Nothing about pro sports is a big deal; that's what makes them such an effective distraction. No way you can change the Browns' helmet! That proposed model looks like somebody took a dump on it.

The uniform will probably change. The helmet will not, aside from some slight change in the tone of the orange (as shown above) or the dimensions of the stripes (as suggested above).  The SH!tstain on the back ain't happening. Hallam has already said that a uniform redesign will not involve the helmet

Browns lose in a blowout!

This game will set the tone for the remainder of the season.

Hts, did you notice Haden's elite coverage skills on that last drive? I retract my previous evaluation of Haden as an above average coverage CB. He's average at best and grossly overpaid. He's still on the field looking for his jock after that last drive. It's rarely one player you can say called a loss for their team. However, Haden played as big a part in the loss as anyone else.

If I may say... The two missed field goals, the penalties, and the inability of the offense to get a first down when needed led to the loss. It wasn't one player, and it surely wasn't all Haden.

Get a first down on that last series and you have a 90% chance of winning. Don't get a first down and you have a 50/50 at best

Agree about Haden, and he always gets burnt at the worst times.  Brown was too fast, Graham too tall, I guess 36 year-old Steve Smith was too crafty..?

The last two 3-and-outs took 1 minute off the clock COMBINED. You have no chance if you can't manage a single first down when it matters most. And two missed field goals? Browns gave that one away.

Did you notice which coverage scheme they were in on that play?

Yeah, it was a go route with safety support coverage. The safety wasn't there either but Haden was three steps behind 35 year old Steve Smith on a simple go route. The same Steve Smith who was thrown on the scrap heap by Carolina. Ladies and gentlemen, this is is what 5 years and 67.5 million gets you on the Cleveland Browns. Regardless, a lot of people had a hand in giving this one away. This team spent a gazillion dollars on defense to be average. They weren't able to stop the run in the second half and there were three or four busted plays. Baltimore's receivers also helped the defense out with five dropped passes.

Who is Brian Siper?  :o :o

That was the WR route. The coverage was a cover 2 press. If you want to fault Haden, it would be that he didn't get enough of a jam at the line.  But he was one step behind on coverage, not 3. If the ball was the slightest bit underthrown he could have got his hand on it. It went right past his fingertips. He may have long arms but there not long enough to do that when he is three steps behind. The concern with the coverage is that Whitner was three or more steps late. If you wanna talk about overpaid, look no further. I haven't seen that guy make one play in coverage yet.

You saw Joe twice yesterday. Once when he was picked on the cross route and once on that last drive. CBs are like LTs.  The less you hear their name called during a game the better they are probably playing

I'm not going to jump on the "Haden is an average CB" train, but I will say that Haden gets beat way too much in the most critical points in the game. I can list too many times (Week 1 for starters) when the Browns needed him to protect against the big play and concede the short routes, only to get burned. What's most worrisome for me is that it's been happening his entire career and he hasn't learned from any of his game-altering mistakes.

Look can we just take a step back and think of the fact that the browns are just 2 FG's away from being 3-0 right now.  While both a new offense and defense systems are getting installed.

^^Joe doesn't choose the coverage scheme.  In the coverage he was in yesterday on that play, he was supposed to protect the short routes and guard underneath on the big plays.  The play call might have been a little questionable, but you have to consider the context of when it happened.  Baltimore had the ball at midfield with 2 minutes to play.  Ideally, they would want to dink and dunk their way into field goal range, burning the clock during the process, and not risk trying to put one over the top.  The coaching staff put all three of our CBs up on the line in press coverage.  You do that to take away the quick slants and try to slow the WR down enough to allow the pass rush to get to the QB.  But when you do that, it is absolutely critical that the safety protect against the big play over the top.  Even if that happens, there still is always that little window that the QB can slip the ball in between the CB and the Safety if he hits his WR in stride, which Flaco did.

I just so happened to be watching the game yesterday with a guy who has three super bowl rings playing DB for the 'Niners.  Right when that play happened, he said that Whitner was late.

As for big plays against Haden late in the games, he has been victimized a few times.  He also has his fair share of big plays at the end of games.  I recall one play his second year where he wasn't lined up on AJ Green for whatever reason and was burned for a TD, but that was after he shut AJ down for nearly the entire game.  I remember another game, the same season I believe, where AJ Green made a catch that only him and about 3 other WRs in the league can make.  The other ones I can recall were, for the most part, simply perfectly executed pass plays.  Some of you seem to fail to realize that for a CB to make a great play, quite often the timing of the pass needs to be off, even if only slightly...... that is more true than ever with these new rules.  There will be no more "Revis Island" type of seasons because they don't let the CBs play like that anymore.  The only guy I can remember being able to blanket NFL WRs without getting physical with them was Deon Sanders and I doubt we ever see another cover CB as good as him.

The big problem with the browns is special teams, every aspect of it.  And they gotta get their snaps together on fieldgoals

^Absolutely.  They have been losing the ST battle at critical times.  Botched snaps, blocked kicks, not fair catching that last punt, failing to down the ball inside the 20 against Pittsburgh, etc.

Another major issue I see is the failure of the defense (particularly the OLB) to contain the edge on the running plays.

I also think that the switch of Rubin and Taylor has not produced a net positive result.  Put Phil back in the middle and Rubin back out at DE, where they both played very well last year.

One thing I haven't seen anyone mention is what was Gabriel doing on the bomb where he was wide open?  It looked like he slowed down and then had to dive for the ball, which cost us a touchdown.  I think he would have caught it right in stride if he had just kept running.

I only saw the play in real time, but it seemed to me like he was underthrown and had to stutterstep to decelerate, causing him to fall.

That's what I thought at first, too, but watching the replay it looked as if he slowed a little when he didn't need to and then had to dive.  Either way, the receiver's got to score a touchdown on that throw.

Can the team manage a "W" this weekend?

Can the team manage a "W" this weekend?

I think they can find better use of their spare time.  That said, we do have a new one downtown and I'd rent a room if Starwood is game.

No, it is impossible for them to get a "W" this weekend.

I wonder if the wind might have done something wacky with that ball.  Benjamin blamed the wind on not fair catching that last punt, saying it got caught in a few gusts and he couldn't adjust, allowing the ball to roll down to the 4.  Something similar could have happened with Gabriel.  Hoyer has a good arm, but not a cannon that is going to be able to completely cut through the Lake Erie winds.  One major home field advantage for us with Kosar was his sidearm release and low trajectory, even through it resulted in more batted down passes at the line in all likelihood.  Anyone who has sat in the upper bowl can tell you that the wind is stronger the higher you are up in the stadium.

Ahhh.  So exactly where is this alleged W hotel?  And I'm not talking the Westin!  Show me, post an address.

I was at the stadium and while the wind seemed like it was coming steadily from the NW (based on cloud movement) on the field level it was gusting all over, so I really feel like that was a factor.

Not to reignite the Haden debate, but has anyone else noticed how that "crafty" 36 year old Steve Smith is on pace for over 1,700 receiving yards this year?  Same for Antonio Brown.  And Jimmy Graham is on pace for nearly 1,400 yard, topping his previous high.  Those are three of the top 7 receivers this year in terms of yardage.  This upcoming stretch of games has got to be a mild relief for a defensive backfield which had to face some extremely tough matchups while adjusting to new rules designed to allow for a more prolific passing attack.

You had to bring up Joe Haden. Here are some mind blowing stats about Joe Haden per the shady people over at NFL.com. The sad thing is another of my friends sent me these stats. I've never had a conversation with him about Joe Haden. Without further ado:

Through three games, Haden has been targeted 19 times -- and he's yielded catches on 14 of those targets, for a burn rate of 74 percent. Roll that one around for a few minute. Wait, there's more. Thats compared to a burn rate of 35% last year. Both stats according to nfl.com.  Haden also has just one pass defensed this season after recording 20 in 2013. Hts, the reason those three players are on pace for phenomenal years is they had Joe "I took the money and ran the other way" Haden covering them.

I'm sorry.  I wasn't aware we aren't allowed to "bring up Joe Haden."  He's still on the Browns, right?

I also didn't realize that Haden had covered those three in all of their games.  I didn't recognize Joe out there while Steve Smith was 'running circles around those school children' on the Panthers or while Antonio Brown was racking up 130 yards versus the Bucs.  I thought you could only play for one team.

If you are reading this Joe, the 121 is with you.  The 113, not so much.  They apparently want Buster Skrine or Justin Gilbert as the #1 CB, covering the opposing team's best player each game.  Good luck with that.  We know you have not played to your max ability, but we are not going to pile on after such a small sample size.

I'm not really looking at any comparison with last year for the reason I have stated numerous times with the rule changes handcuffing DBs.  That statistic is also flawed because it is cherry-picked for certain players and not widely available for all CBs in the league.  It also does not take into account the placement of the ball.  If a CB was targeted 5 times in a game, but all 5 balls were either overthrown or dropped, then the CB would be 5-for-5 in coverage and have a 0% burn rate no matter how 'burnt' he was on any of those plays.  If you want to show me footage of Joe actually getting 'burned', go ahead.  Getting burned and getting beat by a great pass & catch are two different things completely.  Also, flat out getting burned due to just being outplayed and getting burned because the other team illegally picked you in the middle of the route are also very different.  So show me where Joe lined up mano-y-mano and was burned by something other than a perfectly thrown ball and catch where he was nevertheless right there to make the play if the ball was the slightest bit underthrown.  I'll await the footage.

OK, who gave up on the Browns in the first half today? It's OK, you can admit it. When the Browns trailed the Titans 28-3 in the 2nd quarter, I walked away from the game. About 45 minutes later, I heard my neighbors cheering. So I turned the TV on again and saw the Browns pull out the biggest comeback in team history. Wow!

But can we please not have these Kardiac Kid reprise games?? I'm getting too old for this sh....

Largest road comeback in NFL history, says MKC of the PD.

i dk what was more shocking, being down so much early or the comeback. this was a weak opponent. it will be more impressive later if the titans end up with a semi-decent record. i pity the browns in practice this week, they are going to get an earful. but for today i think i will just enjoy the biggest comeback win i have ever seen.

I was shocked by the win.  I like KJP[/member] lost interest in the game and was out when thing No.1 text me about the win.

Damn whippersnappers!

To the certain redneck member of the Cleveland sportstalk media: Manziel is not the starting QB. This is the starter:

2014 Season      62.1  1008    7.6      6      1      97.7

Now STFU. Any questions?

I will admit that I DID NOT watch the second half... and was completely ecstatic when I learned they won.  I guess I'm so used to the team getting annihilated in seasons past that I gave up on watching them.  I will NOT make the mistake of giving up on the team half-way through a game again!  Go Browns!!

I seriously lucked out.  My son's soccer game started at 1pm, so I set the game to tape.  However, too many parents were at the game grumbling about us falling behind early, so I decided to just start watching it live when I got home.  I turned the game on when the Titans were kicking off following the TD which made it 28-3.  Sooooooo...... from there I watched a 26-0 Browns route ;)

Debbie Downer here.  Even with the great comeback yesterday, I'm still seeing the Browns as last place in AFC North, that is unless they can vastly improve.  They are just way too inconsistent so far, and they were fortunate to be playing lowly Tennessee yesterday with Wally Whitehurst at QB.

^Whitehurst produced two of those TDs.  I might agree with you otherwise, but when the Browns lose in dramatic fashion like the Titans did yesterday, we don't talk about how lucky the other team was to win.  A win is a win.  The largest road comeback in NFL history is the largest road comeback in NFL history.

As for the division, we are one game out.  The Steelers barely beat the Jags, who are unquestionably one of the worst teams in football.  The Ravens lost.  And the Bengals were rapidly brought down to earth by a down-and-almost-out Patriots team.  If we had managed to win either the Steelers or Ravens game, we'd be tied for first.

If you look at the Whitehurst TD's, one was a great play. The other was a horribly blown coverage iirc. They basically dared him to pass the entire second half. And, he couldn't.

I've seen him as backup for Chargers quite a bit and believe me, he's nothing more than a 2nd or 3rd string QB.

The difference between Browns vs. Steelers/Browns vs. Ravens are just a few points, but that's all you need for the W. Browns should've beaten Ravens, but their own inconsistencies killed them; Baltimore didn't win, the Browns lost.

He is nothing more than a 2nd string QB.  Nobody is calling for him to start.  But backup QBs are called to play in the NFL quite often.  Even with 3rd stringers, if you spot them 25 points, you'd expect them to win.

What a year it was!  I relived the pain all over again!

I had the opposite experience from Hts. My boys game was at 4:00 so I got to watch/listen to the first half and got out of the car at halftime. I am assistant coach so were across the field from the parents when there was a mini eruption of surprise and excitement when the Browns won.

I don't really have a feel for how good they really are, but it's better than it's been since 2007.

This team isn't the Kardiac Kids; they are jekyll and hyde

^ yes, they have a long way to go!  I still can't figure out why they didn't get at least take one field goal on those 4th downs.  I do feel better after watching the Bengals in their typical playoff form!

If we had managed to win either the Steelers or Ravens game, we'd be tied for first.

The Brown would have won the super bowl last year if they managed to win all their games.
