Campbell isn't a long term solution, but he might be good enough to last till we find someone that is. All I ask is that someone teach him how to slide.

I went to the game as well and it was awesome. I have to give a standing ovation to the Browns defense. The reigning Super Bowl champions were held under 20 points, and their leading rusher was their QB.

 

I will say when Cameron went down you could hear the air being sucked out of the stadium.

I noticed it suddenly got a lot colder in the stadium when Campbell went down.

 

This season is about the Browns earning some self-respect and the respect of other teams. Depending on how the draft and free agency goes, next season will be about gaining respect from everyone else. At this point, I now think the Browns could end with a 7-9 season assuming we don't suffer anymore major injuries and Campbell continues to play relatively well.

^Only three more wins?  We still have Jax on the schedule and play Pittsburgh twice.  We also play two banged up teams in the Bengals and Bears, and a completely unpredictable Jets team.  If they don't finish at least 8-8, I would be highly disappointed.  At New England is really the only overwhelmingly tough game we have left.

Jacksonville is the only game that I'm confident about a win.

 

Pittsburgh is having a bad year, but they're not terrible. Both games against them will be close. I'll be happy with one win.

 

The Bengals are banged up, but they're still formidible and mad that we caught them by surprise. It'll be a tough game.

 

The Bears, well yeah we've got chance in that one, but it'll be close too.

 

The Jets and Patriots are away games in December against a team that'll be fighting for wildcard spot and a team that'll be fighting for homefield advantage. I have low hopes for both.

I'm confident in only three more wins as I expect only one win against Pittsburgh, a victory against Jacksonville and one more win against either Pittsburgh on the road or Chicago. I don't see both. A win against Cincinnati or the Jets would be a pleasant surprise. A win against New England would be a shocker. Sure, 8-8 is possible but 7-9 is likely. But's that better than what I expected after the Green Bay game. I was wondering if we could win five games.

I can buy no LESS than 3 more wins..... but I have to think we are good enough to win more and odds are that we will IMHO.

 

Consider this impressive stat which they highlighted during the game yesterday.  The Browns defense is #1 in the entire NFL in yards allowed per play.  They held Baltimore under the average we were leading the league at, so the average actually went down yesterday.  I like that stat regardless, but what makes it even more impressive is that the Browns defense has been on the field (mostly due to the 3 and outs from our offense) more than all but three defensive units.  That pass play yesterday to Smith was actually the longest pass they have surrended all season.

For the most part, I'm very pleased with the defense. I didn't like how we played against Detroit, Green Bay and even Minnesota (does the NFC North have the answer to the Browns defense??). I DVR'd the game and watched it last night and saw the yards-allowed-per-play stat. I would feel better about our defense if our offense could run the ball better and give the defense more rest. I'd like to see the Browns give Ogbonnaya the starting running back job and see what he can do. But our offensive line is so bad at run-blocking that I wonder if that would make any difference.

The Browns going 8-8 would be bittersweet.  It would be nice to see a .500 season, but at the same time, 4 more wins for Campbell would definately create a QB contoversery next year...again....That being Hoyer and Campbell.

Since I'm a younger fan and haven't had the privilege of witnessing the Browns glory days and seeing the Browns higher in the standings than the Steelers, I find it VERY pleasing to talk trash to the Steelers fans and be able to back it up!

Oh I do. Considering how many quarterbacks take a dive, we need three QBs. Look no farther than the Browns. And consider that if Campbell couldn't return to the game against Baltimore and then Weeden went down, MarQueis Gray would have been quarterbacking for the Cleveland Browns. Actually, he took one snap as the QB Sunday when the Browns went into the wildcat formation.

COMMENTARY | The Cleveland Browns have a shot at the playoffs. Yes, it might sound strange, but after finally beating Joe Flacco and the Baltimore Ravens--their first victory over the quarterback since he came into the league in 2008--the Browns are just one game behind the surprising 5-4 New York Jets for a Wild Card berth.

 

And the AFC North Division isn't out of reach either.

 

If the Browns can build off their recent performances during their bye week and clinch a sweep of the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 11, they could potentially steal the division. A playoff berth is something we all thought would eventually come given the vast amount of young talent that has been cultivating on the shores of Lake Erie. But for it to happen so soon, in coach Rob Chudzinski's first season, would be a truly remarkable turn of events.

Exactly. We beat Cincy, and then Cincy is on their bye. Then we play Pittsburgh here, then Jacksonville. We could realistically win the next three games and go 7-5.

Andy Dalton stinks. Yet he managed to outplay Campbell in this all important game.

Campbell wasn't great today, but he was better than Andy Dalton who, amazingly, throws 2 picks and only for 93 yards total, but his team blows us out... But our Special Teams were disasterous; 2 blocked punts and a terrible long punt return for Packman Jones.

So is the check down offense a receiver problem or a QB confidence problem? I know Cincy has great DBs but that was ridiculous.

I was asking because CBS never shows down field and focuses on the pocket the whole time so I have no idea what the receivers look like against the coverage. Even when he's ineffective Campbell shows how absolutely terrible Weeden is, at least his check downs get to the receivers most of the time.

Not that I think Campbell did anything to win us the game, but 21 points coming off 2 blocked punts and a fumble return for a TD doesn't help, especially when you lose by 21 (as well as the long punt return).  Our special teams (well, specifically our punting game) is what really cost us the game today.

he also threw a pick 6 and was gifted ten points from our defense.  He didn't have a good game from any perspective. 

I'm not saying he had a good game.  But the way the game went, I think we lose about 55-6 with Weeden at QB.

 

Also, Campbell did not throw a pick 6.  A penalty brought that back.

 

Basically, we just sucked all the way around.  But the special teams sucked the most.

Yeah, you're right.  I do tend to forget that Weeden actually did put up some decent numbers at times.  Maybe it's because when he's bad, he's just so bad it's hard to believe he could ever do anything right out there.

Same here.  I'm not sure what was going on because in his last two starts he was very aggressive in throwing downfield, throwing some passes which were probably ill-advised (and some of them turned into lucky completions).  It's almost like they watched the video and the coaches stressed too much that he needs to be more careful with where he throws the ball and he got timid.

Just listened to the press conference on the stadium improvements. Sounds like the Browns are fronting all $120 M and the city will contribute roughly $40m in monies over 15 years that were already in the lease.

Nice gif, I was at that game, I've celebrated the crashing and burning of Tebow's career ever since.

The announcers for CBS sure seemed to think the problem was receivers not getting open.  I heard them say it several times.  Would have been nice to have seen it myself, though.

^^but yet Rich Gannon was extremely critical of Campbell's timid play.  I've been saying it all year..... NFL QBs have to be able to trust that their WRs will "win" the ball.  You need receivers who can make catches no matter whether they are open or not.  If you watch Rogers play for GB, you can see several passes each game which would be picked if his WR's don't fight through the DB and go get the ball.  When u have guys like Gordon and Little matched up against some 5'9 DB, you have to be able to trust them to win the 50/50 ball.

 

That said, I am wondering if Campbell's rib injuries hindered his ability to throw deep.  Someone was on the radio yesterday sayig that Campbell was grimacing during warmups

Thanks for saying that Hts. As long as the pass isn't low and infront of those two, let them earn their paychecks and bring it down. Heck, sometimes I think the Jump ball is the only pass little can catch.

I've wondered that too. If he was still hurting after a bye week, either the injury was worse than originally reported or he re-aggravated it.
