Silence is deafening.... Pettine gave Hoyer a chance to prove himself. He didn't. He kept giving the ball back to Andrew Luck in the second half. Now it should be Johnny time.

Pettine looked extremely upset yesterday in the presser, moreso than any other loss. I think the fact that he pushed all the chips to the center with Hoyer and HOyer flat out let him down was a learning experience.  It cost them the game.  On that note, shame on Pettine for not recongizing what was going on and halftime and making the change. YOu had everything you needed, unbelieveable defense, crowd noise, a lead and a QB who was sucking the energy out of the stadium.  Lead was 21-7 at one point, i think after the first Hilton TD you make the change as fire everyone up.

^ Hoyer led the team on a long drive for a touchdown right before halftime. Why would Pettine put in Manziel after the half?

the numbers speak for themselves.  31.9 rating.  he made a couple nice throws to Benjamin and Cameron, but other than that..the body of work was terrible.  It was clear that Hoyer was going to have to have an above average game to beat the colts.  He was one the path of below mediocre and was being bailed out by the defense.  Again, after Hiltson first TD, making is 21-16, i make the change, Hoyer was missing open guys all over the field and the interception in the end zone was inexcusable.

This was probably the hardest to swallow loss of the entire history of the post-1999 Browns. The game actually meant something, not only due to the fact that the Bengals and Ravens also lost but due to the Colts blowout of the Bengals earlier in the year, it would have helped us in the tiebreaker against them. Avoid either the end-zone interception or the missed field goal and we win the game. And the defense played so damn good against the #1 offense, it was tough to see them lose like that.

It seems fan support for Hoyer is pretty much over and the era of Johnny Cleveland will begin, be it next year or next week.

Cundiff has to go.

I'm done with Hoyer as the starter.  Done.  Even if he wasn't playing so bad right now and crumbling under the pressure, he just is not a good fit with Gordon.  Josh needs a QB that can zip the ball into him in stride so that he can do what he does best.  He is not Jerry Rice.  His hands are not 'elite'.  He's got a lot of work to do on route-running.  But he is as good as it gets once you get him the ball in a spot where he can make a play and Hoyer can't seem to do that.  It's like having a world-class running back with an O-Line that is best at pass-blocking.  I don't know that Johnny is the answer either, but I think the zip he puts on the ball would help.

Johnny convinced me he has the tools during that TD drive.  He can scramble in a way that makes Hoyer look like he is in slow motion, yet has much better accuracy and zip on the run than most scrambling QBs.  How many of those passes did we initially think would get knocked down or picked, but made it to a receiver.  It will take time, but barring injury or mental meltdown he's going to be a star.

I was at the game, sitting 50 yard line in the club seats.  Perfect view to watch routes and passes.  Hoyer was flat out TERRIBLE.  He's lucky he didn't have more INTs because quite a few throws went to areas where only a Colt defender was near.

It's Johnny time.  We need to see what the kid can do, because "there's always next year...."

Echo chamber here but It was a nice story while it lasted for Hoyer, but 5 horrible games in a row is more than enough to show that it's more than a slump. Time to start Manziel.

I am amazed what the D did yesterday to Indy until they became gassed (and a bum call) considering how patched together they due to injuries.

yeah that game was so pain, pain painful. and yes it sure is johnny football time at last.

too soon to look ahead? so if the browns end up around .500 they won't get fsu's winston, but maybe they can get that that oregon kid mariota, i like him. i guess we can hold off on that stuff and give manziel a chance lol!

Any truth to the rumor that Johnny was late to the game yesterday?  Sticking with Hoyer this past week might've had as much to do with Pettine thinking that Johnny still needs to grow up and earn it as it did with his confidence in Hoyer.

Had a source connected to the Browns QB decision estimate there is a 99% chance Manziel starts Sun. Maybe even 99.5%

And if Manziel plays well and the Browns win, a lot of people will be saying "what if..." I'm still okay with the decision to start Hoyer yesterday.

The sideline reporter said that he was on time, but hoyer got there a lot earlier.

Glad to see Hoyer used that time wisely...

He showed up just after 1030am which from what I understand is typical for him.  If the tema allows that, so be it.  Not sure what time they're supposed to get there for home games.

In any event, I wish everyone would stop following Johnny around and judging.  If he was playing for the Cowboys or Texans, I'm sure this wouldn't be happening.  We may end up making him hate this place.  Hopefully he takes the mentality of, "I'm going to show these people how to play football, and live like a 21 year old at the same time.  Maybe they'll shut up then!"

Team is due at the stadium 2 hours prior to kickoff, according to Pettine in his press conference.  (11 am vs Colts).

wow bengals coach calls manziel a midget. johnnyboy is getting thrown right into the fire now.

This is a kid who wasn't very heavily recruited and wasn't supposed to be very good at the college level.  He lit up what is considered to be the toughest conference and won the Heisman as a freshman.

Underestimated is nothing new for him.

It would be just as bad in Texas because a lot of Longhorn purists despise him for having the nerve to blow up huge after they passed on him.

JFF should invite Jason Acuña (aka "Wee Man") to be his guest on the sideline.

WTAM:

"Multiple sources including Fox Sports' Jay Glazer report Browns have named Johnny Manziel as starter QB for Bengals game"

Johnny Manziel named starter over Brian Hoyer for Cleveland Browns' game vs. Cincinnati Bengals

The Johnny Manziel era in Cleveland Browns football is officially under way. Will it last longer than the tenure of other Browns No. 22 picks Brady Quinn and Brandon Weeden?

Only time will tell. But coach Mike Pettine took the football out of hometown hero Brian Hoyer's hand today and placed it firmly into Johnny Football's, Northeast Ohio Media Group has confirmed.

Fox's Jay Glazer was the first to report the news that Manziel will start.

The former Heisman Trophy winner will start his first NFL game Sunday against the 8-4-1 Bengals at FirstEnergy Stadium, taking over a 7-6 Browns team that Hoyer guided to  the brink of the playoffs.

In the end, however, Hoyer -- with his job and the playoffs on the line --- lost three of his last four games, throwing one touchdown and eight interceptions in that  span.

And thus began the end of Johnny Maziel's NFL career. It was a nice run, but now you have to actually play for the Browns. We're sorry.

I can't wait to see him weep like the little b*tch he is.

Cincy is scared.  Hahahahahaha

Twitter is already running slow.

Almost as scared as we were for Brady Quinn. Given the Brown's history of awful QB draft picks (probably the only team that has been worse at that than the Bengals) I'd be surprised if he wasn't a flop. I predict Hoyer comes back in sometime in the second half.

Almost as scared as we are of your gingerbread QB.  What was his QB rating last time he faced the Browns?  I know, I know....who cares about Qb ratings when you've won as many playoff games as Dalton has.

Wow, this is like hearing two old, ugly, single maids arguing over who has had the best sex life.

When one of these teams has actually won something in my lifetime, then you can have bragging rights.

I might have a few cobwebs, but I'll take the ginger over the midget.

Yeah, because he's a whole inch taller. LOL

BTW, did you say Ginger? ;)

Oh, yeah

Why?  last time I checked the ginger and Johnny have the same amount of playoff wins. Stings, doesn't it?

You're right.  We probably should've changed who owns and operates this franchise given their awful history of picking QBs.

I also predict Hoyer comes back in the second half........ once we're up by 4 TDs.

Dan B., this is me asking you nicely to stop responding or otherwise addressing me from now on.

Manziel is 2" shorter than Dalton, not 1".

^But Johnny walks like a man with his chest out and shoulders back.  That makes a big difference in his stature compared to Ginger.

Yeah, because he's a whole inch taller. LOL

Too bad that doesn't equate to playoff wins....

I could show you that's incorrect, but it would only feed your desire to wallow in the irrelevant. See you Sunday.

Maybe instead of useless QB comparisons, we should discuss how each team played against common opponents like Pittsburgh and Indianapolis?

You could be right, depending upon which convenience store Manziel happened to be walking out of when you took his measurement.
