Gee, I wonder if Jacksonville will be favored next week?

The Brown's offense is unwatchable.

Stanky

4 Turnovers. You just can't overcome that. At least it was better than the 5 last week.

This QB is a joke.

I wouldn't be upset that even if we win Brandon Weeden is cut, I shouldn't have to hold my breath or my heart shouldn't skip a beat when a ball is thrown deep.

Wow.  That was ugly

Weeden had over 300 yards passing, so he can't be all that bad. ;)

It's awesome that Josh Gordon had back-to-back games of 200+ yard receiving for the first time in NFL history!

It's so sadly predictable that the Cleveland Browns would lose BOTH games.

The same defense that basically stated last week that the offense is costing them games, did the same thing this week. I blame Phil Taylor and more importantly Joe Haden for this game. Joe blew coverages a few too many times this game.

I'd blame the loss on the 4 big disasters committed by the offense: 2 INTs, fumble, and safety. Jacksonville started at the 17, 28, 33, and 43 following each of those mistakes. That's 11 (3, 3, 3, and 2) points at the very least, turned out to be 18 points off of offensive errors. The game winning drive by the Jags was bad, but the defense shouldn't have been in that position in the first place.

Usually I would blame it on the offense for a game like this (They do get some blame from me), BUT they clawed back and finally got the lead on what seemed to be a momentum shifting 95 yard pass touchdown. Then the defense who for the second half was very good, made major errors that cost us the game first it was the face mask penalty from Phil Taylor, then Joe Haden who should have known to give him the underneath bit on a double move to cost us the game. I'm sorry but to finally have a good offensive game like that and then have the usually great defense be the the one to blow it hurts, even Joe knew he blew the game if you saw him on the sideline.

I guess we are going to see trick passes next week, Weeden has a concussion

I guess we are going to see trick passes next week, Weeden has a concussion

We've been seeing trick blocking, trick tackling, trick snapping, and trick pass defense, might as well see some trick passing.

The Browns are nothing more than the Washington Generals of the NFL, it's all show biz anyway.

I guess we are going to see trick passes next week, Weeden has a concussion

I saw some tweets that Chud said in his postgame presser that Weeden was given the concussion protocol and was in the clear.

I'm sure Campbell will be starting next week.

Gordon was given the protocol when he went to the locker room, he was cleared and came back out.  We'll see if there's a fine for the helmet to helmet shot he took.

If we were contending, there'd be a lot more talk about the final TD pass being an obvious bobble that the refs refused to overturn despite what even the CBS guys found to be clear evidence.  The NFL needs full time referees.

Weeden is not, physically, a bad QB.  If the sideline pass to Gordon last week had been thrown by Brady, either Manning, or Luck we'd see that highlight all year.  He goes through these devastating mental lapses.  This should be curable, but will the game slow down enough for him before age slows him down.

What you say is true but we won't be able to find out if age will begin to slow him down because I guarantee the Browns release him and keep at least Hoyer with a new QB getting drafted. Having 8 INTs in 5 games is unacceptable from anyone. He just launches the ball and hopes for the best and that can't happen if you want to be successful. He will be gone this off season and if the Browns had Campbell AND Hoyer healthy he would have been gone.

Assuming that there was some trade talk surrounding Josh Gordon... I don't care what the Browns were asking for him, whatever team turned down that offer (what-ev-er it was) is absolutely kicking themselves.

Gordon has been the best fantasy pick up I've ever made.  He truly is a stud...if only he had a more reliable QB situation. It does look like the pieces are starting to come together for the Browns. A mostly solid D complete with one of the top 'shut down' corners (Haden), a #1 receiver, promising TE. Just need to get the QB and RB situation figured out.

And the move to get rid of Richardson appears to be a good one.  I eat my words from earlier in the season. I just don't know how he could have been such a game changer last year, and so utterly pathetic this year.  I went to the Browns/Bengals game last year, and Richardson was a force to be reckoned with. Made great runs, catches, yards after catches, and was hard to bring down. Now? Almost entirely a non-factor.  Gotta feel good about that draft pick from the Colts now.

Turns out you were right. Weeden is still going through the concussion protocols and hasn't been cleared.

I completely disagree.  Something I haven't seen anybody mention around here is how awful his accuracy is.  He almost never puts the ball right on the money.  Watch replays of even his completed passes.  Often times, the receiver has to cut off his route, or reach back, or dive, and often times YAC are sacrificed.  His first reception of the game to Gordon was an underthrow that worked out (it's excusable, but it wasn't a great throw by any means).  The long touchdown pass to Gordon was a bad throw that probably should have been picked off (which is the only reason the defender was so out of position when Gordon did miraculously still catch it).  I don't know why Cameron didn't make an effort to break up the first interception, but the ball was way behind him.  The long post to Gordon in the first half wasn't where it needed to be (especially when throwing to a big receiver deep over the middle) and turned what was probably an easy touchdown into an incomplete pass.  Even at the end of the game, with no pressure on him and the Jaguars secondary in the prevent, he missed horribly on a 2 yard pass over the middle to Ogbonnaya.  A few games ago, he started out by sailing a few balls about 10 feet over the receivers' heads.  His throws are so ridiculously wild, sometimes I wonder if he's closing his eyes before he throws it.

And accuracy was supposed to be one of his strengths (along with arm strength, which he undoubtedly does have).  Let's not even get into his footwork and mobility.

I don't think accuracy has so much to do with physical gifts.  Weeden had some inaccurate throws, but he also had a few throws neither Campbell or Hoyer could make.  The type of throws only somebody that can throw the ball 30 yards on a rope can make.  Given his arm strength and the spin he can consistently put on the ball, I would be all in favor of letting his accuracy develop.  But it's his feet which can't be fixed.  He's never going to be able to overcome that physical obstacle to him being a good NFL QB

It's funny because I was led to believe that accuracy was his strength.  I remember a"sports science" episode where he was nailing clay pigeons with a football.  I suppose it's different with a 300lb man chasing you.

Sigh. Chud wouldn't even name a starting QB today. Just when you thought you have seen it all, we manage a new low. Why didn't we have a practice squad QB who at least knew our play book?

Given his arm strength and the spin he can consistently put on the ball, I would be all in favor of letting his accuracy develop.

Sure, you can improve accuracy a little.  But it's kind of like a pure shooter in basketball vs. Shaq...some people just have touch and better muscle control or whatever causes you to be accurate.  I really do think a lot of it is a physical gift.  Regardless, I'm not sure you can "let accuracy develop" with a 30 year old NFL quarterback.

Weeden's screen passes do remind me of Shaqs free throws now that you mention it.

It just seems that he lacks the ability to see the whole field. Which leads to him making bonehead decisions. I think the best example would be the cheesy animation in "pushing Tin" where the air traffic controllers spatially visualize the dots on the radar. Weeden just jumps from dot to dot not seeing the big picture. He's a bust, next topic please....

Yeah, I think it is a matter of poor peripheral vision, poor timing with WRs, and a consequential psychological downspiral from there.  I also agree that his "touch" on short passes leaves a lot to be desired.  But I'd bet if the NFL had something the equivalent of a 3-point contest for QBs, Weeden would do quite well.  Doing it at gamespeed with 300 lb manimals looking to tear his head off is another story...

Weeden is the classic example of million dollar arm and 10 cent head, along with not having the competitive fire that an NFL QB must have.  He'll be lucky to be in the NFL in 2 years.

Now I'm hoping the new Browns regime has learned to stay away from Big 12 QB's, even Bog Griffin has turned out to be fools gold.

92.3 just reported that the Browns announced Campbell is cleared to practice. They still have to make a final determination as to if he'd clear for game action.

This game is giving me high blood pressure..... :whip:

its kind of hard to believe what im seeing here. they are really playing tough. campbell makes all the difference.

NFL needs new refs

That pass interference call was atrocious. You never make a call late in the game unless it's an obvious pass interference.Obviously, we're not going anywhere but watching that bullshit infuriates me.

I'm looking through my tweets and media headlines and wondering why is everyone so surprised at the outcome of this game?? THIS IS THE CLEVELAND BROWNS. They lose games most teams win and they lose them in the most bizarre ways.

It's why I shut off the game after the Browns went up 26-14 with more than 2 minutes left on the clock and Tom Brady on the other team. I knew it would be a horrible loss for the Browns. I've seen this way too many times since I started watching the Browns in the 1970s. THIS IS NORMAL.

This isn't the referees fault either. Nor is it not the defense's fault for letting a quarterback pull out the game at the end for the second week in a row, despite shutting them down for the rest of both games. It's not the special teams' fault for letting the Patriots recover an onside kick for the first time since... when and against whom? Since they did it against the Browns 20 years ago! See? ? ? It's because the Browns are the most star-crossed, cursed, rotten team in the NFL since the Browns did something wrong decades ago and pissed off the football gods after their last championship three years before I was born.

And next year we get to celebrate 50 years of football futility in Cleveland as it will be the golden anniversary of the Browns' last NFL championship.

Why did we ask for a new, even worse NFL team after the old Browns left? Why didn't we just let ourselves live in peace? Why don't we let this team go, too? Why? Because in less than five years after we let this piece of crap team leave Cleveland, it too will win a Super Bowl just like the old Browns did. That's why. I will bet my condominium on it.

No arguments here.  BTW - we were born in the same year (67), vintage.

you forgot the part where you're never going to watch the browns again lol!

Until next Sunday! Lol

We've  been cursed since Modell ran off Jim Brown. That was what they determined on Baskin and Phelps the other week...

I wish I would have tweeted or facebooked my quote.  I was in my local bar in the French Quarter with 3 minutes left, and everyone was congratulating me (pretty much THE Browns fan in the 1/4) and I said

"There ain't no way the refs will let the Browns win, it will be like Chicago all over again"

In the event I cursed the Browns with my declaration, I apologize.

Especially when you've just made a dubious call to give the team on offense the ball.  It did not look like Whittaker touched that onsides kick.

The grounding call on Campbell and non-call on Brady were shady as well.

NFL needs new refs

They need full time refs.  The idea that franchises are worth in the billion dollar range and they use elderly part timers is ridiculous.

I think Whittaker touched the onsides kick, but that doesn't make the PI call any less bad.

Was really too much to ask to get the Bengals the #2 seed!??! At least for a week. jeez. :-)

you forgot the part where you're never going to watch the browns again lol!

Until next Sunday! Lol

I think it's the car-wreck syndrome. You can't help but look at it.

In the event I cursed the Browns with my declaration, I apologize.

You didn't. It's the Browns. It's bad enough that the NFL/ESPN conglomerate hates Cleveland. But the Browns create enough of their own bad karma without "help" from others.

"In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

I want to know what kind of deal Boston fans made with the devil to consistently pull shite like this off...

I think Whittaker touched the onsides kick, but that doesn't make the PI call any less bad.

Agree.  But let's not also forget about the other terrible call in the last couple minutes.  The unnecessary roughness call on the first touchdown (before the onside kick).  The Brown's DB (don't remember who it was) simply put his shoulder into the Patriot's receiver and tried to jar the ball lose.  He didn't spear him, he didn't hit him after the receiver took a few steps, he hit him with his shoulder within the first step after the receiver came down.  That terrible call moved the kickoff up 15 yards and gave them the ball at the browns 40 after they inevitably recovered the onside kick (nice play by NE btw).

Just some bad officiating yesterday.
