January 16, 20178 yr If it's about the analytics "process" then the Browns will almost certainly trade out of the #1 spot. This team is still talent deficient at almost every position despite one draft already in the books by Jackson, DePodesta, Brown and Barry LLP. Some of the Browns current starters would be on the practice squad of the Packers, Falcons, Pats, etc. They're not going to trade up either. No matter what the sport, the philosophy is always "quantity over quality" in the first three/four analytics drafts.
January 16, 20178 yr QBs left: Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Ben Roethlisberger, Matt Ryan. The position is pretty important, evidently. Which one was selected #1 in the draft? We need the best possible player at #1. There may still be some pretty darn good QBs with later picks. exactly, qb is far from most important for the browns at this point. the last thing they should do is swing for the marquee player fences. hell, trade down, play moneyball with the draft picks, that we can do, ha -- and grab as much talent as possible.
January 17, 20178 yr I want whatever player is considered by the consensus as the best available player, no more of the smartest guys in the room crap. A trade down is ok, but not below #5, the Browns need quality over quantity at this point.
January 17, 20178 yr Which one was selected #1 in the draft? We need the best possible player at #1. There may still be some pretty darn good QBs with later picks. Of course. Yet there's still something about the Browns finally having the first overall pick and being able to get the QB they want. I do think the Browns will pick Garrett (the Williams hire likely tipped their hand) but I wouldn't be surprised if they made a trade to move up to have two top-10 picks, and the second would be a QB. I could see a trade up from #12, and the QB they take Kizer.
January 19, 20178 yr Cleveland is Trying to Drive Down the Price for Jimmy Garoppolo by Feigning (?) Interest in Tyrod Taylor http://thebiglead.com/2017/01/18/cleveland-is-trying-to-drive-down-the-price-for-jimmy-garoppolo-by-feigning-interest-in-tyrod-taylor/amp/ "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
January 19, 20178 yr Taylor has a ceiling, and its not the playoffs. So you may have a gimmicky guy that makes some big plays and even win a few games because of his feet, but ultimately there is nothing at the end of the line. Thats certainly not a promotion for Garappolo, we dont know anything about him except he looked good in the same scenario that Matt Cassel looked good in.
January 19, 20178 yr Taylor has a better track record than Garappolo and won't cost you draft picks. I like bringing Taylor in, as long as we're still drafting a QB and giving Kessler a shot. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
January 19, 20178 yr On the other hand whats everyone think about Davis Webb, I wouldn't mind him in the 4th or 5th round.
March 6, 20178 yr I am not head over heels about Myles Garrett, but man did he have a great combine. 6'4, 270lb 40yd - 4.6 seconds Bench - 33 reps Vertical - 41 inches He ran just as fast as DeMarcus Ware did at his combine, but Garrett was 20 pounds heavier. His bench press reps are off the charts for a guy with arms as long as his. His vertical would be impressive for any NBA prospect.
March 9, 20178 yr Browns signed Kenny Britt http://waitingfornextyear.com/2017/03/browns-expected-to-sign-wide-receiver-kenny-britt/
March 9, 20178 yr Browns are spending some serious money today. In addition to Britt, they have invested heavily in their O-line by signing GB's center, Tretter, and making Kevin Zeitler (from the Bengals) the highest paid guard in NFL history. They also extended Bitonio for another 5 years at big numbers. So there's the interior of your O-line for the foreseeable future. JT at LT is obvious, but who mans the right side? Probably a battle between Shon Coleman, Cam Erving, and maybe Drango? Please no Erving. Please no Erving.
March 10, 20178 yr Potentially a very good move for the Browns, as odd as it may seem. http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/18865828/making-sense-unprecedented-brock-osweiler-trade-nfl
March 10, 20178 yr Shon Coleman's PFF grades rose throughout the year to the mid-80s by the final game vs. the Stoolers. Mid- to upper-80s is where Thomas, Bitonio, Tretter and Zeitler all graded, which is very good to elite. Browns now have one of the best O-lines on paper, though they still have to stay healthy and gel. Plus they have some depth now too. And the D-line may soon be one of the best in the NFL too. As they say, games are won and lost in the trenches. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
March 10, 20178 yr Good to see the Browns apparently finally have a FO that understands the proper way to build a team, which is build a good team then worry about QB's. Not only will any rookie have a better chance of succeeding, it also increases any odds attracting good FA QB's when they become available. Sure beats the draft QB's early and often approach and pray that he can singlehandedly resurrect this clunker of a franchise.
March 10, 20178 yr Browns have released Robert Griffin III, source says The Robert Griffin III experiment is over in Cleveland. The Browns released the sixth-year quarterback Friday on the eve of having to pay him a $750,000 roster bonus on Saturday, a league source told cleveland.com. Griffin was due to make more than $6 million next season. The move comes a day after the Browns traded for Texans quarterback Brock Osweiler and a 2018 second-round pick. March 21, 20178 yr to the jets: McCown's NFL life has winded through Arizona, Detroit, Oakland, Carolina, Chicago, Tampa and most recently Cleveland. He even spent a couple preseasons in Miami and San Francisco. The Jets need McCown to do them a solid. April 1, 20178 yr Cleveland Browns: Dan Gilbert To Purchase Team From The Haslams ;) https://factoryofsadness.co/2017/04/01/cleveland-browns-dan-gilbert-purchase-team-haslams/ If only it were April 2nd!
April 27, 20178 yr With the first three picks, I need a QB, an edge rusher, and a safety. I don't care in what order they are picked. For QB, I'm firmly in the Watson camp, but would not be disappointed in Kizer. Not sold on Trubisky. As much as I would love to like the local kid, I don't.... certainly not at 1. For edge rusher, I'm fine with taking Garrett #1 overall. Not in love with the kid (I think he takes some plays off and is a better athlete than he is a football player), but the talent is undeniable. If not him, Barnett intrigues me at #12. For safety, Adams, Hooker, and Peppers are all on my board and very high (no pun intended for Peppers). I love all three.
April 27, 20178 yr I agree on the positions, just not the players. I do think the Browns will pick Garrett at #1 although I prefer Thomas or Barnett. I'd love to have Adams and Hooker but unless we take one at #1 or move up from #12, I would be happy with Baker at #32. And for #12, I wrote this article: http://www.dawgsbynature.com/2017/4/24/15404048/browns-actions-say-theyll-draft-mahomes-at-12 "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

Maybe take a guy like Josh Dobbs in a late round and give Kessler a fair shot...he looked very serviceable. If it doesnt work out, keep your assets and do whatever you have to trade up and get Darnold next year
April 27, 20178 yr With Tennessee salivating over an edge rusher...what is everyone's thoughts on trading 1 for 5 and 18? Three top 18 picks?

April 27, 20178 yr I love Adams, but I'm still traumatized by taking Gilbert over Roby a few years back. I seem to recall being labeled a 'unabashed homer' on here when I said Roby was the best CB in that draft. Hooker's ceiling is about as high as any S I can remember since Sean Taylor. Adams is more NFL ready from Day 1 though.

Everyone says MG is going to be the next hall of fame player, but something scares me about him. I know he is a freak, but something about the bowl game I watched him not try in and the weird way he ran his 40 at the combine.
April 27, 20178 yr If Garrett is perceived as a sure fire HOF prospect and is wanted by every organization, then why have we not heard rumors of teams trying to grab the no.1 pick from the Browns to take him? And If the Browns don't draft a QB in the first round I would like to see them offer maybe a 3rd/4th to Buffalo to bring Cardale Jones back, and let him compete for the starting job. Because Cardale Is the TRUTH! imho
April 27, 20178 yr Myles Garrett will be the Browns pick at No. 1, multiple sources say By Mary Kay Cabot With the NFL draft just hours away, Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett will be the Browns' No. 1 pick, multiple league sources tell cleveland.com. April 27, 20178 yr Cardale lost his job at OSU to a guy who is not.very high on the NFL radar. Perhaps the most overhyped Buckeye ever. Love him for what he did in that playoff run. Never had faith in him as an NFL QB
April 27, 20178 yr Browns will pick Myles. Then Nassib will beat him out for starting spot. So Browns...
April 27, 20178 yr Browns will pick Myles. Then Nassib will beat him out for starting spot. So Browns... Of course after Myles sits out of camp, eats pizza and donuts and shows up looking like a retired pro wrestler.
April 28, 20178 yr Sure, the Browns improved the team tonight. But they could've had 3 top-10 talents in Garrett (or Thomas), Hooker & Foster at the 3 levels of defense. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
April 28, 20178 yr I'm giving the Browns a C+ for the 1st round. Garrett was a gimme pick and I do like the 20 year-old Njoku and his upside, but didn't like the Peppers pick because he's a tweener, not a natural FS. Thankfully they didn't take the bait on a mediocre crop of QB's in the 1st round. Davis Webb could be in play today.
April 28, 20178 yr I would give them a B- because they drafted 3 solid players and got additional picks.
April 28, 20178 yr I'd take Jabrill Peppers. Stud from Day 1 at Michigan. He has as much to do with that program's turnaround as Harbough. Guaranteed he will have a good NFL career. From November. I'm happy with how last night played out.
April 28, 20178 yr I liked what the Browns did, they added some super high level talent, hopefully they all pull it together. Garrett is an incredible athlete, same with Peppers who can play that "Rover/Joker" position which is more or less a strong safety at linebacker level or a little back, and then he is really good on special teams. The tight end adds a great weapon. I would bet the Browns add a high level cornerback which this draft has a ton, and then go with 3-5th round quarterback with upside they can bring along. Then see how this year goes with Osweiller, etc. then work next years draft. Hugh Jackson is a great coach, they just need to show patience.

Seeing Peppers and his attitude on the field against them will make him an instant fan favorite. Pomalau wasn't that great of a cover guy either.

April 28, 20178 yr If they want their QB in next year's draft then I would say that getting that extra 1st rounder was a good move. They will have plenty of ammo to make move.

April 28, 20178 yr ^There's also the kid from UCLA (Rosen). In the end though, I think the one from Ok St. passes both.... watch the name Mason Rudolph.
April 28, 20178 yr Lots of top-notch QBs likely coming out in the draft next year. Also Kirk Cousins and Jimmy Garoppolo will be free agents. I hate to kick the QB can down the road one more year, but if there has to be a year to kick it to, 2018 would be it. And if the Browns wanted to see if Kessler (who had a higher QB rating last year than Wentz) has anything to offer, he's got one year behind a much-improved offensive line, more offensive weapons to use, and a year of experience in the NFL and in Hue's system. April 28, 20178 yr I would give the Browns a "B" for yesterday as I liked the approach and the picks, generally. That we took a hard line and didn't bite on these untested, somewhat questionable QBs is admirable (I think we got a taste of the new regime's ability to remain calm and unemotional was evidenced in our not going crazy and giving Pryor top WR $$ based on a limited resume despite his quality performance for us -- we ended up replacing him with Kenny Britt who's stats were similar to Tyrelle's) I like Garrett and Njoku a lot and probably will like Peppers, too, but we'll have to see. I think the Bears were desperate and foolish for taking Mitchell T at no. 2 -- waaaay too high. I didn't like our trading out of 12 -- the difference between 12 and 25 is significant and we likely missed out on some guys who can help us now. Getting Houston's first rounder next year is OK -- any first round pick is good -- but the Texans will likely make the playoffs and it will be low... I did like our move to trade back in to the lower 1st round allowing us to grab Njoku at TE who could turn out to be a stud.
