It shouldn't have gotten to 4th and 9 in the first place. Kitchens should have challenged the pass interference no call. Then he followed one bad call with a draw play on 4th, yikes.

OK, @YABO713 I won't pretend to be an expert on playcalling and playmaking. I'll let the league determine that. As Bill Parcells said, "You are what your record says you are."

The Browns are 1-2, and 0-2 at home.

What will they be in 6-. 8-, 16-weeks? I don't know. No one else does either. All I have to measure is what is before me.

As Bill Parcell's disciple Bill Belichick says, "I can only go by what I see."

With all of the problems, they did almost take the game into overtime-they were not blown out. They are getting crucified in the press-after three games.

Because they beat themselves and didn't take advantage of opportunities. Last night's game reminded me of the pre-2018 Browns. They would hang around in a game, have opportunities (like three turnovers), but lacked a killer instinct and couldn't put the other team away. Invariably, the Browns would lose.

Yeah the draw wasn't the play call out of the huddle, I promise.

No, I get it - and I subscribe to the no moral victories ideology as well - the game was there for us to take it and we didn't.

Baker needs to improve, Freddie needs to improve - wholeheartedly agree. But we're at game #3 with a rookie HC and a 2nd year QB, it's going to get better.

I can only go off what i see. None of us were in the huddle to be able to make promises.

Yeah I hear you, but the typical run audible on a long yardage scenario is a draw - if it was 4th and 5 and a run audible was called, it likely would've been Chubb outside zone or counter trey, something like that.

Maybe you're right, and I shouldn't promise things lol - but Baker took 2 hard counts, rattled off 3-4 lines of cadence, then snapped, which also leads me to believe draw was the secondary call there.

Nonetheless - if we win next week we're in first in the division

10-6 is still a reasonable expectation for this team - especially in our division.

Do you really think we can go 10-6?  We could be 1-6 after the Pats game.  Do you see us beating Baltimore right now?  SF?  Pats?  Maybe Seattle.

The Ravens are frauds imo. (Screen shot this when we lose 42-7 next week lol) - I'd be willing to bet the Ravens finish 8-8 or worse.

I think we beat SF, who struggled to beat a battered Steelers team. I think we lose to Seattle and Pats and come out of that stretch at 3-4.

I love that OBJ's 2 million dollar watch turned out to be a fake. All of the hub-bub about watches for two weeks, right when he comes out as representing a (different)watch company. lol.  He gets paid, gets more attention, and watches are spotlighted on someone "cool" for the watch companies. He knows how to play more than one game well.

more on topic..

They are still building and coming together...

They have alot of injuries...

They are a new team really...

Mayfield just needs time to adjust to the quirks of his receivers...

Expectations were WAY too high for them...too much too soon. just give them some time...

The secondary did a damned good job, considering all the starters were out.  I was surprised we didn't see more from Garrett.  It's obvious he still has a ways to go if he wants to unseat Aaron Donald as the top defensive player in the league.

yes re the secondary --- no re garrett -- overall garrett is unseating donald this season so far, so we will see:

COMB-AST-Sack

garrett 12-4-6.0

donald 6-1-1.0

So sweet to see any losing Harbaugh on the sideline! lol.  Made the win even better.

I expected a dog fight after last weeks let down, but I did not expect the Browns to execute so well.

I'm still not convinced they are super bowl contender, but if they can play consistently, as they did today, in two months the Browns could be in a playoff hunt.

They won today, lets see if they can put a string of wins together.  This next four games will make or break the season.

I didn't expect the Browns to hit their stride until after the bye week. The start of their schedule is brutal and I thought the Browns would start the season 3-4. But the remainder of their schedule is more tolerable. I could see them ending 10-6. If they can start the season 4-3, that would be a pleasant surprise for me.

Yesterday was a statement game. And if anything was a statement image, it's this one -- of Chubb's 88-yard TD run with Baker running for joy in the background.

Nick Chubb is the best former UGA running back in the NFL.

This one may mean more to the team.   The talking heads were wondering why the quarterback was allowed anywhere near the fight.   This is why.

Crap. I thought Kirko was having a very good start to the season. OK, next man up. Wilson!!!!

Nightmarish first half against 49ers.

I’m going to circulate a petition to change Browns nationally televised games to Outdoor Life Network or ESPN 8 “the Ocho.”

Its really not so great having everyone laughing at the Cleveland Browns tonight.

Okay, I’m a little tipsy so I’m not sure, but was Freddy Kitchens sobbing uncontrollably during the post game interview?

This team is the most penalized team in the NFL. Freddie, get a hold of things now or next year you’re gonna be bagging groceries in Arkansas or wherever the hell youre from.

He didn’t cry but he should have cried. Calloway makes me sick. That bum turned the game on one play.

Baker continues to be a class act

Baker has a lot of growing up to do. Hope it happens soon or he'll end up on The Jersey too.

This was my fear with him all along.  When things are going well, it's easier to ignore, but his immature antics are going to get old quick (and he'll start acting out more) if we keep losing, ala Johnny Football.

I’m going to go the other direction with all this complaining..

just like in society and everyone’s obsession with social media and the need for instant gratification, fans are pretty dumb and impatient.  Last week we were celebrating winning the division and planning parades and a week later were are firing everyone and throwing our qb under the bus.

we are in the process of pulling a 1-31 franchise out of the sewer. It’s going to be hard and won’t be all rainbows and butterflies.  This team will be erratic and polarizing so get use to it. We aren’t the patriots and won’t looks like the patriots any time soon. They are going to have great moments and really bad moments, but I think at the end of the days it will be a winning organization.

Two plays.  The Derrick Henry TD catch and the callaway drop.  I think if those two plays don’t happens, they not only don’t get embarrassed in those two games, but they even have a chance to win them.  The riddle that kitchens has to solve is when things go bad, how do you keep everyone fired up.? I think if that game is 14-10, it ends a lot different than what we saw.

Im on board for the good and bad. I fully expect them to come back strong next week and get their first home win.  I predicted a win vs Baltimore after the rams loss and my friends laughed at me, but I think I understand this team. Not quite good enough to be consistent but perform their best when everything seems darkest

I'm on board as well.  I rooted for and watched them when they were 0-16 and 1-15.  Of course I will now.  I'm just worried with what I see and not drinking the Baker Kool-Aid yet.

My apologies to Baker for for assuming he was in the wrong vs d*ck Sherman was in the right...

Still mad - will share my thoughts tomorrow or Friday when the vein in my forehead recedes

Okay, maybe this is better for reddit, but figured I'd ask here first, and I'll preface it by saying I'm #1 Bills, #2 Browns, and #31 Pittsburgh and #32 Pats, BUT I'm trying to get some tickets for the Bills/Browns game Nov 10, and was curious what the scalper situation is like down at First Energy after the NFL changed their policies to digital only? Are there still traditional folks out there selling digital transferred tickets?

Again, don't mean to derail conversation here, just curious!

Also, until the showdown, Go Browns! As long as they win the division, it's all good (...kind of)!

Clever of Sherman. Probably made up that bullcrap to fire up his teammates. Baker can't even fire back at him since they lost so badly.

Baker isn't good and Freddie doesn't know how to call plays.  Can't win losing the turnover battle by 3 either.  I see penalties are still an issue.  Same old Browns.

as usual, i want to throw a brick thru the tv.

Just watched the Seattle game.  I try not to get too crazy after one game but after watching 6 games this Freddie Kitchens team looks much more like Hugh Jackson’s team - than what we saw during Greg Williams’ tenure.  We’ve  got more talent - but the crucial penalties, lack of execution and sloppiness is beyond frustrating. 0-3 at home and N.E. After the bye week.  Not good.

Penalties and turnovers. This game was winable.

I thought throwing the challenge flag as your running back is about to cross the goal line was textbook Hugh Jackson!

You guys know the whistle blew long before he crossed the goalline right?

It's like when a basketball player gets fouled, they blow the whistle, and then he dunks the ball 3 seconds later with nobody playing defense, and the crowd invariably goes wild.

But on that subject, I couldn't hear the game on the TV at that point so I didn't catch what was said when they were reviewing the play, but it looked pretty obvious to me that the ball had crossed the line before it was fumbled.

Also, the illegal blindside block call on Landry was one of the worst calls I've seen in a long time.

There were plenty of reasons we lost that didn't involve the refs, but the refs were bad.

lets hope they dont trade the future for williams during the bye week.

LOL!

Hey everyone its Friday and I'm ahead on my billable hours so here goes nothing...

Pre-Game Analysis

Points of Concern

  • Pre-Snap Reads: Even in years when the Pats don't have a dominant defense, they are excellent at disguising coverages before the snap . For instance, a standard disguise would be as follows:
    • Team shows one-high safety, indicating Cover 1 or 3, and then roll the safeties to a Cover 2 look - that's about as standard as it gets with disguises.
    • However, the Pats pull some RIDICULOUS disguises - on Monday night I watched them give Sam Darnold a Cover 0 (all man) look pre-snap, and roll to a Cover 6 look (Cover 4 to Field, Cover 2 to boundary) - I cannot tell you how much trust that takes in re: the discipline of your players and their athletic ability.
    • Baker struggles with the basic pre-snap coverage reads, I expect to see 3-4 plays where we just have to shake our heads - i.e. look for Baker throwing to a space expecting Cover 2, and no one is there because it's actually Cover 0 or 1 Under.
  • Running the Ball: I know we've done it well all season, and I know Nick Chubb might actually be Jesus' distance relative... but it will be tough to run the ball this week IF the Pats run a lot of man. But that's speculation so fingers crossed.

Strengths

  • Secondary: We will have our starting secondary back this week - which will be great to see. I hope Carrie gets some play at nickel, though, because he's actually a better tackler than Denzel and Greedy. It will also help with my next point --
  • Pass rush: If TB12 isn't able to get a lot of 3 steps drops and quick passes, Myles, Olivier, and Larry can have a field day - they have to be symbiotic, though - as Brady has the best pocket presence in the history of the game.
  • Preparation: I know its Bellichick and Brady. But we have a bye week, they have a short week, that will definitely help.
