I know it wasn't technically the wrong call, but the NFL should also take another look at the intentional grounding rules.  Brady would've been sacked (or worse) late in the game but he threw the ball at the feet of a running back who WAS BLOCKING ALONG WITH THE REST OF THE O-LINE.  He was unquestionably "intentionally grounding" the ball to avoid a sack.  The RB wasn't even turned around to look for a pass, even if he was technically an "eligible receiver" (which made the no-call techically correct).

Yet the refs chose to call intentional grounding on Campbell when he was far outside of the tackle box and there was an eligible receiver in the area.

that grounding call on Campbell was terrible.  It made me wonder if i knew what the right rule was.

and the ball went past the LOS.

Oh yeah.... I had forgot about that call.  That was the worst call of the day, by far.  It was the worst call I've seen in a long time.  However, it was not memorable, because we still completed the ensuing 3rd and 17.

But it knocked the Browns out of field goal range.

Yeah, but we converted the third down, so it's a moot point in the end.  Intentional grounding is a loss of down penalty.  Without the penalty, we would've been at 3rd and 7.  With the penalty, we were set back to 3rd and 17, which we made on that pass to Gordon.  It still was an awful, inexcusable call...... but it didn't end up affecting the outcome.

I think Whittaker touched the onsides kick, but that doesn't make the PI call any less bad.

Agree.  But let's not also forget about the other terrible call in the last couple minutes.  The unnecessary roughness call on the first touchdown (before the onside kick).  The Brown's DB (don't remember who it was) simply put his shoulder into the Patriot's receiver and tried to jar the ball lose.  He didn't spear him, he didn't hit him after the receiver took a few steps, he hit him with his shoulder within the first step after the receiver came down.  That terrible call moved the kickoff up 15 yards and gave them the ball at the browns 40 after they inevitably recovered the onside kick (nice play by NE btw).

Just some bad officiating yesterday.

Forgot about this one.  Yes, there was that too.

True, but it was indeed symptomatic of the bias.  Especially when Brady didn't get called on his.

Greg Little was on "that show" yesterday and someone quoted him (in his presence) of having mentioned a couple weeks earlier that there are "Tom Brady rules".  He didn't contradict them.

Is Josh Gordon the most talented skill position player we have seen in a Browns uniform in the last 50 years?  I can't think of anyone who I would put ahead of him.

He's had some fantastic games, but it's still a bit early in his career to go that far IMO. I'm not prepared to say he's better than Newsome till we've seen a couple more consistently great seasons.

I was careful to use the word "talented"...... I realize others have better long term production, of course.  In terms of short-term production, we already know Gordon is all by himself all-time, leaguewide.  No NFL receiver has ever had the 4 games he has had, from an individual statistical standpoint.

Well he must have some talent after breaking the Browns single season receiving record as far as yards and only playing in 11 games with 3 more to go.

And our lead rusher last week too.

A few words on Josh Gordon

DEC 10 11:17AM ET

By Pat McManamon | ESPN.com

Numbers simply do not do enough to measure the impact and achievement of Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon the past month.

Which is significant because the numbers for Gordon are off the charts.

In the past four games, he has 36 receptions for 774 yards and five touchdowns. He also has averaged 21.5 yards per catch.

This is a season’s work for some receivers.

Jim Ingraham: Josh Gordon shows signs of greatness

By Jim Ingraham, The News-Herald & The Morning Journal

It’s epic. It’s historic. It’s what fans in Cleveland so rarely get to enjoy in our little village of sporting sorrow.

The blossoming of sheer athletic greatness.

Josh Gordon this year is having the greatest season of any receiver in Browns history, maybe the greatest season in Browns history by any offensive player not named Jim Brown.

Gordon is having one of the greatest seasons by any Cleveland professional athlete ever, and one of the greatest seasons by any receiver in NFL history.

Holy crap that was cold....Bears fans in front of us were obnoxious, but I still had a good time. Browns are just losers until they figure out how to win.

I saw how they treated Aaron Rodgers when flying in grill class. Horrible.

^I wish they had been grilling brats for us.

It was a group of twenty somethings that spent more time with their backs to the field jawing than watching the game. You would have thought we were getting destroyed instead of being a one score game the entire time. Bears fans are now up there with Yankees and Red Sox fans in my book. They were all over but the ones in front of me were the worst.

Well, at least we don't start street car projects and then cancel them half way through. Go Browns

Neither do we :D

Who Dey

^And people wonder why the rest of the country thinks Ohio is so dad'gum 'country'......

so all is well so far. the o is playing loose and with great intensity, 10-0. but you know, dropped passes, ankle tackles, somewhat inaccurate passes, the usual shite is keeping the score down. go brownies!

its like 70degrees today, will be a record. i dk why i didnt go out to the game today in the meadowlands. big mistake.

spoke too soon haha! 10-10 at the half.

well, im glad im off until after the new year. i wouldnt hear the end of it. and from jets fans. jets fans! how mortifying...

the lowliest creatures roaming this green earth.

yeah and with the foot fetish coach, whos job we probably just saved. yeesh.

Yeesh, like having to watch the Jets play wasn't punishment enough, I'm subjected to this? You're a cruel, cruel lot.

^ those are freakin hilarious - that kid needs to be bottled and poured out on special occasions lol! at least there was zero cursing, which is very surprizing for this town where the 'ef' word flows like water.

Yeah, that's going to be cute for about another year or two, then he's going to need a good beating.

^ because hes the peter pan of smak, huh?

Yeah, that's going to be cute for about another year or two, then he's going to need a good beating.

I was thinking the same thing-- he has a hard lesson to be learned when he's not so cute....

Wow.  More Pro Bowlers than wins.  JT, Mack, Flash, Haden, and Cameron.  Ward named as an alternate.  I think Ward and Cameron should be switched, but it is hard to argue with any of those picks from an individual performance standpoint.  I wonder how much consideration Phil Taylor got..... he's my defensive MVP.  Kind of odd that we had four selections from our below average offense and only one from our relatively stellar D

Well stated.... "More pro-bowlers than wins." Sounds like the Kansas City Chiefs in 2012!

On the NFL Network this morning, they commented that if a team has that many pro-bowlers and so few wins, that says a lot about coaching. But I also think it says a lot about the quarterback too and the total lack of a running game. One can only wonder what this season would have been like if Brian Hoyer and Dion Lewis had not gone down for the season. If anything, this also speaks to the lack of depth on this team. In my mind, I think our top three draft picks should be used on quarterback, running back and defensive lineman. I haven't looked to see what players are unrestricted free agents next year, but we might pick up a running back and a decent run-blocker for the right side of the offensive line. We also really need to resign Alex Mack, first and foremost.

I put re-signing TJ Ward as top priority...... but Mack would be equally hard to replace.

Yeah talk about odd. The Bengals only got 2. lol I guess you will have to pay those guys more.

I feel the top three picks should be used on Quarterback, Wide Receiver,  and Corner back in that order. We obviously need a future quarterback that can go without explanation. I feel like we need a legitimate 2nd option along side Gordon more than a RB. Greg little is a #3 WR at best and we were without Dion Lewis throughout the season and Edwin Baker is turning out to be a pretty decent back. We also have to see what is out there in ghe Free Agent market for RB's. We actually are pretty deep a DL with Phil, Rubin, Bryant, Kitchen, Winn, and Sheard can be a down lineman. Corner back is still shaky Skrine is not a legitimate #2 and still has coverage issues which leads to a field day for QB's which leads to points. We are almost there but we need those three positions the most.

Ugh. Watching this week. I think the spot in my heart that cared about the Browns has died. I think I  am compelled to watch out of habit but no emotion reaction besides some general disgust. It doesn't matter who's in charge or who's playing the result is the same...

Buh Bye Chud....That was quick.

Because what this team really needs is some more instability.

It's official, Chud is gone...The worst thing that happened to us Browns fans was "the return of the Cleveland Browns".

Lovely. RT @FootballExpert: The last four coaches fired in the AFC North have been the coach of the Cleveland Browns.

Regoddamndiculous

^this. It's over, please move this crap team to LA or London, change the name and keep all of the records from 1999 to the present. Leave us with the memories of the real Browns.

At least we're getting bigger scoreboards.

And Chip " I am returning to Oregon next year" Kelley is in the playoffs.... Awesome negotiating skills Banner...

If they bring in a big name, all's good.  I woudn't completely count out Saban.  He doesn't really have anything left to prove at Alabama, and there have been stories that he was really shook about how the fan base turned on the kicker that missed the last second attempt.

Otherwise, bad decision.  He was on his third QB, the best RB got traded and the second best went out for the season, and the D played well until they just ran out of steam.

You better get Mike Shanahan. He has just been fired.
