can go back to college and play another sport against kids.

Tell us how you really feel about the guy ;)

While Weeden can certainly work on his touch on short passes, NFL recievers are supposed to catch anything that hits them on the hands.  ANYTHING.  This is the NFL, not high school.  On two of those picks, we would have been better off with the recievers just letting them sail.  It was their tips which allowed for the picks.  I was watching SF-GB last night, and it was just mind-boggling how much both teams' recievers help their QBs out, by not just holding onto anything that is thrown within the target area, but also fighting the DBs for position and forcing their way to the ball.  Boldin must've made 5-6 catches which were far less than ideal throws.

Not to mention YAC, like Jermichael Finley's TD right before the half.

Weeden also benefitted from some great catches on poorly thrown balls yesterday, Little once again having to leave his feet and catch the back half of the ball and Cameron going up for and coming back down in bounds for the TD grab.  The Little INT was a short crossing route where Weeds threw high and wide, and the Cameron INT was just a terrible pass, luckily he didn't get injured with getting hung out by his QB.

Weeden had plenty of time in the 1st half and the noose slowly tightened as Miami saw he was incapable of making adjustments or do simple things like complete a screen pass (the missed screen to Richardson would've led to at least 25-30 YAC).

The OL play and WR drop excuses didn't work for McCoy and shouldn't work for Weeden either, and the trio of MoMass, Robo, and Robert Royal make Little, Bess, and Cameron look like the greatest show on turf, and Pashos/St. Clair make Schwartz look like Orlando Pace.

Weeden's days are numbered, week 3, 4, 5, just a matter of time.  Would be interesting to see how much Hoyer could squeeze out of this Offense.

Um... that game plan seemed to work out just fine for Miami.  They ran the ball 20 times for a whopping 23 yards.  They had better pass protection in the 2nd half of the game.

Um... did you even look at the box? Tannehill had just about the same amount of completions as Weeden in 38 attempts. It was a 3 pt. game in the fourth but we are throwing the ball around like we are down by 20. Give the ball to your most talented player at that point, which is Richardson and let him break one. Look at yesterdays game stats, unless it's one of those 'shootout' games the avg pass attempts for winning teams was around 35. That's usually the case.

and Cameron going up for and coming back down in bounds for the TD grab.

That pass was right where it was supposed to be.  He had to throw it high enough to make sure the defenders couldn't swat it down but still low enough for Cameron to have a chance.  There are a lot of things to knock Weeden for in this game, but criticizing a play that he actually executed fairly perfectly is not one of them.

I said he benefitted from some great catches as well and that was a good catch by Cameron going up for and coming back down in bounds.  We've had plenty of TE's around here that couldn't make that play.

But all 3 INT's were just bad passes; one under thrown into double coverage, one high and outside with zero touch to Little, and one high and behind to Cameron.  Weeden was also very close to throwing two pick-6's after staring down and throwing late to WR's.

The day started bad with Ray Lewis on Espn and went down from there.

the receiver core will be bad as long as little is a number one.  Gordon might make a great deal of difference, as he did last year.  I want to see what happens when the full offence is there.

Also, they stopped going to Richardson long before the game started getting out of hand.  On fourth and two, he wasn't even out there.

I was hoping Weeden would use Bess and Richardson as his go-to guys. But Weeden seems to short-circuit when he gets any pass pressure. If he can't address it, then we need to bench him and draft a new QB -- again.

Bess was used as the hot route much more in the second half.  I don't know for sure if that was on the coaches or Weeden, but hot routes are usually determined by the coaches.  QBs like Peyton Manning adjust them at the line, but he is on a level unseen in our times for doing that.

I agree that Gordon is a necessary component.  Benjamin can't cut it as our only threat beyond 15 yards.

I watched part of the game again and it just appears that Weeden needs to relax and get back to the mindset that this is a GAME.  He is supposed to be having fun.  He is too tight.  That said, Miami's pressure was unreal.  I originally thought that Weeden didn't have plenty of time, but did have sufficient time to get his throws off.  Not true on too many occasions.  Miami's rushers were getting to him before his recievers had much time to even develop a route, let alone enough time to step forward in the pocket.  Given that he is somewhat lacking in the quick feet department, we are going to have to make some adjustments in blocking schemes.  It appears that not keeping a blocking FB might have been a mistake.

Indians? According to this report, Cleveland isn't a good football town either. In fact, it's worse than some cities that don't even have a team.......

Wisconsinites are the NFL’s biggest fans

By Reid Wilson, Published: September 10 at 1:58 pm

The Dallas Cowboys may be America’s team, but the Green Bay Packers inspire the most rabid loyalty among their local fans.

More than half of residents in Green Bay, Wis. say they are very interested in the NFL, according to marketing data collected by Scarborough Research, a New York-based marketing firm. And about 46 percent of residents in the Milwaukee media market say they are very interested in the NFL, the data show.

New Orleans, Baltimore and Pittsburgh round out the top five markets with the highest percentages of fans who say they’re very interested in the NFL. More than a third of residents in Boston, Colorado Springs, Providence, Jacksonville, Kansas City, Indianapolis, Buffalo, Washington, Cincinnati, Denver and Minneapolis say they’re very interested too.

The Browns consistently rank amongst the top of charts for "loyal" fanbases.  Unfortunately we've lost so much population that it's scattered throughout the country.  The Brownsbacker bar in Denver shuts down the doors at 9 am on a game day due to overcrowding.

The Red Ivy in Wrigleyville gets pretty nuts too.

I lived in Denver for 6 years before asking for a relocation to Cleveland, best decision I ever made BTW.  Anyway, I went to the Browns Backers bar (the Retreat) in Denver several times and it was hardly crowded, and never once had to "shut the doors"??

And much of the Browns fan base also comes from people who have never lived in Cleveland or Ohio, run into those type all the time.

Consider how inferior the Browns have been compared to those other "top 5" teams.  What would New Orleans fan base look like if they hadn't broken out of loserdom.

^ some good defense material for Weeden I think.

^But not put together by some local joe simply trying to make excuses.  Weeden gets his fair share of the blame, but I appreciate the analysis because it goes beyond an elementary understanding of how interceptions happen

That was a great breakdown

Well, so far so good this week. It's looking like Miami is better than I thought and we're not as bad as I thought.

Careful with that!  It's only the third quarter and the browns are only up by six.  We need to get more on the board ASAP.

Best ravens drive of te game... See what you did CBC??

Time to put Greg Little on the bench and give a young, hungry receiver a chance to earn a spot.

He puts the "little" in "little catches..."

Sorry. If the Ravens kicker wasnt terrible, it would have been tied

What a waste of a playoff caliber D.  Good to see Mingo flash

I'm not sure I've ever seen a player like Little in the NFL.  As a WR, he does everything exceptional.... except catch the ball.  It would be like a LB with a real nose for the ball and the speed to get there, but can't tackle to save his life

Seriously, what happened to our OL.  It seemed as if they settled down a bit in the second half and offered some better pass blocking, but it is seemingly far from the elite unit it looks like on paper.  JT did not come to play this season.  He's the leader and needs to step his game up big time

The main issue continues to be an inability to create separation on passing routes beyond 10 yards before the pressure collapsing the pocket.  I'm hoping that Gordon's return next week fixes that issue to some degree.  At least it will force teams to take their #1cb off Little.  We'll see

Anybody else worried that Jim Brown's initial analysis of Richardson is closer to the truth than we'd like to admit?  He missed more than one cut back lane that would've netted him a huge gain.

I literally saw Cousins pushed over backwards in the first half without moving his feet. Oy!

As much as I despise Chuck Booms, I couldn't help but think about his United Skates of America bit watching Schwartz...

No wiggling out of this one.  You are probably the whole reason that they lost.  Ok, there may have been some other things.

I think I saw the cousins push that you are talking about.  There was a replay, and the right side defensive tackle (I think) pulled across and just pushed cousins straight back.  I think that's what I saw... But I have a tiny television.

WHOA!  Stop right there.  Let's keep this PG.

If you watch that play closely, Ngata pushes Cousins flat on his arse WHILE he is locked onto Mack.  That's how to play NT.  Occupy blockers are make a mess of things

Every time I see Ngata play, I think of a chuckling (under his breath) Ozzie Newsome telling Phil Savage something like "yeah, I can't do much better than a 6th rounder"

It was 18 years ago that I joined thousands of fellow Clevelanders in sending postcards, writing and faxing letters to the NFL offices, calling sports radio stations in AFC Central cities to ask their fans to also write the NFL offices to help us keep the Browns names, colors and history in Cleveland, then get an expansion team placed here.

Now in the 15th year into that expansion team, if that team announced it was leaving for LA, I wonder if I would fight it again. Hell, I might even help the Browns pack!

I do remember watching entertaining football games on network TV at 1 p.m. from 1996-98, as well as getting yardwork done, and otherwise enjoying my Sundays.

It would happen exactly the same way again.  Before November, 1995, Browns fans were pretty irked with team management.  People had mixed feelings about art modell (then) but not about david, who everybody from Gries and Lerner to the office personnel despised.  A rather prominent alumni from that era once told me that "honey boy" would stomp around the field during pregame like he was a coach, and the players would spit on his back.

Nevertheless, they were, and are, a critical institution and one of our strongest points of regional identity.  Hell, even the trees wear orange and brown during the fall.

you like the indians after they sucked for forty years, why so violently oppose the browns?

I wouldn't say that I like the Indians. They're barely watchable and only then against losing teams. I haven't watched an Indians game all the way through this season except for the two games I attended this year. While I can't give my heart to the Tribe, I am sick of the Browns. To me, they're like the family member you've defended time and again and who continues to disappoint you. Sooner or later, you just want him to go away so you can get on with your life.

Yep. Made complex by watching Cleveland pro sports since the '70s -- the first of four championship-free decades in a row, and still counting.

Amen.

I used to love going to Tribe games in the mid 1990's surrounded by so-called "superfans" who bought their Omar Visquel Tshirt on the way to the game from a gas station and couldn't name a player pre-1994.

Those of us who grew up with Sid Monge and Grover as a player knew the true Cleveland sports!

I was born in 1978, so my suffering started with Bernie and Joe Carter. I honestly didn't watch basketball until we landed Lebron so I was spared the pain of the Ehlo/Price teams.

I finally put my finger on what has me so jaded. Our last two regime changes have spent a year with the same crappy players of the previous team. Rip the freaking band-aid off.

^I agree completely. Throw out the QB and the WR's and start from scratch. If you're going to suck, at least clean house in the process, and start over.

Personally, I'm not watching any games, and neither is my 8yo son (he hasn't even asked. He did homework while the Browns were on yesterday). We've both just lost interest in the team. We'll usually watch an afternoon game, or maybe the first quarter of the Sunday night game before he goes to bed. His team? The Green Bay Packers.

BTW, KNR this morning has been pretty much been all Johnny Manziel / 2014 draft. Keep hope alive!

IMO, each regime has come in and kept some crappy overrated players while trading and cutting some of their best players.

What's all this fascination with Johnny Football?? He's one of the few people I would enjoy see folded in half backwards by a rabid linebacker. Also, McCarron outplayed him on Saturday. And besides, McCarron's girlfriend is hotter. So there's that....

"Quincy Morgan gonna play Quincy Morgan football. You better bleee dat!"

-Quincy Morgan

- - Kenny Roda

At this point, about the only thing the Browns could do to make me not want to watch them more is draft Johnny Football.

The Holmgren/Heckert combo are to blame for the crap we're seeing on the field, starting with the Julio Jones trade, which was a good trade from a pick perspective.  But Phil Taylor and Greg Little in the 1st/2nd round?  Why not Kaepernick, Torrey Smith, Randall Cobb?  Then they completely screwed the pooch with Richardson & Weeden in the 1st last year.  BTW - Ward, another 2nd round Heckert gem stinks too, can't cover, can't catch, but has a mean scowl.

In reality, Richardson was drafted as a jersey & ticket seller, and Browns fans bought it hook, line, & sinker.  Moving up one 1 spot to #3 by giving away 3 add'l picks was just salt in the wound.  The Weeden pick was a desperation pick and a complete and utter fail, he may go down as the new benchmark for bad picks in Cleveland, and that's saying something.

I can't stand Johnny Goofball either, but he can play and we need good PLAYERS.  Switch teams with McCarron & Johnny and Alabama beats A&M by 4-5 TD's.  Richardson, Ingram, and some other Alabama skill players have looked like Hall of Famer's in college playing for Saban, but have done nothing in the NFL.
