If the Browns and the Ravens had traded kickers before the season, the Browns would be hosting a home playoff game next Saturday night.

Congrats to Baker Mayfield for getting the NFL rookie record for TD passes on the season -- with three fewer starts. The future is bright.

Not affecting the playoff outcome was yet ANOTHER blown NFL officiating call for the Browns--the Jackson fumble that should have been a Peppers touchdown.   How do you blow that dead with a ball rolling around the backfield?

By considering it a touchdown for the Ravens. I shut off the game at that moment to spare my family any further profanity. I turned it back on after halftime and after apologizing to my wife and son for sharing parts of the English language they do not need to know (except if they choose to become diehard fans of an NFL team).

Lots of rumors today that Freddie Kitchens is the man.

My friends with jobs in the league have heard the same.

Kitchens is the value add from that coaching staff. If you have a stud coordinator, you don't want him leaving you - see Atlanta and Kyle Shanahan

I like the Browns promoting from within. It's a change that also preserves some continuity.

There are reports that the Browns offensive coaching staff were told to hold tight and stick around, that they would have jobs here. The defensive staff received no similar instructions.

Ugh, I thought we were done with this crap. BTW if there is a tug of war, then it falls to Haslam to resolve it (because the dysfunctional organizational chart has Dorsey AND Depodesta both reporting to Haslam equally). If that isn't scary enough, consider what happens if Dorsey loses this fight. You think he stays with another head coach foisted upon him??

Browns job could come down to an in-house tug of war

EDIT: there are reports that there isn't a contentious tug of war.

No fear @YABO713. Freddie was just named new head coach per multiple sources.

I like Freddie Kitchens as a person. As a head coach, I have no idea what to expect. Let's remember where we were and what we said three years ago....

I'm scratching my head over why Gregg Williams was not offered the job. Anyone have insight on this or an opinion?

Freddie is better - simple as that.  Dorsey said they wanted someone that fits the future vision of the organization and it kept coming back to Freddie.

Freddie was going to get a head coaching offer eventually. Maybe he's not ready yet, and that was the biggest reason for keeping Greggggg for another year or two. But the risk was losing Kitchens and his rapport with Mayfield sooner rather than later. So the Browns took the risk of hiring Freddie as HC too soon which is better than being too late.

Alright that sounds reasonable but let me ask this; Do you agree with tklg, is Freddie better? If he isn't why should we care if he gets away?

Williams has kind of grown on me. But someone brought up a good point on the sports radio this a.m. The Browns defense had some good moments, but overall they stunk. The Raider game....yeesh.  It's inexcusable that they ranked 30th in the league in total yards. That was Greg's job.

I agree with surfohio. Williams is a mediocre head coach which made him light years better than Hue. But his defenses were not good here, even as talent improved. The reason why the Browns played better in the second half of the season was because of the offense, not the defense. And the offensive production went way up under Kitchens. His playcalling and use of Mayfield (rollouts, fast passing attack, wishbones, air-raid style plays, etc) reduced the defensive pressure on him. Plus Kitchens replaced Harrison at LT with a coached-up, more talented Robinson, and he asked Dorsey to sign Perriman to stretch the field more. Kitchens coached Perriman up and restored his confidence.

I loved Kitchens the moment I saw his playcalling the preseason game vs. Detroit. Despite the game being played by guys who might never set foot on an NFL field again, Kitchens' playcalling was like a breath of fresh air compared to the three previous preseason games. It was heavy on motion, quick passing and deception. I literally yelled "yay" when I learned that Kitchens got the job as OC. I don't know how he will do as HC but I like his non-pretentious style, something that 3G didn't have.

Ravens and Steelers at #10, #11 respectively. I think there are actually more question marks surrounding those teams than the Browns. Losing Antonio Brown means more pressure on a geriatric Ben R. After a bit of a learning curve the league will figure our the Ravens offense, they could be in real trouble. The Bengals....who the heck knows. The AFC North is gonna be pretty wild next season.

^ yeah i agree. that article was consensus from a big pack of prognosticators, but that doesn't mean they weren't biased or blindered or both, especially considering its espn. at least they got the way too early part right on the money lol.

Browns sign RB Kareem Hunt

The Cleveland Browns have signed RB Kareem Hunt.

Hunt is 5-11, 216 pounds and entering his third NFL season out of Toledo. Originally drafted by Kansas City in the third round of the 2017 NFL draft, Hunt has appeared in 27 career games. He has rushed for 2,151 yards on 453 attempts (4.7 average) with 15 touchdowns, while adding 79 receptions for 833 yards with 10 touchdowns.

As a rookie in 2017, Hunt led the NFL with 1,327 rushing yards en route to a Pro Bowl selection. He became just the sixth rookie since 1966 (Super Bowl era) to lead the league in rushing yards. Hunt also became the first player in NFL history to record six consecutive games with 100-plus scrimmage yards to start their rookie campaign. He appeared in 11 games in 2018 and registered 824 rushing yards, 378 receiving yards and 14 total touchdowns. He was released by the Chiefs on Nov. 30. Hunt finished his collegiate career as Toledo’s all-time leading rusher with 4,945 yards, while scoring 44 rushing touchdowns. He attended Willoughby South High School in Willoughby, Ohio.

As of this morning, Browns +1200 to win the AFC. Worth noting that there are only 4 teams in the AFC with better odds than that

And that's before the magician John Dorsey can work his magic in trades, free agency and the draft.

No no no!!!!!!

You don't need either of those two to win a super bowl.....but you do apparently need an owner who will "get busy" down in Florida.

A very reliable source is telling me they are working on one more.

They went from the worst offensive skill positions in the NFL in 2017 to top....3?

Bringing in this high priced talent now must mean that they are planning to make a full-fledged Superbowl run over the next season or two before the new homegrown talent gets expensive- and while the AFC North competition is in flux.

Going for it while Baker is on his rookie deal. 4 more seasons until he gets his 1st big contract.

Baker, Chubb, Garret- those guys are all cheap now.

I remember you telling me @E Rocc that you have a friend in Berea. I'm very intrested to hear who your source suggests we are going after. Lots of rumors it is Earl Thomas in free agency or a trade for Eric Berry.

Yeah, screw it I'll mention it here, my college roommate and groomsman is a scout for an NFC North team - he insists both teams are attempting to get Eric Berry, which would contradict some earlier reports re: Earl Thomas.

Also, this is why you have football people make football decisions - talking to you Joe Banner and Sashi Brown.

Mayfield (23)

Chubb (23)

Hunt (23)

Duke (25)

OBJ (26)

Landry (26)

Callaway (22)

Higgins (24)

Njoku (22)

Harris (27)

This offense is going to be loaded for years.

Chiefs release Eric Berry. It's happeninggggggg

Thomas, by the way, is signing a 4 year, $55 million deal with the Ravens.  $32m guaranteed.  He's only played in 29 games the last three seasons.
