Is there a ranking of worst teams re: the draft? Because I'm wondering who could possibly be worse than the Browns.

Very curious to see what the Browns do at WR with the cuts looming.  You'd think that Bowe and Hartline are certainties.  Then you have Hawkins, Gabriel, and Benjamin (do they keep all three midgets?).  That's five.  The coaching staff loves Marlon Moore for his special teams impact.  Vince Mayle hasn't shown much but was a 4th round pick.... although the Pats just cut their 4th round WR yesterday.  Terrelle Pryor might have the most potential of the bunch but not a lick of NFL experience at the position.  Lentz and Jennings have been pleasant surprises during camp.  Keeping 7 of those guys is possible, I suppose.  Somebody is going to get cut who will get picked up by another NFL team.

I'm also interested to see if Jamie Meder makes the team, which would mean they keep three NTs (Kitchen was cut).  Not out of the question since Big Phil is injury prone.

Mayle's rumored to have a possible injury issue.  The staff really doesn't want to cut Pryor.

The gilbert/manziel round really hurt^^.  Imagine how different our feelings about this season would be if the browns drafted two offensive players who actually deserve to start for a good team.

It is nice that the Browns have to make decisions to cut talent for once instead of trying to pick up bodies off of waivers to round out the roster.

I think Big Phil departure guarantees that Pryor will make the Final roster. I was originally shocked that they made the cut, but it probably is a win-win for Phil and the Browns.

I don't  know why Phil getting cut would have any bearing on Pryor making the team.  Maybe it indicates they will keep more WRs and less DLs, but I was assuming they were going to keep 7 WRs regardless.  Phil being cut seems to have more to do with the desire to keep both Meder and Billy Winn, I would think.

The Browns got great value with that trade, they just blew the picks.

Still, what impact has a WR, Julio Jones had on the Falcons?  The Browns have won more games than Atlanta the last couple of seasons.

Now if we want to say that we could've stayed at 6 and taken JJ Watt, that hurts.

Well.... Thad Lewis solidified himself last night as nothing more than an emergency QB

I really didn't see anyone on the team 'flash.'  Lenz a bit, I suppose.  Interesting to see them line him up at FS in the 2nd half.  Might be an indication they plan on keeping him as a 'utility' player.  Also interesting that Pryor ran some read option plays from QB.  That tells me he is on the team and the Browns just gave their opponents one more thing to have to prepare for.  Looking more and more like they are going to keep 8 WRs, given the versatility of Pryor, Moore, and Lenz to fill other needs on the roster.

It was pretty sad reading Twitter last night, reading how many Browns fans were so upset at the team's performance -- that it had some kind of indication of how the team would perform this year.

The only really sad part of last night's game is that the Browns couldn't get more information about many of the skill players because of how the OL and QBs played. Thad Lewis played himself off the roster -- if we had another QB on the roster. We do -- it's the guy trying to become a receiver. So the irony is that is that the player who was helped most by Thad Lewis' inability to get the ball to Terrelle Pryor was Terrelle Pryor because of his apparent versatility. Thad Lewis' play made Thad Lewis expendable and Terrelle Pryor more valuable.

BTW I have to wonder if Lewis didn't throw to Pryor because he considered Pryor as a threat to his roster spot. Browns finally had to call a wildcat formation for Pryor. Then as Pryor rolled out and ran, he pointed to Lewis to set a block for him. Lewis responded by folding his arms! If Lewis' play put him at risk, his selfishness guaranteed him getting dumped.

I'm sorry to say this.  But if Terrelle Pryor is the answer to your question, then you're asking the wrong question.

Sorry, that was about Lewis' performance, not Pryor's. Moving on to something actually worth posting about -- the final roster. Very few surprises here, except perhaps WR Lenz getting waived. There's also word that Terrance East-West may be traded....

What do you think the question is?  It's not like they have him slotted as one of their starters. He's a bottom of the roster project...... the 6th or 7th WR on s team which lacks top end talent at the position.  At a minimum, he offers the potential for a different look opposing DCs are going to have to gameplan for

^^^that was not a wildcat formation

The Browns trade Terrance West to the Tennessee Titans for a 7th round pick...smdh

Browns fans sure do love to over-dramatize. The reality is that getting rid of Terrance East-West was addition by subtraction. Now, if the Browns weren't finding good players by other means (notably UDFAs), then by all means -- drama-away! BTW....

I like the idea of Ball behind our OL.  They almost have to bring in him or Rice, perhaps both.  Denver's been whiffing on their late first round and second round picks as of late.

I'd take a serious look at Devon Still.  He's probably better than our lower end DLs right now and he's a smart player that can help brief us on Cincy's schemes.  To the degree that it matters, the PR boost could be big too.

I want RB Pierre Thomas who the Saints cut in a salary dump. Best RB on the market.

^^I don't think Still is better than any of our DE's.  If we could get him on the PS, then fine.

^Makes sense.  Two of their first three opponents are basement dwellers and the other one has serious issues at QB...... all of which could be said about the Browns, of course

Who the heck knows what this offense will look like. I mean, will anyone be too surprised if things are really awful? The Browns seem to be perpetually out of sync with their ever constant changes in personnel. There's just never enough preseason time to get any sort of chemistry.

Love the pickup of RB Robert Turbin, but the waiving of Terrelle Pryor to make room for him seems very sudden. Coaches were talking about Pryor's progress only a few hours ago. Also Turbin is hurt and won't be able to play for 3-5 weeks.

Strange that you think he is so relevant for someone who hasn't been able to latch onto an NFL team. He's gone. And the Browns next drama will be....

He wouldn't contribute that much for at least a week or two anyway.  You can learn the plays while hurt.

It's not that TP is relevant to the Browns.  He's not.  It was more a commentary that with Pryor, it's always going to be something.  The Browns did not "make a mistake" with this move.

Actually, the greater relevancy for this thread was Erocc's questioning both your wisdom at http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,6443.msg761133.html#msg761133 and my wisdom at http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,6443.msg761334.html#msg761334 back in June.  If you look at Erocc's posts after those, he didn't forsee any problems with TP's transition to WR!

Well I drafted him in my dynasty league last week based on the judgements of people who saw him at camp, and was surprised by the cut.  Unless there's personal issues going on, he can certainly play the position.  QB to receiver isn't an abnormal transition at all.

What I don't have a problem with here is the Turbin signing.  He can learn the system while he heals.

No one said there was a mistake. I just couldn't care less one way or another... So moving on from Pryor (thankfully), if Turbin plays as big and strong as he looks (and hopefully smart too), he could be a very good pickup. Then again maybe he won't. It's the Browns. Let's pretend any of this matters.

Getting Turbin was a good move, dumping Pryor was a bonus.

football? FOOoOTBaALLLL!!!

Well, good seeing you Josh

I guess play like a Brown is now synonymous with the inability to tackle. I'm so sick of watching these stiffs.

No wonder McCown never finishes a season, the guy plays like a linebacker. Anderson Varejao thinks he plays careless...

Also for the love of Boog Powell never wear those orange pants again, those are definitely cringe worthy.

..

We watched McCown let himself get pummeled in preseason. No surprise he continued playing wreckless. But I hoped he'd get past the first half of the season.

Btw, I liked the unis.

What an awful football team.

They were worse than the team.  Just like the first time they tried orange numbers, it was a lot harder to distinguish the numbers.

it would help if they had a running game. it would help the running game if the run play wasnt telegraphed and obvious the second they broke the huddle. i'll just stop there.

It did seem like the Jets knew exactly where the run was going, but they were also stacking the box, whiting up their knuckles, and pinning their ears back in every running situation.  This all is a result of a complete lack of respect for the passing game.  When opposing teams don't have to worry about the pass, they can walk a safety up and let their linebackers shoot the gaps.  It doesn't matter how good your OL is, 5 guys can't block 8

Well, the first drive looked good....

Well, the first drive looked good....

Until it ended it the most Browniest of Browns plays.....

After McCown dove for the first down earlier in the drive I told my kid he was a moron and was going to get himself killed.

At least JFF showed of his baseball skills and slid.

(Sigh)

Maybe now that assisted suicide is legal in California the league showed let them move the team to LA and put it out of it's misery...(Too far?)

Can we maybe change the options for this poll?

Like combine 8-9, 10-11, and 12+ into 8 or more, and then add 4-5, 2-3, and 1 or fewer at the bottom?  It might spread the votes out better.

it would help if they had a running game. it would help the running game if the run play wasnt telegraphed and obvious the second they broke the huddle. i'll just stop there.

It would also help if they had any skilled receivers, a decent quarterback, a disciplined O Line, a defense that didn't get gashed, a....

Yeah, I'd say whoever came up with that poll was a tad optimistic -- as is the one person each who voted for the Browns winning 10-11 games and 12+ games. Really? 10+ games? Not if they keep "playing like a Brown."
