^I have no problem with that move.  He had to be problematic in the locker room based on just the clues we got from his statements to the media.  He didn't seem to like it here, anyways.  Definitely not a cold weather guy.  He will pull a Braylon Edwards and Greg Little by talking sh!te about the team/city as the door hits him on the arse..... mark my words on that.

Browns have just released RB Ben Tate. That's what you get when you complain about your playing time.

Big mistake.  Neither of the rookies has ever played a 16 game season.  Hope we didn't jinx ourselves.

I'll bet he lands in Indy since Ahmad Bradshaw broke his ankle. Tate and T-Rich can commiserate about Cleveland, but Tate will complain that T-Rich is getting carries. Not sure how he'll get along with Josh Cribbs who just signed there yet remains a Cleveland cheerleader.

I suspect it will be Denver, and he'll have at least three 100+ yard games this year.

It must be the day to release disgruntled running backs.  The Steelers have let go of LeGarrette Blount

I never seen so many guys released or suspended in one day in the regular season.

Jason Avant released too.

If we get another surprise win against either the Bengals at home (it would actually surprise me if we lost that game)

Did you forget that game is at 1 p.m. on a Sunday?

I have to change my underwear.

This is how Browns fans look by the time they reach the age of 22....

That picture is hysterical!! I too had to change my pants.

That was in insane ending. I wonder how many Browns games have actually been won in the last 45 seconds (let alone 5) like that one.

I heard this was the first time a Browns quarterback had consecutive 300+ yard games since Sipe.

Please, please, please... to ALL of the Gods... do not let us suffer another Red Right 88

Hoyer, yet again, does the bare minimum to win.

Josh Gordon is a beast.  Most physically gifted WR in the league.  Yes, I know Megatron has not retired yet.

We had no right to win that game.  We got a gift from Atlanta's coaching staff in terms of end-of-game clock management.  I don't even want to think about how the Atlanta sports media are talking about the Falcons' use of their timeouts.

ETA: Just an idle curiosity because I'm not much of a pro sports follower, but what is the tightest a division has ever been from top to bottom at Week 11?  Looking at the AFC North, Cincinnati is in first at 7-3-1 and Baltimore is in last at 6-4, and since they've only played 10 games, if they'd played 11 they could be tied with the Browns and Steelers.  Every team in the division won their last game to keep pace with each other, since everyone had non-division games.

Just wait until they get synched up, assuming (which we can't) those weren't simply bad throws by Hoyer.

I think it was a few weeks ago when all the teams were above .500 and that had never been done before.  I imagine, especially if Baltimore wins tonight, that there has never been a Division with 3 teams, let alone all four, at 7-4 or better this late in the season.  That's a total guess, BTW.

As for winning that game the way we did, I'll take it.  Too often we have been on the wrong end of coaching blunders and last second field goals.  It is usually us that gift-wraps games.  We did in no less than twice at the beginning of the year.  We've probably lost to the Steelers like that more than 5 times over the past 10 years.  It was great to see the other team's prevent defense getting picked apart on the way down to a winning FG

As far as the clock management goes.  We had 3 timeouts left.  If you can't get it done in 45 seconds, much lesss greater than 50, against a prevent defense, you're not getting it done.  Giving us the ball with greater than a minute left and 2 timeouts would have kept the prevent off, and made us face a tough 5-2 blitzing defense forcing the pocket to close on Hoyer making him throw bad passes.  By forcing the clock into prevent mode, I think we win the game 4 out of 5 times.  Not saying that Pettine was doing that, but I'm going to pretend that was his strategy.  As Madden always said, running the prevent prevents you from winning.    Also, I think he was going to call a timeout, but Atlanta beat him to it.

^Actually, Hoyer said on that big play to Austin he was just waiting for the LB to blitz because he knew he could burn the defense over the middle when that happened.  It did and he connected with Austin on the play that set us up for that FG.

Browns Win On Last-Second Field Goal

CLEVELAND -- Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel was involved in a fight in downtown Cleveland early Saturday but is not listed as a suspect, according to a police report obtained by ESPN.

The Cleveland Police Department's report stated that Manziel was approached by a fan named Chris Gonos who says he was assaulted by the rookie quarterback and  "his entourage." The incident was reported at 2:36 a.m. from the Metropolitan at The 9 hotel in Cleveland. The report does not indicate that police made any arrests.

A Manziel associate, listed as Dana Kirk, told police "the victim attempted to assault his client and he defended him," according to the police report. Gonos, the alleged victim, told police he was "assaulted by Johnny Football and his entourage" after he tried to approach Manziel as a fan by saying, "I'm the biggest Browns fan ever, I love you, I want to give you a hug," according to the report.

A statement made by Manziel's agent paints a slightly different picture of the incident.

"Johnny and his roommate had been out to dinner earlier in the evening with Johnny's mother, who is staying with him this week," Erik Burkhardt said in a statement. "There was no entourage. Johnny and his roommate were trying to get on the apartment elevator at his home when they were accosted by a very aggressive man and his associates. It was an unfortunate situation and he immediately let [browns general manager] Ray Farmer and the team know what happened."

Farmer said in a statement that the team is gathering information to better understand what occurred.

Well, I'm glad Johnny didn't have to play Sunday.  Out until 3AM, and had to be to the airport at 6AM.  Amazing how you still don't take a job seriously when your making $8M dollars.

Charter flight, plenty of time to nap on the plane?  Not a big deal, he is after all 21 years old.  I doubt it impacted his ability to play, at all.

This happened Saturday morning, over a day before the browns game in Atlanta.

A 1.25 hour flight to Atlanta.  Not much time to nap.  That combined with drinking the night before.  I was 21 once also, and I know you bounce back a little easier, but still.  There was a reason Brett Farve was released from the Atlanta Falcons after one season, and this was pretty much why.  I'm sure that they wished they counseled him as Green bay did.  The Browns need to do the same.  He should at least be put in a hotel room in the suburbs the night before game day.

The PD article says this:

"Manziel lives at The Metropolitan at The 9, where the incident took place at about 2:30 Saturday morning, hours before the Browns were to board their flight to Atlanta for their game against the Falcons."

I guess the Browns headed to Atlanta Saturday morning as I thought they would.  That makes more sense now.  The way the article read though, it made it sound as though they left on Sunday morning.

Didn't quite work out that way, though the Saints made a good game of it.

Which means that, according to Yahoo (which I assume knows things about the tiebreakers that I don't), the Browns are in last in the division ... at 7-4!  Of course, we have three 7-4 teams and one 7-3-1 team, so for all intents and purposes (given that there are still five games left for everyone) it's a four-way tie.

The Browns' next three opponents all have winning records, and three of our last five are on the road, but at least arguably the two toughest teams we face in that stretch (Cincy and Indy) are at home.  And while it's tough that four of our last five have winning records, most of our division competitors are actually have somewhat similar roads: Cincinnati has three division games plus Denver (8-3).  Pittsburgh has to deal with Kansas City (7-4) plus Cincinnati twice.  Baltimore only has one division game left (Browns) but San Diego and Miami both have winning records, and Houston's hardly a pushover (though Baltimore admittedly still seems to have the lightest schedule left, since Houston does have a losing record and Jacksonville really has a losing record ... their only win this season remains against us).

The browns need to win this week and need to win both divisional games.  Ten wins may get them a playoff spot, but they need a winning record in division.

They also need conference wins -- those are the next tiebreakers after divisional wins.

Well, only one game left (Carolina) is a non-conference game, and unfortunately, it's the weakest game left on the schedule.

Saw some D-line ratings tonight. Browns didn't do so well in them. For example, Ahtyba Rubin: 70th out of 79 qualifying DTs vs the run this yr via @PFF w/ a grade of -7.5. He is 71st as a rusher w/ grade of -4.8. #Browns

So...Johnny Football huh?

I felt in the minority when he was put into the game, in that I was more sad than excited. I know that Hoyer hasn't been getting it done, and it was great to see Johnny go on that drive, but I was really hoping that Hoyer was going to be our guy. He's one of us and he's a good guy. I'm not sure I can be proud to have a guy like Johnny leading this team, but hopefully he'll grow up a lot

I would love it if johnny is the guy.  We haven't had a guy who stirs the drink in a while and it would be fabulously entertaining.

Hoyer will start this week. He's a big reason this team is in contention. You dance with the person you brought.

The thing that encouraged me is he did exactly what he did in college (on the first drive) and did it successfully.  True, it was against a D prepared for Hoyer, but there's no way they didn't spend any time being ready for him.

On the botched snap, the review made the right call and he showed great recovery/presence of mind to turn a disaster into an incompletion.

Also, I liked the understated way he did his signature gesture after he scored, recognizing there was still work to be done.

Sums up one of my feelings about the QB situation....

@ryanincbus I know I've been TeamHoyer but time to realize the team has reached a plateau and continuing along is settling for mediocrity.  Can't do it.

"In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

I'm 50/50 on this decision. On the one hand, I think we've seen that Hoyer needs just about everything clicking in order to be effective. With Manziel, you can see the greater dynamic he brings, but over the course of a full game he's likely to take some risks that could be costly.

Hoyer is still the best Browns QB in recent memory. He can have a place in the league for years. As of today I just think he makes for a better backup rather than a starter.

Anyhow, even with all the injuries you don't give up on the season. As long as Andy Dalton continues his assault on his own team at QB the Browns have a shot at the division. The team has got to go with the guy that gives them a better chance to win. Is that Manziel or Hoyer?

The hell if I know the answer to that question.

Hoyer will start this week. He's a big reason this team is in contention. You dance with the person you brought.

I agree he's been a big reason, but it also seems that he's been a handicap these last few weeks. I think the pressure in Berea to start Manziel has reached a tipping point after yesterday. I could be wrong, but I feel like we'll see Johnny start against Indy.

There's also the under-reported story that Hoyer, due to receive a $2 million bonus if he takes 70% of snaps this season, was near that threshold yesterday based on the average number of snaps an offense takes in a season.

Interesting situation for the Browns right now.  Browns fans, who do you think gives you a better chance to win?  Hoyer or Manziel?

^I lean toward Manziel even though his body of work at the pro level, even in preseason, rates and  "Incomplete."  Also, yes, the overall winning record for the Browns have been the best under Hoyer, even though he has yet to complete a full season.  But the fact is, Hoyer has been showings some very destructive tendencies under pressure these last 2 weeks.  While the 44-second drive last week was a thing of beauty, Hoyer put us/him behind the 8-Ball with 2 consecutive late INTs which gave the lowly Falcons the late lead and nearly the victory.  The INT that got him benched was inexcusable; it was right into triple coverage...

Manziel just seems to have some intangibles, esp his ability to run and pickup yardage when stuff breaks down.  And even though it was College, he's a proven winner at a major program.  I guess the best approach is for Pettine to start Hoyer and see how he does.  I'd have a very short hook though, and if he's missing open guys like he's prone to do, and esp if he throws picks, I'd bench him for Johnny Football.

Agree with all--but the reverse on the starter.  I feel Pettine's best bet is to start Manziel.  If he ends up flat on his back and not moving the offense (especially on the home field), then we know.  This is also important as the Browns front office starts to decide on the future once again with draft picks.

Interesting situation for the Browns right now.  Browns fans, who do you think gives you a better chance to win?  Hoyer or Manziel?

With a good O-line: Hoyer

With a bad O-line: Manziel

There's also the under-reported story that Hoyer, due to receive a $2 million bonus if he takes 70% of snaps this season, was near that threshold yesterday based on the average number of snaps an offense takes in a season.

Assuming an even number of snaps in each game (not true, but probably not far off) the first 11 games, which were all Hoyer save for a few snaps, is 68.75% of the snaps. He then played most of the Buffalo game. He's probably got the bonus even if he never plays again.

plus, our winning record isn't pure.  The browns might have the easiest schedule in the league.

Looks like Hoyer is the man for this Sunday's game

Looks like Hoyer is the man for this Sunday's game

Well, if he's struggling it will be interesting to see if he gets the hook again.

Silence is deafening.... Pettine gave Hoyer a chance to prove himself. He didn't. He kept giving the ball back to Andrew Luck in the second half. Now it should be Johnny time.

"In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

On a positive note, if we want to keep Hoyer as Johnny's backup it should cost us a lot less with every game he plays like yesterday.
