August 7, 200717 yr ^ What about the claims that Quinn was holding up a trade of Frye or Anderson? Or that the QBs had to absorb all of Quinn's reps and are worn out?
August 7, 200717 yr Actually, harm was done.. it's hard to trade Frye or Anderson now by the beginning of the season, so they may be forced to cut one of them.
August 7, 200717 yr Williams getting his chances Steve King, Staff Writer 08.07.2007 Leon Williams did a good job of eluding blockers in Monday morning's Browns training camp practice. Then afterwards, he did a good job of eluding media members' questions. The first of the Browns' two fourth-round choices in the 2006 NFL Draft, the former Miami Hurricane worked extensively -- almost exclusively, in fact -- at inside linebacker next to Andra Davis with the No. 1 defense. August 7, 200717 yr Flexible Thompson looks fast, confident Zac Jackson, Staff Writer 08.07.2007 Very quietly -- and very much under the radar until Monday -- Chaun Thompson is putting together a solid training camp. He's been around the ball, comfortable with the defense and as active as ever on special teams. One play he made during a kickoff coverage drill Monday morning earned him (and him alone) praise from special teams coach Ted Daisher. More at cleveland.com http://www.cleveland.com
August 7, 200717 yr Neither Frye nor Anderson has been all that impressive in TC and neither has much trade value right now. But trades do get made at the end of camp. Example: Hank Fraley last year...and C is nearly as complicated a position as QB. Leon Williams has looked great since TC last year, when we nicknamed him "Predator" because of his dreads.

Example: Hank Fraley last year...and C is nearly as complicated a position as QB. Leon Williams has looked great since TC last year, when we nicknamed him "Predator" because of his dreads. I disagree. A couple of teams out there *need* a QB. See my post above. Charlie has experience as an NFL starter, and Derek Anderson got in a couple of games last year. Regardless of what time of year, they'll take a QB who can help them win. I call him "Lion" Williams because his hair looks a little like a lion's mane.
August 8, 200717 yr Camp bumps and bruises adding up Jeff Walcoff, Staff Writer 08.07.2007 The normal bumps and bruises of training camp are beginning to take a small but noticeable toll on the Cleveland Browns. Linebacker Willie McGinest was absent from practice for the second consecutive day Tuesday and left guard Eric Steinbach left practice after falling on his knee, adding to a growing list of minor injuries stemming from training camp More at cleveland.com http://www.cleveland.com
August 8, 200717 yr Brady Quinn, Cleveland Browns agree to contract Browns QB agrees to $20.2 million deal Wednesday, August 08, 2007 Tony Grossi - Plain Dealer Reporter The attributes you hear most about Brady Quinn are "hard worker" and "quick learner." The Browns will find out if those are accurate as the rookie quarterback tries to make up 16 practices missed in an 11-day holdout. Quinn became the last Browns draft pick in the fold when he and the team agreed to terms on a five-year contract for $20.2 million, including $7.75 million in guarantees. August 8, 200717 yr New Browns quarterback Brady Quinn shouldn't be hindered by past, says Bill Livingston Wednesday, August 08, 2007 Bill Livingston - Plain Dealer Columnist The play by Brady Quinn sticks with me, like a charley horse you can't walk off. Maybe such things won't lame him with the Browns. Maybe they will. Past doesn't have to be prelude, but the competitive conditions with the Browns in the AFC North will be similar to what he faced with Notre Dame in the 2006 Fiesta Bowl against Ohio State. That was the game in which Troy Smith, who didn't have the size of Quinn or the wiliness of Charlie Weis' pro playbook, outplayed Quinn widely because he had better players with him. August 8, 200717 yr Cleveland Browns lineman Eric Steinbach injures knee Wednesday, August 08, 2007 Starting left guard Eric Steinbach, the Browns' blockbuster signing of the off-season, fell on his right knee in practice Tuesday afternoon and could miss up to two weeks. "We're having it evaluated," said coach Romeo Crennel. "We were inside on the turf and he came down on the knee. I would say he bruised it, but I haven't looked at it, and I'm not the doctor, so I don't know." More at cleveland.com http://www.cleveland.com

August 8, 200717 yr Browns Stadium passes the flush test Nearly 300 people packed into the bathrooms at Browns Stadium Wednesday, but it was the city of Cleveland that was seeking relief. The crowd, which included 110 children, simultaneously flushed every public toilet in the stadium to determine whether the city has overcome toilet valve problems that flooded the stadium during a country music concert last month. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2007/08/browns_stadium_passes_the_flus.html#comments

August 9, 200717 yr Brady Quinn's contract controversy will pass away, Bud Shaw says Thursday, August 09, 2007 Bud Shaw - Plain Dealer Columnist The gall of Brady Quinn, hiring an agent to advise him and then taking that advice when he could've accepted the Browns' original offer out of empathy with the common man. For some reason it was mentioned to Quinn on Wednesday that the median income in Cleveland is so modest it would take some people 1,000 years to match what the Browns are paying him. August 9, 200717 yr Quinn concedes he's rusty after two-hour practice By Len Pasquarelli - ESPN.com Updated: August 9, 2007, 6:32 PM ET BEREA, Ohio -- In assessing his performance in the second practice of his career and the initial workout in front of the scrutinizing eyes of the local media, Cleveland Browns quarterback Brady Quinn was much more on-target than he was with most of his pass attempts in the Thursday afternoon two-hour session. "You're seeing a guy who hasn't been in camp for 2½ weeks," acknowledged Quinn, who on Tuesday night ended his camp holdout by signing a five-year contract. More at espn.com
August 10, 200717 yr Cleveland Browns rookie QB Quinn throwing hard in practice Friday, August 10, 2007 Tony Grossi - Plain Dealer Reporter That love affair between Browns fans and Brady Quinn is on hold. Something keeps coming between them. There was that 11-day holdout over money. Then there was that PR fiasco about charging $75 for his autograph. When he finally rejoined his team and was scheduled to show off his arm for the first time in front of fans, practice was moved indoors by coach Romeo Crennel because of wet weather. August 10, 200717 yr Edwards, Winslow leaving the past behind By Len Pasquarelli - ESPN.com Updated: August 10, 2007 BEREA, Ohio -- To this point in the brief but brittle professional tenures of Cleveland Browns tight end Kellen Winslow and wide receiver Braylon Edwards, their résumés have been defined as much by broken bones as game-breaking plays. Chosen among the top six players in consecutive NFL drafts, the tandem has registered more letdowns than touchdowns. Expected to emerge as the twin playmakers for the young Cleveland offense, Edwards and Winslow instead have become conjoined by misfortune and disappointment and the dreaded stigma of potential unfulfilled. August 12, 200717 yr Cleveland Browns linebacker Antwan Peek excels in preseason opener Sunday, August 12, 2007 Mary Kay Cabot - Plain Dealer Reporter Outside linebacker Antwan Peek put the Browns at ease Saturday with Willie McGinest out at least six weeks after having back surgery. Peek, signed as a free agent from the Houston Texans in the off-season, started in place of McGinest at left outside linebacker and responded with a sack, a forced fumble and a tackle for a loss - all in the first quarter. August 12, 200717 yr Cleveland Browns' Jerome Harrison atones for mistakes with block on return Sunday, August 12, 2007 Mary Kay Cabot - Plain Dealer Reporter Running back Jerome Harrison atoned for a big early mistake by making the key block on the game-winning touchdown at the end of Saturday night's game. Harrison came up big when he threw the money block on Chris Barclay's 88-yard kickoff return with 1:36 remaining to lift the Browns to a 16-12 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. August 12, 200717 yr Cleveland Browns beat Kansas City Chiefs, but Frye, Anderson are ordinary Competing QBs average, Quinn sits in Browns' win Sunday, August 12, 2007 Tony Grossi - Plain Dealer Reporter Neither contender for the Browns' quarterback job pro duced a touchdown in the club's first preseason game Saturday night against the Kansas City Chiefs. That's unless you count the one the Chiefs scored when Charlie Frye's backward pass for Jerome Harrison was picked up off the ground and returned 56 yards for a touchdown by backup cornerback Benny Sapp. More at cleveland.com http://www.cleveland.com
August 12, 200717 yr Opportunity wide open, Frye, Anderson miss it Sunday, August 12, 2007 Bill Livingston - Plain Dealer Columnist Charlie Frye won the toss to start the game, and the Browns chose to defer the biggest decision facing them until they find a quarterback who can actually play this game. Top draft pick Brady Quinn has to make up for lost time from his holdout, but nothing that happened Saturday night in the exhibition opener dissuaded those who think he will be starting under center by the seventh game, following the bye week in October. August 12, 200717 yr Quinn watches as Browns QBs unimpressive in 16-12 win over Chiefs 8/12/2007, 12:15 a.m. EDT By TOM WITHERS - The Associated Press CLEVELAND (AP) — The coin flipped in Charlie Frye's favor, and the rest of the night went his way, too. Frye played better than Derek Anderson in their competition to become Cleveland's starting quarterback and the Browns got a late kickoff return for a TD in a 16-12 win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday. August 14, 200717 yr Anderson likely to face Lions first Tuesday, August 14, 2007 Mary Kay Cabot - Plain Dealer Reporter Coach Romeo Crennel probably will keep the coin in his pocket this week. He said he's leaning toward starting Derek Anderson at quarterback on Saturday night against the Lions. "I've been talking about being as equal as I can in this competition, so I might let the other guy [Anderson] start," he said. "What happens this week will have somewhat of an impact on that." "You've got to have that meanness," said Brown, perhaps the NFL's greatest player ever. "I call it dog. [Dick] Butkus had it. L.T. [Lawrence Taylor] had it. That [shawne] Merriman kid has it. August 14, 200717 yr You know, I had no idea so many inches could be filled by articles about the browns on a daily basis (not criticizing you KS)
August 14, 200717 yr Haha, well I read them all so I figure I might as well post them. There are plenty more that aren't very good so I don't waste the space with them.
August 14, 200717 yr You know, I had no idea so many inches could be filled by articles about the browns on a daily basis (not criticizing you KS) in a previous thread, I statated, that KS5214 is our resident CLEVELAND sports editor! Is it not obvious?
August 15, 200717 yr Well I could talk about the Browns until I'm blue in the face. I'll just summarize my main points and everyone else can pick where to go with it: 1. Frye was clearly better then Anderson, the lateral was not his fault, Harrison gave up on that play instead of falling on it. Also, his decision to run before half instead of pass was bad, but he still was 12-15 for 122 yards with no picks. 2. Thomas looked good minus the holding calls, and you can see that once Steinbach is back, Lewis to the left will become a frequently called play. 3. Speaking of Lewis, he also looked good, had a couple of nice runs. 4. The corners looked good, Bodden had a nice pick, so did Holly. It's a little reassuring, since I'm not gonna hold my breath that Baxter comes back and contributes much of anything. 5. I hate that you can only use Visa at the stadium.. I know this has nothing to do with the game.. but I can't use my American Express or even my Mastercard debit!
